Key Laboratory of Opto-Electronics Information Technology (Tianjin University), Ministry of Education, School of Precision Instruments and Opto-Electronics Engineering, Tianjin University, Tianjin 300072, China.

The manipulation of polarization states is crucial for tailoring light-matter interactions and has great applications in fundamental science. May 2023

Harbin Institute of Technology, Center of Geophysics, Department of Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, Harbin 150001, China. Electronic address:

Accurate detection and characterization of defects in high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe materials are very important in assessing the structural integrity of critical structures in the nuclear industry. One specific challenge here is the presence of the viscoelastic attenuation of this material, which can lead to resolution degradation and loss of detail in ultrasound imaging. In this work, an effective ultrasonic imaging technique using the least-squares reverse time migration with preconditioned stochastic gradient descent (LSRTM-PSGD) is developed to improve image quality.

State Key Laboratory of Precision Measurement Technology and Instrument, School of Precision Instruments and Opto-electronics Engineering, Tianjin University, No. 92 Weijin Road, Tianjin, 300072, People's Republic of China.

Flexible electronic and optoelectronic devices are highly desirable for various emerging applications, such as human-computer interfaces, wearable medical electronics, flexible display, etc. Layered two-dimensional (2D) material is one of the most promising types of materials to develop flexible devices due to its atomically thin thickness, which gives it excellent flexibility and mechanical endurance. However, the 2D material devices fabricated on flexible substrate inevitably suffer from mechanical deformation, which can severely affect device performances, resulting in function degradation and even failure.

Liquid Crystal Biosensors: Principles, Structure and Applications.

Biosensors (Basel)

August 2022

School of Precision Instruments and Opto-Electronics Engineering, Tianjin University, Tianjin 300072, China.

Liquid crystals (LCs) have been widely used as sensitive elements to construct LC biosensors based on the principle that specific bonding events between biomolecules can affect the orientation of LC molecules. On the basis of the sensing interface of LC molecules, LC biosensors can be classified into three types: LC-solid interface sensing platforms, LC-aqueous interface sensing platforms, and LC-droplet interface sensing platforms. In addition, as a signal amplification method, the combination of LCs and whispering gallery mode (WGM) optical microcavities can provide higher detection sensitivity due to the extremely high quality factor and the small mode volume of the WGM optical microcavity, which enhances the interaction between the light field and biotargets.

Shandong Technology Center of Nanodevices and Integration, School of Microelectronics, Shandong University, Jinan, Shandong, China.

Surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) are propagating electromagnetic surface waves with local electric field enhancement and nondiffraction limit at optical frequencies. At terahertz (THz) frequencies, a metal line with periodic grooves can mimic the optical SPPs with the same high cut-off response, which is referred to as designer SPPs. Here, by replacing metal grooves with graphene sheets, a novel active metal-graphene hybrid SPP device achieves significant phase modulation.

The direct photocurrent detection capability of light orbital angular momentum (OAM) has recently been realized with topological Weyl semimetals, but it is limited to the near-infrared wavelength range. The extension of the direct OAM detection capability to the mid-infrared band, which is a wave band that plays an important role in a vast range of applications, has not yet been realized. This is because the photocurrent responses of most photodetectors are neither sensitive to the phase information nor efficient in the mid-infrared region.
