Background: Maintaining appropriate blood pressure during head and neck free tissue transfer surgery is important for both organ and flap perfusion. However, the use of vasopressors to treat intraoperative hypotension is controversial. The purpose of this prospective cohort study is to evaluate the impact of intraoperative vasopressors on the incidence of flap necrosis.

Purpose: We estimated the association between maternal sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and the risk of specific birth defects among live singleton births in the United States (US).
Methods: We conducted a population-based study using data from birth certificates for 14,602,822 live singleton births occurring from 2016 to 2019 in the US. We used logistic regression to estimate the associations between three maternal STDs (chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis) and the risk of four specific birth defects (gastroschisis, cleft lip with or without cleft palate, spina bifida, and hypospadias), adjusting for socio-demographic and pregnancy-related factors.

Background: Deep brain stimulation (DBS) of the subthalamic nucleus (STN) has emerged as an effective therapy for Meige syndrome (MS). However, the optimal stimulation site within STN and the most effective stimulation fiber tracts have not been investigated.
Methods: Based on the discovery cohort (n = 65), we first identified the optimal stimulation site within the STN using the sweet spot mapping method.

GABA (g-aminobutyric acid) transporter 3 (GAT3) is primarily found in glial cells and is essential for regulating GABA homeostasis in the central nervous system by mediating GABA uptake. Consequently, GAT3 has emerged as a significant therapeutic target for the treatment of epilepsy. In this study, we present the cryoelectron microscopy (cryo-EM) structures of GAT3 bound to its substrate GABA, the selective inhibitor SNAP-5114, and in the substrate-free state.

Glioma patients will inevitably develop resistance to temozolomide (TMZ) leading to tumor recurrence. By comparing genomic differences between primary and recurrent glioma patients, Thioredoxin reductase 1 (TrxR1) was identified as a crucial role in TMZ resistance. Glioma cells elevate the expression level of TXNRD1 to against TMZ-induced reactive oxygen species (ROS), thereby conferring TMZ resistance.

Antibiotic resistance (AR), driven by antibiotics as emerging pollutants, has become a critical global health threat, jeopardizing both environmental and human health. The persistence and spread of AR in aquatic ecosystems are governed by the intricate interplay between antibiotics, antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs), and antibiotic-resistant bacteria (ARB), which collectively influences its occurrence, transportation, and fate in aquatic ecosystems. However, most assessments focus primarily on antibiotics and ARGs, often relying on single-factor criteria while overlooking critical influence factors such as ARG forms, non-antibiotic chemicals, antibiotic pressure, and microbial competition.

Nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compounds (NHCs), widely present in industrial wastewater, pose significant environmental and health risks, yet their identification and characterization remain poorly understood. Herein, we developed a diagnostic fragment list comprising 20 nitrogen-containing fragments for NHCs, by integrating chemical information from Pubchem with the NIST mass spectral library. Leveraging this list, we employed a diagnostic fragment-assisted nontarget screening approach and identified 151 NHCs in iron and steel industry wastewater.

Nanoparticles bind to proteins in cells selectively and form a protein corona around them. However, the mechanisms of protein conformational changes underlying the interactions between nanoparticles and protein coronas remain poorly understood. In this study, we prepared small molecule self-assembled nanoparticles (Aloin NPs) as a research tool to investigate the allosteric mechanism of protein coronas.

Background: This systematic review aims to analyze the effectiveness of the combination of herbal medicine and corticosteroids in oral lichen planus (OLP) management. By providing an updated insight into the medicinal properties of this combined treatment approach, the review seeks to address the current gap in the understanding of its therapeutic potential for this chronic premalignant disorder.
Materials And Methods: PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, Cochrane Library, CNKI, and WanFang databases were searched to identify randomized controlled trials comparing Chinese patent medicine (CPM) with corticosteroids and corticosteroids alone in treating OLP.

Vision foundation models have demonstrated vast potential in achieving generalist medical segmentation capability, providing a versatile, task-agnostic solution through a single model. However, current generalist models involve simple pre-training on various medical data containing irrelevant information, often resulting in the negative transfer phenomenon and degenerated performance. Furthermore, the practical applicability of foundation models across diverse open-world scenarios, especially in out-of-distribution (OOD) settings, has not been extensively evaluated.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a predominant malignancy of the digestive tract globally, with primary treatment strategies including surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy. Recently, histone deacetylases (HDACs) and their inhibitors (HDACi) have emerged as promising therapeutic targets in CRC. As critical epigenetic regulators, HDACs influence gene expression and cellular processes, thereby affecting tumor initiation, progression, and immune evasion.

Purpose: Maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) patients frequently experience psychological distress, including learned helplessness(LH), which impairs self-management and adversely affects health-related quality of life. This study aimed to investigate the latent profiles of LH among MHD patients and to identify the bio-psycho-social determinants influencing these profiles.
Method: A cross-sectional survey was conducted in five hospitals in Guangdong, China, from May to July 2024, enrolling 548 MHD patients.
