We conducted a field nitrogen addition experiment in a subtropical natural forest taking ammonium nitrate as nitrogen source. There were three nitrogen addition levels: 0, 20, and 80 kg N·hm·a, corresponding to the control, low nitrogen, and high nitrogen treatments, respectively. In the ninth year of treatments, we collected samples of surface soil from 0 to 15 cm to determine soil basic chemical properties, microbial community composition, acid phosphatase activity, and analyzed leaf nitrogen and phosphorus contents, leaf phosphorus fractions, and fine root biomass and phosphorus content in .

Cytosolic pH (pHc) is one of the most essential intracellular microenvironments profoundly affecting charges, conformations and therefore functions of macromolecules. It remains challenging to quantitatively measure pHc at single cell resolution in vivo and how pHc of a specific cell type dynamically responds to physiological or pathophysiological fluctuations remains elusive. Smad5 is a pHc sensor with accelerated nuclear export upon pHc alkalization and ideally the nucleocytoplasmic ratio of Smad5 would be a potential indicator of pHc.

Melanoma results in the formation of malignant tumors and is the deadliest form of skin cancer with high mortality rate. Immunotherapy for melanoma has made great breakthroughs in recent decades. However, low patient response rates and side effects due to the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment (iTME) and tumor heterogeneity limit the clinical application of melanoma immunotherapy.

The spider family Pimoidae, relict lineages sensitive to thermal fluctuations, exemplifies this climate-driven habitat transition. Here, we present the first chromosome-level genome of Pimoa clavata, a troglophilic spider endemic to Beijing's mountainous caves.

The co-discharge of brine and cooling water is widely regarded as a preferred method for desalination brine disposal. However, existing research on the effectiveness of this approach primarily relies on software simulations, with limited studies addressing its impact in real marine environments. This study conducted a field investigation to evaluate the effects of co-discharge of brine and cooling water on water quality, plankton, and macrobenthic organisms in the receiving marine ecosystem.

In Tribolium castaneum, juvenile hormone (JH) signal, through Methoprene-tolerant (Met)/Taiman (Tai) heterodimer, regulates vitellogenesis. Considering that Coleoptera is by far the largest animal taxon, whether JH pathway controls vitellogenesis remains to be clarified in other Coleopteran species. In the current paper, temporal expression determination revealed that JH signal is triggered in the young female adults in two Henosepilachna species, consistent with active oogenesis and vitellogenesis in these beetles.

This phenomenon is not restricted to animals but is also prevalent in prokaryotes, which employ quorum sensing (QS) mechanisms for communication and behavior. Despite their importance, cell-cell communication in prokaryotes has not been cataloged in detail.

Skin aging manifests as structural degradation, functional decline, and heightened disease susceptibility. Central to this process is the overactivation of the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathway triggered by reactive oxygen species (ROS). Autophagy, a lysosomal degradation mechanism essential for maintaining cellular homeostasis, demonstrates context-dependent duality in skin aging by mediating cytoprotective effects and stress-induced dysfunction.

This study aims to evaluate the effects of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy on nocturnal blood pressure in individuals with obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS), which fills the research gap. Additionally, differences in nocturnal blood pressure measurements before and after CPAP therapy were analyzed across varying disease severities.

Although commercial PEDV vaccines are available, the disease continues to plague the swine industry in China. Therefore, isolating PEDV from clinical samples is beneficial for conducting molecular epidemiological investigations, developing effective vaccines and diagnostic methods, and investigating pathogenic mechanisms.

Methods: (B), (T) and their mixtures (B7T3, B5T5 and B3T7) were ensiled with sour soup (S) and (LAB) to investigate the effects of additives on silage quality, CO2 production and bacterial communities.
Results: After 45 days of fermentation, the B3T7 treatment resulted in the lowest CO production, a relatively high lactic acid content (pH < 4.

Objective: To investigate the effect of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) on nocturnal ambulatory blood pressure monitoring results in older adults without cardiovascular or cerebrovascular diseases, and to identify factors causing fluctuations in nocturnal blood pressure in older adults with OSAS.
Methods: A total of 169 older adult OSAS patients with no history of cardiovascular or cerebrovascular diseases were enrolled. According to their severity of OSAS, the participants were divided into 4 groups, including a normal OSAS group, a mild OSAS group, a moderate OSAS group, and a severe OSAS group.
Patient-reported outcomes (PROs) are assessments based on patients' self-perception. This study aimed to explore whether WeChat-based health education is more effective than traditional health education in terms of improving PROs for hypertensive patients during a 3-month period. This prospective, single-center, single-blind randomized controlled trial was conducted from April to August 2022 at the hypertension ward of Yunnan Province Fuwai Cardiovascular Hospital.

Precise control over defects and porous structures in carbon materials is crucial for enhancing their performance in energy storage and conversion. In this study, an innovative salt template method is introduced to synthesize nitrogen-doped, defect-rich porous carbon nanosheets (ST/MS-NC-1000) using leafy zeolitic imidazolate frameworks and NaCl salt. Results reveal that crystalline NaCl acts as a structural template to guide the formation of nanosheet, while molten NaCl etches the carbon framework, significantly increasing defect density and specific surface area.
