Engineered nanoparticles (ENPs) accumulate in marine sediments and exhibit adverse effects on benthic organisms. However, the effect of ENPs on marine benthic food chains is largely unknown. Herein, we investigated the trophic transfer and transformation of CeO ENPs within a simulated marine benthic food chain from clamworm () to turbot (), as well as their effects on fish flesh quality.

Additionally, those with higher neuroticism may have greater emotional sensitivity towards the impact of music, as they tend to exhibit more negative and unstable emotional traits. As a result, they may be more inclined to control emotions by using music as a coping strategy.

Recent studies have shown that avian microbiota can be passed to the next generation via the eggshell and egg albumen. However, it remains unclear whether these microbial communities are regulated by nutrition and how they are associated with the host genotype.

Mitochondria-associated membranes (MAMs) coordinate apoptosis and autophagy in diabetic tubular injury. While Schisandra chinensis Mixture (SM) shows renoprotective effects, its mechanism in counteracting hyperglycemia-induced tubular cell death and fibrosis via MAMs integrity remains unclear.

Serum IFX concentrations can be correlated with the clinical prognosis of IBD. Liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) is an alternative to clinical immunoassays owing to its higher selectivity and sensitivity.

Background: Exogenous lipoid pneumonia is a rare condition caused by the aspiration of lipid-containing substances. Its diagnosis can be challenging due to non-specific respiratory symptoms and imaging findings. Complications, such as secondary infections, may exacerbate the clinical course, particularly in immunocompromised or elderly patients.

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML), a hematologic malignancy, is an important public health issue. It is a result of the abnormal proliferation of immature myeloid cells. Despite advancements in diagnostic procedures, the early identification of AML remains a significant clinical challenge, marking a distinctive niche for newer theranostic approaches to ameliorate diagnosis and treatment.

Compensating lithium (Li) ions for high-energy-density batteries is essential, as the anodes such as silicon-based materials present up to 20% Li-ion loss in the initial cycle. Current Li-ion supply molecules present side reactions with battery components and lead to undesirable gas generation due to the intrinsic electrochemical mechanism. To address this, we report the design of a nitrogen (N)-centered organic salt, lithium-benzimidazol-2-one (LiNCHO), capable of supplying Li-ions without damaging the battery chemical environment and effectively protecting the Ni-rich cathode surface.

CagA, one of the key virulence factors of Helicobacter pylori, plays a significant role in H. pylori-associated gastric cancer by actively participating in neoplastic transformation. Among CagA variants, East Asian type CagA (CagA) bearing the EPIYA-D motif exhibits a higher risk than the Western-type (CagA) with EPIYA-C motifs.

Higher resorption of the yolk sac is generally considered positive for chick development. However, it is hard to determine yolk sac absorption differences among living chicks with similar body weight for assessing chick quality.

This present study is aimed to retrospectively explore the feasibility and efficacy of 3D-printed model combined with the Ilizarov technique in the treatment of genu varum in children with hypophosphatemic rickets.
Methods: From March 2010 to July 2020, 7 hypophosphatemic rickets patients with genu varum were retrospectively analyzed in our hospital.
Unlabelled: α-Synuclein (α-syn) is an abundant monomeric protein that can aggregate into fibrils and form neuropathological inclusions in the brains of patients with synucleinopathies. New evidence suggests that the mouse-human transmission barrier of α-syn is lower than previously reported, emphasizing the need for improved biosafety procedures when working with α-syn aggregates. Histopathology of α-syn-infected brain represents a significant potential source of occupational exposure, and current methods for tissue fixation do not inactivate the ability of pathologic α-syn to seed the conversion of endogenous, monomeric α-syn into fibrils.

Background: Musculoskeletal ultrasound (MSUS) is a non-invasive and non-intrusive method for examining muscles and bones. Therefore, MSUS image analysis plays a crucial role in the assessment and early detection of musculoskeletal disorders However, due to the complexity of noise in MSUS images, analyzing and interpreting these images is a tedious and time-consuming process. Currently, ultrasound devices still rely on manual methods to analyze structural parameters such as muscle thickness, penniform angle, and fascicle length.

Immobilized laccase demonstrates significant potential for 2,4-dichlorophenol (2,4-DCP) degradation in environmental remediation applications. However, challenges persist in optimizing carrier materials for enzyme immobilization. In this study, a magnetic lignin-based nanocomposite (FeO-SL) was synthesized and further functionalized with amino acid-derived ionic liquids (AAILs).

However, the current generation pathways of ebullition CH in different types of rivers are still not fully understood. In this study, the isotope technique was used to investigate the production pathways of ebullition CH in different types of rivers through a combination of field investigation and incubation experiment in Shanghai rivers networks to explore the regulating factors of ebullition CH emission.

Infertility is a multifactorial condition that affects ~7% of the male population. The mechanism of male infertility primarily involves intrinsic and environmental factors, of which genetic defects are key for its occurrence. Sirtuin 5 (SIRT5) is primarily localized in mitochondria and associated with male reproduction.

Neurons contribute to the complex interplay of signals that mediate heart development and homeostasis. Although a limited set of studies suggest that neuronal peptides impact vertebrate heart growth, the specific contributions of these peptides to cardiomyocyte progenitor differentiation or proliferation have not been elucidated. Here we show that the neuropeptide tachykinin along with canonical Wnt signaling regulate cardiomyocyte progenitor proliferation in the chordate model .

Background: To examine the progression-free survival from disease worsening after the implementation of routine screening for psychological problems in hospitalized patients with inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs) during a long-term follow-up.
Methods: The retrospective cohort study enrolled 1265 patients with active IBDs. Their records were stratified into screening cohort (n = 827), receiving screening for psychological problems within 48 h after admission, and a 2:1 propensity score matching was utilized to match cases without screening as controls (n = 438).

Therapies targeting immune checkpoints like programmed death receptor-1 and programmed death ligand-1 have demonstrated remarkable effectiveness in combating cancer. However, a subset of patients fails to respond to these therapies, underscoring the complexity of tumor immune evasion mechanisms. Exploring innovative immune regulatory targets represents a crucial research priority in this field.

However, its effectiveness is often compromised by experimental perturbations, such as random defocusing and off-axis light coupling, which degrade image quality and hinder reliable analysis. In this study, we present a robust imaging flow cytometer based on in-silico optofluidic time-stretch imaging with the assistance of optical phase.
