This study investigated the potential associations between preexisting depression and COVID-19 vaccination, SARS-CoV-2 infection risk, and long COVID among middle-aged and older Europeans, based on the Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe (SHARE). A total of 31,115 participants were included to assess the relationship between depression and COVID-19 vaccination 11,146 to evaluate depression-related SARS-CoV-2 infection risk, and 11,142 to study the impact of depression on the occurrence of long COVID. Multivariable logistic model was performed and odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were estimated.

Natural polysaccharides have emerged as promising candidates in cancer research due to their multifaceted anticancer mechanisms and tumor-suppressive potential across diverse malignancies. In this study, we enzymatically extracted a polysaccharide, named ERPP, from and comprehensively evaluated its anti-colorectal cancer activity.

However, most avalanche photodiodes either suffer from relatively high breakdown voltage or relatively low gain, impairing the advantages of avalanche multiplication. Herein, we report the bilateral Geiger mode avalanche in two-dimensional Graphene/InSe/Cr asymmetrical Schottky junction.

Ethnophamacological Relevance: Cantharidin (CTD), a terpenoid from Mylabris beetles, has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for cancer treatment ("using toxicity to combat toxicity"), but its clinical use is limited by unclear enterotoxicity mechanisms. This study integrates omics and traditional toxicology to decode its intestinal injury mechanisms in the context of traditional applications.
Aim Of The Study: This study aimed to study the damage of CTD to the intestine and preliminarily explore its potential.
Background: Previous studies have confirmed the coordinated control of attentional processes by the frontal and parietal lobes. However, the function of the intraparietal sulcus (IPS) in the attention system remains unclear. In this study, we measured transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS)-evoked event-related potentials (ERPs) to determine the extent to which the right intraparietal sulcus (rIPS) is involved in attentional processing.

Background: The efficacy of nonpharmacological therapies for patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) has been progressively proved. However, the specific differences in effectiveness among various nonpharmacological interventions and their combinations with pharmacological interventions remain unclear, and the optimal intervention strategy has yet to be conclusively determined.
Methods: Systematic searches were conducted in PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, Cochrane, and CNKI from inception to November 6, 2024.
Sweet potato, the fifth largest food crop in China, is widely utilized for starch production. This study aimed to prepare and identify α-glucosidase inhibitory peptides from sweet potato protein and evaluate their stability, inhibitory kinetics and in vivo effects. The results indicated that alcalase was the optimal protease, the combination of heating and high hydrostatic pressure was the most effective pretreatment, and the optimal enzymatic conditions were determined.

Migratory locusts () emit two key odorants during aggregation: 4-vinylanisole (4VA), which serves as an aggregation pheromone attracting conspecifics to form swarms, and phenylacetonitrile (PAN), which acts as an aposematic signal and a precursor of a defense toxin, deterring conspecifics from cannibalism and protecting against predators. However, how locusts reconcile these two conflicting olfactory signals while aggregating is not yet understood. Our study addresses this by examining the release dynamics of the two signals, their behavioral effects, and the neural mechanisms underlying their perception.

Objective: Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is a complicated autoimmune connective tissue disorder. Endothelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EndoMT) contributes to vasculopathy and fibrosis in SSc, yet its underlying mechanism remains to be elucidated. Here, we determined the role and mechanism of chitinase 3-Like 1 (CHI3L1) in SSc EndoMT.

The prospective Neurologic Sequelae of iTTP (NeST) study evaluated the natural history of SCI (by brain MRI) during clinical remission and its association with stroke risk and cognitive impairment, measured by the NIH Toolbox Cognition Battery. SCI burden was quantified using the modified Age-Related White Matter Changes (ARWMC) score.

Wound care is a critical concern due to the rising prevalence of chronic and infected wounds, which demands improved treatment solutions. Conventional dressings often fall short in delivering effective drug release and mechanical performance, limiting their clinical utility. In this study, we present a composite hydrogel dressing incorporating berberine-loaded silk fibroin microspheres and fibers (CGFs).

However, the development of highly efficient SACs and a comprehensive understanding of their structure-activity relationships remain enormously challenging. Herein, a novel kind of Fe-based SAC featuring an asymmetric FeN-TeN coordination structure was precisely designed by introducing Te atom adjacent to the Fe active center to enhance the catalytic activity.

Materials And Methods: 96 Sprague-Dawley rats were separated into 12 groups based on their age (5 months [young] and 14 months [old]), oestrogen status (ovariectomised [OVX], non-ovariectomised [non-OVX]), and diet (hard, normal, or soft). The MCC specimens were examined using PLM to evaluate the orientation and retardation of collagen fibrils.
