Background: The relationship between social media addiction and depressive symptoms has been extensively studied; however, the underlying mechanisms remain unexplored. This study examined the mediating roles of social appearance anxiety and body checking behaviors in this relationship. This research aims to address the gap in understanding how social media addiction influences mental health, particularly among college students.

This study examines the distribution and ecological risks of ten HMs (Cu, Pb, Zn, Cr, Ni, Co, Cd, As, Hg, and Mn) in the soils of the Dabie Mountain region, a hotspot for severe soil erosion in China. Results show that slope gradient influences the spatial distribution of HMs, with steep slopes (>10°) exhibiting higher Pb and Cd concentrations compared to gentle (<5°) and moderate slopes (5-10°).

Typically, such composites are fabricated by infiltrating the 3D graphene framework with the polymer matrix. However, the production of 3D graphene foams is limited by the challenges in preparing graphene dispersions, while 3D printing presents a significant breakthrough in the fabrication of desired 3D graphene-based structures.

Objective: This study quantifies the global burden of overweight and obesity, projects future trends, and examines associated health inequalities.
Methods: Overweight and obesity burden data were obtained from the NCD-RisC database. Trends from 1990 to 2022 were analyzed, and a Bayesian model was used to project changes for 2023-2040.
Background: The number of college students in need of treatment for depressive symptoms far outweighs the resources of most counseling centers due to rising health needs. It is necessary to establish prevention and intervention strategies for college students. This study aimed to explore the associations between self-efficacy, e-health literacy, and depressive symptoms to guide college students in adopting preventive measures and potential interventions for managing depressive symptoms.

To this end, this paper focused on exploring the morphological characteristics of trace pharmaceutically active compounds (PhACs) in sewage, and their impacts on water/PhAC selectivity of a home-made nanofiltration (NF) membrane. The experimental results demonstrated that strong solute-solute affinity interactions between trace PhACs and the coexisting components, including residual particulate matter (<0.

Introduction: Repeatedly capturing individuals' emotions is challenging in organizational settings, especially for low-literacy groups, and existing pictorial scales cover arousal only narrowly. We therefore developed the Highly Dynamic and Reusable Picture-based Scale Plus (HDRPS+), an optimized successor to HDRPS that measures valence and arousal simultaneously.
Methods: Three sub-studies were conducted.

Taihu lake is a typical eutrophic lake, which has experienced severe degradation in recent decades, understanding the spatio-temporal variation of ecological health can assist guide lake management in the future. Here, benthic macroinvertebrate compositions, in addition to waters and sediments, were collected from Taihu lake at 16 sampling sites and used to evaluate spatio-temporal variation in benthic macroinvertebrates. Further, a benthic index of biotic integrity (B-IBI) was developed to assess lake ecological health.

Crohn's disease is a severe inflammatory disorder of the intestine for which there is no cure. Individuals suffering from Crohn's disease are at an increased risk of developing Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI), which considerably exacerbates symptoms. Using a prospective observational clinical study combined with animal models of intestinal inflammation, we show that intestinal colonization by Veillonella, an oral commensal, promotes CDI in Crohn's disease.

This study investigates the prophylactic effects of manual acupuncture (manual penetrating acupuncture, MPA) versus sham acupuncture (non-penetrating acupuncture, NPA) at the same acupoints.
Methods: In this multicenter, single-blind randomized controlled trial conducted across four Chinese clinical centers (May 2020 to September 2022), 192 migraineurs without aura (International Classification of Headache Disorders 3rd edition criteria) were randomized 1:1 to 12 sessions of MPA or NPA.

Owing to the rapid advancement of wearable electronics and soft robotics, anti-swelling hydrogels have attracted considerable interest for underwater motion sensing because of their outstanding stability under aqueous conditions. Herein, this review first catalogues polysaccharide-based building blocks employed to engineer anti-swelling hydrogels, then systematically discuss structural design strategies and review recent advances in their application to motion sensing. This review first summarizes the use of natural polysaccharides-including chitosan and sodium alginate-for preparing anti-swelling hydrogels.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a prevalent endocrine metabolic disorder significantly impacting female health. While its etiology remains incompletely understood, emerging evidence highlights the gut microbiome as a key modulator, affecting not only the gut but also physiology beyond it. Many studies have been committed to exploring the role played by the gut microbiome and have discovered that gut microbiome is commonly dysregulated in PCOS patients.

The rapid industrialization in China has led to significant environmental (especially the greenhouse effect) and human impacts resulting from the industrial hazardous waste (IHW) treatment. Given that incineration is the primary method of IHW disposal, it is imperative to conduct a thorough investigation into the characteristics of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and their mitigation based on the life-cycle assessment methodology. This study analysed the carbon emissions generated by the primary disposal systems within a typical IHW treatment park in Qingdao over a 3-year period.

In end-stage osteoarthritis, total joint arthroplasty (TJA) represents the definitive therapeutic intervention. Cefuroxime, a second-generation cephalosporin, exhibits a broad spectrum of activity against both Gram-negative and Gram-positive microorganisms, making it a cornerstone of surgical antimicrobial prophylaxis (SAP) to mitigate prosthetic joint infection (PJI) risk. However, the escalating demand for revision arthroplasties has paralleled rising implant-associated infections, necessitating target-site pharmacokinetic optimization to ensure effective antibiotic exposure at the bone-implant interface.

The placenta, a vital organ bridging the fetus and mother, governs nutrient exchange. Syncytin-1, an endogenous retroviral envelope protein specifically expressed in placental trophoblasts, is diminished in preeclampsia and fetal growth restriction. This study aimed to investigate the effects of low syncytin-1 expression on placental transport of amino acids, fatty acids and cholesterol, and its implications for fetal and placental development, contributing to fetal growth restriction pathogenesis.
