Asymmetric Total Synthesis of 5,10-seco-Neoansamycin A.

Org Lett

September 2025

School of Science and Engineering, Shenzhen Key Laboratory of Innovative Drug Synthesis, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Shenzhen 518172, P. R. China.

The first asymmetric total synthesis of 5,10-seco-neoansamycin A, a 19-membered cyclic octaketide, was achieved in 20 steps (with several steps being telescoped) and 6.7% overall yield starting from the reported compound, thus leading to the assignment of its absolute configuration. This convergent synthetic approach features late-stage macrolactamization, a judicious application of an asymmetric aldol reaction.

Brucine Inhibits Gastric Cancer via Activation of Ferroptosis Through Regulating the NF-κB Signaling Pathway.

J Biochem Mol Toxicol

September 2025

Department of Pharmacy, the Second Xiangya Hospital, Central South University, Changsha, 410011, PR China.

Gastric cancer (GC) is the third leading cause of cancer mortality globally, often presenting with insidious symptoms that lead to late-stage diagnoses, underscoring the critical need for innovative diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. One such avenue is the exploration of ferroptosis, a regulated form of cell death implicated in various pathological conditions and malignancies. In this study, we demonstrate that brucine, an alkaloid derived from Strychnos nux-vomica, exerts significant antitumor effects on GC cells both in vitro and in vivo.

The brown planthopper (BPH), Nilaparvata lugens (Stål), is a typical insecticide-induced resurgence rice pest that causes severe damage to rice in Asian countries. Previous studies have shown that the fungicide Jinggangmycin (JGM), used to control rice sheath blight disease, can stimulate BPH fecundity; however, the molecular mechanism remains to be further explored. In this study, based on transcriptomic analysis, we found that the PI3K-Akt signaling pathway was significantly enriched in BPH after feeding on JGM-treated rice, where the NlPR-L and NlABD4-L genes were significantly upregulated.

CYP72A15 confers resistance against penoxsulam to Echinochloa phyllopogon.

Pestic Biochem Physiol

November 2025

Shenyang Agricultural University, College of Plant Protection, Shenyang, Liaoning 110866, PR China. Electronic address:

As the weed Echinochloa phyllopogon has rapidly developed multi- and cross-resistance to several herbicides, we aimed to determine the mechanism underlying penoxsulam resistance in weeds. There was no target mutation in the tested population, and P450 enzyme activity was significantly higher in the penoxsulam-treated resistant population, confirming that non-target-site resistance was dominant. The antioxidant enzyme activity of the resistant population was higher than that of the sensitive population following the application of the penoxsulam and cleared HO faster.

2-[F]Fluoro-2-deoxy-d-glucose ([F]FDG) is the most extensively utilized tumor imaging agent in clinical positron emission tomography (PET) applications. Nevertheless, no radiolabeled glucose derivatives for single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) imaging have achieved clinical usage comparable to that of [F]FDG. Technetium-99m is a common single-photon-emitting radionuclide used in clinical practice and has potential for the development of novel radiopharmaceuticals.

The development of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) analogs contributes to overcome its side effects and drug resistance. To explore more 5-FU analogs, the substituent effect of BO, NO, and PO on the geometric structure, electronic properties, and reactivity of 5-FU has been systematically studied by density functional theory calculations and molecular docking in this article. It is revealed that the introduced superhalogens can not only form stable covalent bonds with the pyrimidine ring, like the original F atom in 5-FU, but also pose significant effect on the geometric and electronic structures of 5-FU.

State Key Laboratory of Luminescent Materials and Devices, Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Luminescence from Molecular Aggregates, South China University of Technology, Guangzhou 510640, PR China.. Electronic address:

Near-infrared (NIR) fluorophores, characterized by emission wavelengths exceeding 650 nm, have garnered significant attention due to their diverse and advanced applications in fields such as organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), photomicrography, anti-counterfeiting, in vivo/vitro bioimaging, as well as theranostics. In this study, we report the rational design and facile synthesis of a novel NIR fluorescent molecule, AA-TPA, strategically constructed by integrating two twisted triphenylamine (TPA) electron-donating groups with a dibenzo[def,mno]chrysene-6,12-dione (AA) electron-accepting unit. The pronounced donor-acceptor interaction within the non-planar and rigid molecular architecture facilitates NIR emission with a peak at 667 nm, while preserving efficient luminescence with a photoluminescence quantum yield of 46 % in a doped film.

Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) total tau (t-tau) is considered a biomarker of neuronal degeneration alongside brain atrophy and fluid neurofilament light chain protein (NfL) in biomarker models of Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, previous studies show that CSF t-tau correlates strongly with synaptic dysfunction/degeneration biomarkers like neurogranin (Ng) and synaptosomal-associated protein 25 (SNAP25). Here, we compare the association between CSF t-tau and synaptic degeneration and axonal/neuronal degeneration biomarkers in cognitively unimpaired and impaired groups from two independent cohorts.

August 2025

Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Malignant Tumor Epigenetics and Gene Regulation, Medical Research Center, Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou 510120, P. R. China.

Sonodynamic therapy (SDT) has emerged as a promising non-invasive modality with deeper tissue penetration than photodynamic or chemodynamic therapies. However, its therapeutic efficacy remains limited due to inadequate reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation, largely attributed to tumor-intrinsic antioxidant systems and mitophagy. Existing combinations of SDT with immunotherapy are primarily additive and fail to address the mechanistic interplay between ROS suppression and immune evasion.
