Background: Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is a challenging malignancy characterized by aggressive progression and limited therapeutic efficacy. Emerging evidence implicates peroxiredoxin 3 (PRDX3), a mitochondrial peroxidase, as a critical regulator of redox homeostasis and mitochondrial integrity. Given its role in modulating cell death through mitochondrial quality control, we investigated the therapeutic potential of targeting PRDX3 in NPC.

This study reports the synthesis and characterization of an injectable nano-hydrogel composite (m@NPs-HG) based on selenium nanoparticles (Se NPs) and carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCS) nanoparticles for enhanced cancer therapy. Selenium nanoparticles were stabilized using CMCS to form copper selenide nanoparticles (CSe NPs), while doxorubicin (DOX)-loaded CMCS nanoparticles (CD NPs) were encapsulated within cancer cell membranes to generate biomimetic nanoparticles (m@NPs). Subsequently, CSe NPs and m@NPs were integrated into a hydrogel via crosslinking with CuCl, resulting in the formation of m@NPs-HG.

Introduction: Disruption of growth plate cartilage often leads to severe bone growth defects in children, necessitating novel therapeutic strategies. Following growth plate injury, an inflammatory response is rapidly initiated, resulting in the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-6 into the injured tissue, which subsequently induce and enhance osteoclast generation and differentiation. This study investigates the role of SHP2 in regulating IL-6-driven osteoclastogenesis during growth plate injury repair.

September 2025

Department of Emergency Surgery, The First Affiliated Hospital of Bengbu Medical University, No. 801 Zhihuai Road, Longzihu District, Bengbu, 233000, Anhui, China.

Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a severe inflammatory disease characterized by pancreatic acinar cell injury and oxidative stress. Ferroptosis, an iron-dependent form of cell death driven by lipid peroxidation, has been implicated in AP pathogenesis. However, the molecular mechanisms linking ferroptosis to AP remain unclear.

Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), a promising class of metallic nanomaterials with strong antibacterial properties and biomedical potential, are increasingly being used in a variety of consumer products. The widespread application of AgNPs has raised concerns about their toxicological effects, particularly their accumulation in the liver and the associated oxidative stress. However, the precise molecular mechanisms driving these effects remain unclear.

Purpose: This study aimed to comprehensively compare the dosimetric characteristics of three different radiotherapy techniques-hybrid intensity-modulated radiotherapy (hy-IMRT), tangential volumetric-modulated arc therapy (t-VMAT), and continuous volumetric-modulated arc therapy (c-VMAT)-used after breast-conserving surgery for left-sided breast cancer in the target area and organs at risk (OARs) after breast-conserving surgery for left-sided breast cancer. This evaluation aims to provide a solid basis for individualized radiotherapy planning in clinical practice.

Methods: Twenty female patients who underwent breast-conserving surgery for left-sided breast cancer were retrospectively selected.

Background: M2-like tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) promote an immunosuppressive microenvironment and contribute to tumor progression and metastasis. However, their molecular characterization and prognostic value have not been fully explored in the field of breast cancer.

Methods: Weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) was used to identify modules significantly associated with M2-like TAMs.

Quantum integration in swin transformer mitigates overfitting in breast cancer screening.

Sci Rep

August 2025

Origin Quantum Computing Technology (Hefei) Co., Ltd., Hefei, 230088, China.

To explore the potential of quantum computing in advancing transformer-based deep learning models for breast cancer screening, this study introduces the Quantum-Enhanced Swin Transformer (QEST). This model integrates a Variational Quantum Circuit (VQC) to replace the fully connected layer responsible for classification in the Swin Transformer architecture. In simulations, QEST exhibited competitive accuracy and generalization performance compared to the original Swin Transformer, while also demonstrating an effect in mitigating overfitting.

Department of General Dentistry, The Affiliated Stomatological Hospital of Nanjing Medical University, State Key Laboratory Cultivation Base of Research, Prevention and Treatment for Oral Diseases, Jiangsu Province Engineering Research Center of Stomatological Translational Medicine, Nanjing Medical

Current clinical periodontitis treatments including surgical treatment and antibacterial treatment might cause excessive immune response in the host and cannot effectively promote the regeneration of periodontal tissue. In this study, we explored irisin serving as a novel biomarker in gingival tissues from periodontitis patients and confirmed its immunoregulatory roles, including its capacity to scavenge reactive oxygen species (ROS) and suppress inflammatory responses, through activation of the P53 and PPAR-γ signaling pathways. Furthermore, we established a bioactive glass nanoparticle compound with irisin (IR-nBG) and evaluated its antioxidant and osteoimmunomodulatory properties in a ROS-rich inflammatory microenvironment.
