Introduction: Repeatedly capturing individuals' emotions is challenging in organizational settings, especially for low-literacy groups, and existing pictorial scales cover arousal only narrowly. We therefore developed the Highly Dynamic and Reusable Picture-based Scale Plus (HDRPS+), an optimized successor to HDRPS that measures valence and arousal simultaneously.

Methods: Three sub-studies were conducted.

The rapid industrialization in China has led to significant environmental (especially the greenhouse effect) and human impacts resulting from the industrial hazardous waste (IHW) treatment. Given that incineration is the primary method of IHW disposal, it is imperative to conduct a thorough investigation into the characteristics of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and their mitigation based on the life-cycle assessment methodology. This study analysed the carbon emissions generated by the primary disposal systems within a typical IHW treatment park in Qingdao over a 3-year period.

The placenta, a vital organ bridging the fetus and mother, governs nutrient exchange. Syncytin-1, an endogenous retroviral envelope protein specifically expressed in placental trophoblasts, is diminished in preeclampsia and fetal growth restriction. This study aimed to investigate the effects of low syncytin-1 expression on placental transport of amino acids, fatty acids and cholesterol, and its implications for fetal and placental development, contributing to fetal growth restriction pathogenesis.

Trivalent arsenicals, such as arsenite [As(III)] and methylarsenite [MAs(III)], are highly toxic and commonly found in anoxic environments. Similarly, antimony (Sb), a toxic metalloid present in the environment, triggers the activation of numerous genes in microorganisms to resist, transform, and efflux it. This study focuses on the arsZ' gene from the trivalent metalloids-resistant Ensifer adhaerens strain ST2 and its role in mitigating antimonite [Sb(III)] toxicity.

Objective: Hyperlipidemia seriously impairs titanium (Ti) implant osseointegration, and endogenous therapeutic targets remain elusive. Aldehyde dehydrogenase 6 family member A1 (ALDH6A1) plays an important role in redox regulation and lipid metabolism. However, its role in osseointegration under hyperlipidemia conditions has not been thoroughly investigated.

Background: Postoperative delirium (POD) is a common complication in older patients after surgery, leading to a series of adverse outcomes. This study aims to develop and validate a prediction model for POD in older patients following major noncardiac surgery.

Methods: In this prospective, multi-centre, cohort study, a total of 972 older patients undergoing major noncardiac surgery will be enrolled from three hospitals in Jiangsu, China (n = 680 for model development and n = 292 for external validation).

This study demonstrates the generation of a tunable all-fiber Fano resonance comb by incorporating a 10° tilted fiber Bragg grating (TFBG) into an all-fiber Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI). The TFBG generates the discrete state that couples with the continuum state of the MZI to produce all-fiber Fano resonance comb spanning an 80 nm spectral range. This system exhibits precise tunability, enabling continuous transitions among asymmetric Fano line shape, symmetric electromagnetically induced transparency, and electromagnetically induced absorption line shapes.

The electrocatalytic nitrate reduction reaction (NITRR) holds great promise for producing high-value-added ammonia (NH). The development of highly efficient catalysts will be one of the key factors for achieving nitrate reduction to synthesize ammonia. In this study, three cobalt-based metal-organic frameworks (Co-MOFs) based on different ligands with varying electron-donating properties (bpta = 3,5-bis(4-pyridyl)-1,2,4-triazolyl, bpt = 2,5-bis(4-pyridyl)-1,3,4-thiadiazole, dpb = 4-di(4-pyridyl)benzene) are synthesized.

Arsenic (As) contamination in water remains a serious concern due to its high toxicity and harmful effects on human health and the environment. Herein, we successfully synthesized a novel photocatalyst (BiOBr/TiC) by inserting BiOBr nanoparticles into TiCT MXenes for the photocatalytic degradation of organic arsenic roxarsone (3-nitro-4-hydroxyphenylarsonic acid) in wastewater. BiOBr/TiC exhibited a unique morphology characterized by uniform BiOBr nanoparticles within more dispersed TiCT layers.

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of platelet distribution width (PDW) on fetal fraction (FF) of cell-free DNA (cfDNA) within non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) during pregnancy.

Methods: The study subjects were pregnant women who voluntarily underwent NIPT and had antenatal examinations at the Affiliated Suzhou Hospital of Nanjing Medical University from January 2016 to January 2021. They underwent routine blood tests before and after NIPT.

Background: Effective osseointegration is a crucial factor for the success of implant restoration, and hyperlipidemia significantly impairs osseointegration. However, the underlying in vivo mechanisms remain unclear. This study aimed to investigate the impact and molecular mechanisms of lipid droplet accumulation on osteogenesis-osteoclasis balance on titanium (Ti) implant surface.

Coulombic efficiency (CE) is a quantifiable indicator for the reversibility of lithium metal anodes in high-energy-density batteries. However, the quantitative relationship between CE and electrolyte properties has yet to be established, impeding rational electrolyte design. Herein, an interpretable model for estimating CE based on data-driven insights of electrolyte properties is proposed.

Formaldehyde (HCHO), a crucial industrial chemical, finds extensive applications across diverse sectors, including household products, commercial materials, aviation, and medical supplies. Methane (CH), as an abundant C1 resource, presents a promising feedstock for HCHO synthesis. However, the direct conversion of CH to HCHO remains challenging due to its inherent chemical inertness, characterized by low polarizability and high C-H bond dissociation energy (439 kJ mol), coupled with the high reactivity of intermediate products.

The dramatic increase in carbon dioxide emissions is a major cause of global warming and climate change, posing a serious threat to human development and profoundly affecting the global ecosystem. Currently, carbon dioxide emissions prediction studies rely heavily on a large amount of data support, and the accuracy of predictions is greatly reduced when data are scarce. In addition, the inherent uncertainty, volatility, and complexity of CO2 emission data further exacerbate the challenge of accurate prediction.
