Chitin and chitosan, characterized by their extensive applications, abundant availability, and low cost, have been demonstrated to modulate immune responses. Mast cells (MCs) are important innate immune cells, and few studies on the regulation of MCs by chitin and chitosan were conducted. The key receptor Mas-related G protein-coupled receptor X2 (MRGPRX2), highly expressed in MCs, is involved in drug pseudo-allergic responses and several chronic diseases by mediating MC activation.

Herein, we report an efficient and general one-pot multicomponent strategy, innovatively developed for the construction of δ,γ-unsaturated β-hydroxy nitrile scaffolds. Using readily available aldehydes and ketones as starting materials and TMSCFBr as a difluorocarbene precursor, the transformation proceeds via tandem Aldol condensation, a difluorocarbene electrophilic reaction, and hydrolysis. Mechanistic studies revealed that the difluorocarbene activates the oxygen atom of the α,β-unsaturated carbonyl group through electrophilic orientation, significantly enhancing the electrophilicity of the carbonyl carbon, thereby driving the reaction to proceed with high selectivity via a 1,2-addition pathway.

The hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus (PVN) integrates neuroendocrine and autonomic signals that regulate blood pressure and metabolism. Although the renin-angiotensin system (RAS) is implicated in neurogenic hypertension and obesity, cell-type-specific expression and regulation of its components within the PVN remain poorly understood. Here, we employed single-nucleus RNA sequencing (snRNA-seq) to profile the transcriptomic landscape of the PVN in male mice under baseline conditions and in models of DOCA-salt-induced hypertension and high-fat diet (HFD)-induced obesity.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a common type of gastrointestinal malignancy, and it has a close connection with long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs). This study aims to examine the involvement of long noncoding RNA LINC00114, which targets heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein A1 (HNRNPA1) in regulating glutamine metabolism and angiogenesis in the metastasis of colorectal cancer (CRC). LINC00114 and HNRNPA1 levels are measured in CRC tissues and cells to determine their expression levels.

Investigating the proportion of depression and anxiety in patients with pulmonary nodules (PNs) and exploring the factors influencing them may help to optimize PNs management protocols and guide clinical decision-making. This study employed a cross-sectional design and included 260 patients attending the hospital's outpatient clinic. The assessment of depression and anxiety in patients with PNs was conducted using the Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD) and the Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAMA), respectively.

Mitochondrial-related nuclear genes (MNGs) have shown great importance in cancer diagnosis and prognosis, but their role in gastric cancer (GC) remains unclear. GC-related transcriptome data from the gene expression omnibus and cancer genome atlas databases were analyzed to identify differentially expressed MNGs. A prognostic risk model was constructed through univariate Cox and least absolute shrinkage and selection operator regression, validated by Kaplan-Meier (K-M) survival curve and receiver operating characteristic curve.

Corneal neovascularization (CNV) is a leading cause of vision impairment, with existing therapeutic options offering limited efficacy. This study presents L009, a novel antiangiogenic agent derived from the Kringle 5 domain of human plasminogen, specifically a heptapeptide, designed to treat CNV. In preclinical models, L009 demonstrated substantial efficacy by markedly inhibiting endothelial cell proliferation and migration, reducing vascular permeability, and maintaining ocular safety.

Background: Cardiac rehabilitation (CR) interventions for patients with coronary heart disease are increasingly adopted. However, research on the integration of digital health technologies into CR for patients with unstable angina (UA) undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) remains limited.

Objective: This study assessed the effectiveness of a multidimensional digital CR program for patients with UA undergoing PCI.

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) have gained significant attention due to their widespread distribution in the environment and potential adverse health effects. While ingestion, especially through contaminated drinking water, is considered the primary route of human exposure, recent research suggests that other pathways, such as inhalation and dermal absorption, also play a significant role. This review provides a concise overview of the toxicological impacts of both legacy and emerging PFASs, such as GenX and perfluorobutane sulfonic acid (PFBS), with a particular focus on their effects on the liver, kidneys, and immune and nervous systems, based on findings from recent in vivo, in vitro, and epidemiological studies.

Natural products are treasure troves of resources that the environment has given upon humans and are directly linked to human health and well-being. Extracting natural products from medicinal plants is the material basis for treating various diseases but the natural product content of the same medicinal plant can vary due to environmental conditions, which may exert an influence on the therapeutic outcome. Since the existing identification methods for the origin of medicinal plants are cumbersome, it is necessary to find a easy, quick, and accurate way to trace the origins of medicinal plants and ensures the quality of natural products.

Protein hydrolysates are considered as suitable reactants for the Maillard reaction due to their desirable taste characteristic and highly reactivity. However, the complexity of Maillard reaction systems involving protein hydrolysates makes it challenging to predict and control peptide taste stability. This study employed fluorescence intensity (FI) as an indicator of Maillard reaction degree to investigate its correlation with the saltiness-enhancing (SE) effect of peptides.

With the introduction of technologies such as structural optimization and error correction, the performance of the MEMS quad-mass gyroscope (QMG) has significantly improved, while noise has gradually become a critical factor limiting its performance. For ease of analysis, this paper categorizes noise into two types: noise at the signal detection end and noise at the excitation end. Firstly, a closed-loop noise model for QMG is established, and the effects of these two types of noise on the dynamic and static performance of QMG are investigated.

Immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) therapies, such as targeting programmed death-1 (PD-1) and programmed cell death protein ligand-1 (PD-L1), are often ineffective in low-immunogenic tumors, limiting their widespread use. In this study, an emulsion hydrogel is developed to encapsulate the sonosensitizer hematoporphyrin monomethyl ether (HMME), aimed at enhancing sonodynamic immunotherapy for low-immunogenic cancers. The water-in-oil emulsion hydrogel, characterized by its shear-thinning rheological properties, demonstrates excellent ultrasound (US)-triggered and lipase-triggered release, followed by sustained release.

Anthropogenic noise pollution is a significant global environmental issue that adversely affects the behavior, physiology, and auditory functions of aquatic species. However, studies on the effects of underwater noise on early developmental stages of fish remain scarce, particularly regarding the differential impacts of daytime versus nighttime noise exposure. In this study, zebrafish () embryos were exposed to control group (no additional noise), daytime noise (100-1000 Hz, 130 dB, from 08:00 to 20:00) or nighttime noise (100-1000 Hz, 130 dB, from 20:00 to 08:00) for 5 days, and their embryonic development and oxidative stress levels were analyzed.

Cellulose represents a promising renewable resource for the development of sustainable alternatives to petroleum-derived plastics, owing to its exceptional biodegradability and renewability. However, the extensive hydrogen-bonding network and ordered crystalline structure of cellulose limit its solubility and thermo-processability, posing significant challenges for large-scale production of recyclable high-performance bioplastics. In this study, we propose a robust strategy for cellulosic composite bioplastic by controlling the disruption and reformation of hydrogen bonds in ethyl cellulose (EC) nanocomposites incorporating rheologically tunable graphene (Rt-G), which can dynamically dissociate hydrogen bonds within the EC matrix.
