Climatic upheavals throughout Earth's history have driven species to subterranean refugia, where stable microclimates buffer environmental extremes. The spider family Pimoidae, relict lineages sensitive to thermal fluctuations, exemplifies this climate-driven habitat transition. Here, we present the first chromosome-level genome of Pimoa clavata, a troglophilic spider endemic to Beijing's mountainous caves.

Background: Logunov & Jäger, 2015 was originally described, based on a male specimen collected from Vietnam, with the female remaining unknown.

New Information: Based on specimens collected from Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province, the female of Logunov & Jäger, 2015 is described for the first time. This species is newly recorded from China.

Background: Karsch, 1880 comprises 14 species, distributed in Asia, Africa and America. Amongst Asian species, Song & Zhu, 1992 was considered as a junior synonym of (Thorell, 1877) by Deeleman-Reinhold (2001).

New Information: The species (Song & Zhu, 1992) is resurrected from its synonymy with (Thorell, 1877).

A new species of the genus Komatsu, 1970 (Araneae, Leptonetidae) from Jilin, China.

Background: Komatsu, 1970 comprises 68 species, distributed in Japan (28), Korea (31) and southeast of China (9). This genus has not been recorded in the north-eastern part of China.

A survey of spiders (Araneae, Hersiliidae) from Xishuangbanna, Yunnan Province, China.

Background: Audouin, 1826 is the largest genus of the Hersiliidae Thorell, 1869, currently including 80 extant species that are widespread throughout most of forests of the Tropical realm. The tropical rainforest in Xishuangbanna is one of the most biodiversity-rich regions in China. However, can be regarded as being poorly represented in Xishuangbanna, with only two recorded species so far.

A trade-off in evolution: the adaptive landscape of spiders without venom glands.

Background: Venom glands play a key role in the predation and defense strategies of almost all spider groups. However, the spider family Uloboridae lacks venom glands and has evolved an adaptive strategy: they excessively wrap their prey directly with spider silk instead of paralyzing it first with toxins. This shift in survival strategy is very fascinating, but the genetic underpinnings behind it are poorly understood.

Two new species of the genus Thorell, 1887 (Araneae, Zodariidae) from China.

Background: The spider genus Thorell, 1887 contains 34 species, almost entirely limited to Indochina, India, Sri Lanka and China, with a regional distribution. Eleven species of are currently only known from China, five of them are described only from one sex.

New records of parasitic copepod (Crustacea, Siphonostomatoida, Pennellidae) found on the body surface of two cetacean species in China.

Background: Koren & Danielssen, 1877 (Crustacea, Siphonostomatoida, Pennellidae) is so far known as the largest copepod species and has only been found as a parasite on marine mammals. Previous studies on parasitic copepods in China only focused on those found on economic fishes, no records of having ever been reported before.

New Information: A Bryde's whale ( Anderson, 1879) and a pygmy sperm whale [ (Blainville, 1838)] were respectively stranded on the eastern and southern coast of China in 2021 and 2022.
