Integrating heavy metal concentration and slope gradient for ecological risk assessment in mountainous regions: insights from China's Dabie Mountain region.

Soil heavy metal (HM) contamination has emerged as a critical global ecological issue. This study examines the distribution and ecological risks of ten HMs (Cu, Pb, Zn, Cr, Ni, Co, Cd, As, Hg, and Mn) in the soils of the Dabie Mountain region, a hotspot for severe soil erosion in China. Results show that slope gradient influences the spatial distribution of HMs, with steep slopes (>10°) exhibiting higher Pb and Cd concentrations compared to gentle (<5°) and moderate slopes (5-10°).

HDRPS+: a new affective pictorial scale applicable to organizational contexts.

Introduction: Repeatedly capturing individuals' emotions is challenging in organizational settings, especially for low-literacy groups, and existing pictorial scales cover arousal only narrowly. Here, benthic macroinvertebrate compositions, in addition to waters and sediments, were collected from Taihu lake at 16 sampling sites and used to evaluate spatio-temporal variation in benthic macroinvertebrates. Individuals suffering from Crohn's disease are at an increased risk of developing Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI), which considerably exacerbates symptoms. Using a prospective observational clinical study combined with animal models of intestinal inflammation, we show that intestinal colonization by Veillonella, an oral commensal, promotes CDI in Crohn's disease.

In this study, citrus pectin was used to modify gliadin to prepare complex particles (GCP), and GCP roles in influencing emulsion formation by adjusting pH (3-7) and gliadin/citrus pectin ratio (1:0-1:0.1) was explored. Compared with gliadin particles, the instability of emulsion stabilized by GCP could be improved at pH 3.
