Background: Infectious disease surveillance systems face methodological limitations in early warning capabilities, particularly in integrating correlated indicators, assessing healthcare system impacts, and synthesizing diverse data streams into actionable intelligence. We aimed to develop and validate a hierarchical signal amplification algorithm generating daily risk scores for regional infectious disease assessment.
Methods: In this retrospective observational study in Chongqing, China (population 32.

What Is Already Known About This Topic?: Thunderstorm asthma (TA) is triggered by specific severe convective weather conditions and elevated airborne allergen concentrations, leading to a rapid increase in asthma cases within a short period. Three TA incidents have been previously reported in China, occurring in Shaanxi, Ningxia, and Inner Mongolia.
What Is Added By This Report?: We report the first documented thunderstorm asthma event (TAE) in Chongqing, China, and conducted a case-control study revealing that allergic rhinitis is an independent risk factor among susceptible individuals.

Background: Few studies have examined the association between Life's Essential 8 (LE8) scores and cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk in less-developed countries. In this study we aimed to assess the relationship between LE8 levels and CVD and evaluate whether LE8 modifies the association between exposure to solid cooking fuels and CVD.
Methods: A cross-sectional analysis was conducted using data extracted from the China Multi-Ethnic Cohort.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a progressively advancing immune-mediated disorder characterized by intricate pathophysiological features. Despite extensive research, the mechanisms linking various risk factors to the development of IBD remain incompletely understood. We conducted analyses within a prospective cohort of unrelated European individuals, utilizing data from the UK Biobank.

Epidemiological evidence on the association between Gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase (GGT) and lung cancer risk is limited. Meanwhile, whether inflammation can modify the association of GGT-lung cancer remains unknown. We assessed the relationship of GGT-lung cancer and modification effects of inflammation biomarkers in 412,634 participants from UK Biobank using Cox models and interactive analysis.

Objective: The objective is to examine the epidemiology and clinical features of human cases infected with H5N6 avian influenza in Sichuan Province from 2014 to 2024, and to offer guidance for the prevention and management of human infections with H5N6 avian influenza.
Methods: Epidemiological survey reports of H5N6 avian influenza cases in Sichuan Province from 2014 to 2024 were compiled, and the epidemiological context and characteristics of 16 human cases infected with H5N6 avian influenza in the province were summarized and analyzed using descriptive epidemiological methods.
Results: From 2014, when the initial human case ofH5N6 infection was documented in Sichuan Province, to 2024, there have been 16 human cases of H5N6 avian influenza in the region, resulting in 12 fatalities and a case fatality rate of 75%.

The prevalence of carcinogenic N-nitrosamines formed as byproducts during water treatment was public health of significant concern. The salt-assisted liquid-liquid microextraction (SALLME) combined with gas chromatography-tandem Q-Exactive Orbitrap mass spectrometry, employing programmed temperature vaporization-large volume injection (PTV-LVI) was developed for the determination of sixteen N-nitrosamines. The Plackett-Burman Design and Response Surface Methodology were applied to optimize the PTV-LVI parameters and sample pretreatment procedures.

Sarcopenia, a degenerative loss of skeletal muscle mass, strength, and function, poses a significant public health issue, particularly among aging populations. Cathepsins have recently emerged as key regulators of muscle metabolism and potential contributors to sarcopenia. This study employed Mendelian randomization (MR) to elucidate the causal relationships between 10 specific cathepsins and sarcopenia-related phenotypes, particularly appendicular lean mass (ALM) and handgrip strength, to identify potential therapeutic targets for sarcopenia intervention.

Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between cumulative fluoroscopy dose and eye lens radiation dose among interventional radiologists, and to develop a predictive model to enhance occupational radiation safety.
Methods: We collected data from interventional radiologists, focusing on cumulative fluoroscopy dose during procedures and corresponding eye lens doses. A quadratic polynomial regression model was developed to assess the non-linear relationship between cumulative fluoroscopy dose and eye lens dose.

In 2022, a global outbreak of mpox was anticipated, with several cases reported in non-endemic countries in early May. Given the challenge of distinguishing the mpox virus (MPXV) from other pathogens based solely on symptoms, there is an urgent need for prompt and reliable MPXV detection methods. In this study, we developed assays using recombinase-aided amplification (RAA) to identify MPXV and evaluated their applicability with clinical samples.

Whether the role of gut microbial features lies in the pathways from lifestyles to dyslipidemia remains unclear. In this cross-sectional study, we conducted a metagenome-wide association analysis and fecal metabolomic profiling in 994 adults from the China Multi-Ethnic cohort. A total of 26 microbial species were identified as mediators between lifestyle factors and risk for dyslipidemia.

To explore the structural relationship between WMSDs in the upper limbs and various risk factors in the occupational population in China, based on a large sample epidemiological survey and structural equation analysis, and to establish a structural equation model, so as to lay a foundation for the prevention and control of such diseases. The Chinese version of the Musculoskeletal Disorders Electronic Questionnaire was used to conduct a nationwide survey on the prevalence of WMSDs in the upper extremity. Six factors related to WMSDs in the upper extremity were extracted by the classification standard of adverse ergonomic factors and their source and confirmatory factor analysis, including work organization, work type, upper extremity work posture, individual factors, upper extremity fatigue and upper extremity WMSDs.

Cellular senescence may predominantly drive the progression of early subclinical injury under conditions of low-dose, long-term occupational exposure. However, previous research has largely overlooked the cellular senescence induced by hexavalent chromium [Cr(VI)]. To bridge the gap, 304 workers from a chromate facility were enrolled, and a mouse model was used to confirm the effects of Cr(VI) on cellular senescence.
