Prototheca, a genus of opportunistic pathogenic microalgae, can cause protothecosis in humans and animals, manifesting as cutaneous lesions or disseminated/systemic infections. This report describes a rare case of Prototheca wickerhamii toe infection in a 78-year-old Chinese male, presenting initially as gouty arthritis. The patient, who worked in fish farming with frequent water exposure, had a history of herpes zoster and hypertension.

Objective: This multicenter study aimed to investigate resting-state brain functional alterations in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) comorbid with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), and to elucidate the underlying neural mechanisms.
Methods: A total of 139 participants were enrolled from two centers, including 48 healthy controls (HCs), 46 T2DM patients, and 45 T2DM with OSA patients. Resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) was used to assess brain function using degree centrality (DC), amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (ALFF), and seed-based functional connectivity (FC).

Glioblastoma (GBM) exhibits remarkable intra-tumoral heterogeneity, which contributes to therapeutic resistance and poor clinical outcomes. In this study, we employed integrative single-cell RNA sequencing analysis across two complementary public datasets encompassing diverse cellular populations from GBM centre and periphery regions to elucidate potential spatial molecular programmes driving tumour progression. Our analyses revealed substantial transcriptomic divergence between anatomically distinct tumour regions, with NUCB2 emerging as significantly upregulated in centre-residing neural progenitor cell-like (NPC-like) tumour cells.

Background: Endovascular treatment (EVT) of vertebrobasilar dissecting aneurysms (VBDAs) is associated with high morbidity and mortality, significantly influencing patient prognosis. This study aimed to develop and validate a nomogram for predicting 30-day outcomes in patients with unruptured VBDAs undergoing EVT.
Methods: This retrospective study included 606 patients with unruptured VBDAs who underwent EVT at 10 institutions between January 2015 and April 2025, with 491 in the training cohort and 115 in the validation cohort.

The polyunsaturated fatty acids in fish oil are prone to oxidation and have poor dispersibility, which limits their use in the food sector. In this work, oil-in-water emulsions stabilized by chitin nanocrystals (ChNC) were prepared via high-speed homogenization. Anionic carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) was assembled onto cationic ChNC-stabilized emulsion droplet surfaces via layer-by-layer self-assembly technology to construct ChNC/CMC (Ch-C) bilayer emulsions with rigid inner layer and flexible outer shell structures.

Tissue adhesives have emerged as a promising alternative to conventional sutures and staplers in the management of hemostasis, tissue defect sealing, and wound repair. However, the efficacy of current bio-adhesives in clinical practice is compromised by the limitations, including poor wet adhesion, inadequate mechanical strength, vulnerability to gastrointestinal fluids, and insufficient hemostatic performance. The misuse of nitrofuran antibiotics (NFAs) poses serious risks to food safety and human health. Thus, it is urgent to establish a rapid and sensitive method for detecting NFAs. Objective: This study aims to investigate the effects of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) on brain function in patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) using Regional Homogeneity (ReHo) combined with seed-based Functional Connectivity (FC) methods.
Materials And Methods: 46 OSA patients, 38 OSA with T2DM patients, and 34 healthy controls (HC) were prospectively recruited. Clinical data were collected from all participants, and neuropsychological testing was performed using the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), and Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS).

A copper-catalyzed denitrogenative radical cyclization of 3-aminoindazoles with -cyanoarylacrylamides has been developed, enabling the efficient synthesis of a variety of cyanoarylated quinoline-2,4(1,3)-diones in moderate to good yields at room temperature. Notably, this strategy overcomes the traditional challenge of the low reactivity of nitrile groups toward radical addition by utilizing cyanoaryl radicals generated from 3-aminoindazoles as reactive intermediates. Mechanism studies indicate that 2-cyanophenyl radicals, generated through the cleavage of two C-N bonds of 3-aminoindazoles, served as the key intermediates initiating the cyclization process.

Engineered bacteria have emerged as a promising therapeutic strategy for tumor therapy by exploiting the unique features of the tumor microenvironment (TME). In this study, we developed a low-endotoxin Escherichia coli expression system to produce a fusion protein comprising the CXCL12 with the nanobody KN035 Hypoxia and immunosuppression drive the selective colonization of engineered bacteria in tumor tissues, minimizing host toxicity. Unlike conventional PD-L1 antibodies that merely block immune checkpoints, our CXCL12-KN035 fusion protein simultaneously targets the CXCR7 receptor and PD-L1 on tumor cells, inducing receptor internalization and subsequent lysosomal degradation of PD-L1.

Haploid induction (HI) through stress-treated microspore culture has gained significant attention for over half a century, yet the molecular mechanism underlying microspore fate transition for androgenesis remains poorly understood. Here, we demonstrate that microspore-specific expression of BABY BOOM (BBM) is sufficient to induce microspore cell fate transition and in vivo androgenesis in both tobacco and rice, effectively bypassing the requirement for stress treatment. We further identify BBM-activated Androgenesis Regulator 1 (BAR1) as a novel downstream effector of BBM that promotes microspore reprogramming.

During the development of ALI/ARDS, a key pathological feature involves the disruption of the intact alveolar-capillary barrier, which is formed by alveolar epithelium, pulmonary interstitium, and microvascular endothelium.
