What Is Already Known About This Topic?: Thunderstorm asthma (TA) is triggered by specific severe convective weather conditions and elevated airborne allergen concentrations, leading to a rapid increase in asthma cases within a short period. Three TA incidents have been previously reported in China, occurring in Shaanxi, Ningxia, and Inner Mongolia.

What Is Added By This Report?: We report the first documented thunderstorm asthma event (TAE) in Chongqing, China, and conducted a case-control study revealing that allergic rhinitis is an independent risk factor among susceptible individuals.

January 2026

Department of Laboratory Technology and Science of Public Health, West China School of Public Health and West China Fourth Hospital, Sichuan University, Chengdu, Sichuan, 610041, China. Electronic address:

The prevalence of carcinogenic N-nitrosamines formed as byproducts during water treatment was public health of significant concern. The salt-assisted liquid-liquid microextraction (SALLME) combined with gas chromatography-tandem Q-Exactive Orbitrap mass spectrometry, employing programmed temperature vaporization-large volume injection (PTV-LVI) was developed for the determination of sixteen N-nitrosamines. The Plackett-Burman Design and Response Surface Methodology were applied to optimize the PTV-LVI parameters and sample pretreatment procedures.

Sarcopenia, a degenerative loss of skeletal muscle mass, strength, and function, poses a significant public health issue, particularly among aging populations. Cathepsins have recently emerged as key regulators of muscle metabolism and potential contributors to sarcopenia. This study employed Mendelian randomization (MR) to elucidate the causal relationships between 10 specific cathepsins and sarcopenia-related phenotypes, particularly appendicular lean mass (ALM) and handgrip strength, to identify potential therapeutic targets for sarcopenia intervention.

In 2022, a global outbreak of mpox was anticipated, with several cases reported in non-endemic countries in early May. Given the challenge of distinguishing the mpox virus (MPXV) from other pathogens based solely on symptoms, there is an urgent need for prompt and reliable MPXV detection methods. In this study, we developed assays using recombinase-aided amplification (RAA) to identify MPXV and evaluated their applicability with clinical samples.

Laboratory of Occupational Protection and Ergonomics, National Institute of Occupational Health and Poison Control, Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Beijing 100050, China.

To explore the structural relationship between WMSDs in the upper limbs and various risk factors in the occupational population in China, based on a large sample epidemiological survey and structural equation analysis, and to establish a structural equation model, so as to lay a foundation for the prevention and control of such diseases. The Chinese version of the Musculoskeletal Disorders Electronic Questionnaire was used to conduct a nationwide survey on the prevalence of WMSDs in the upper extremity. Six factors related to WMSDs in the upper extremity were extracted by the classification standard of adverse ergonomic factors and their source and confirmatory factor analysis, including work organization, work type, upper extremity work posture, individual factors, upper extremity fatigue and upper extremity WMSDs.
