Foramen magnum decompression with duraplasty (FMDD), a common surgery for adult Chiari malformation type I(CM-I) with a 60-70% improvement rate, lacks assessment metrics. This study applied the concept of occipitocervical dura angulation (ODA) and aimed to investigate ODA's role in evaluating long-term FMDD outcomes. The ODA normal range was measured in 230 healthy individuals.

Coulombic efficiency (CE) is a quantifiable indicator for the reversibility of lithium metal anodes in high-energy-density batteries. However, the quantitative relationship between CE and electrolyte properties has yet to be established, impeding rational electrolyte design. Herein, an interpretable model for estimating CE based on data-driven insights of electrolyte properties is proposed.

Objective: To investigate the prognostic value of F-deoxyglucose (FDG) PET/CT metabolic parameters combined with clinicopathological features for newly diagnosed diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) before treatment, and analyze the relationship between tumor metabolic volume (MTV), total lesion glycolysis (TLG) and clinicopathological features.

Methods: The clinical data of 120 patients with pathologically confirmed DLBCL were retrospectively analyzed and F-FDG PET/CT was performed 1 week before treatment. The metabolic parameters including SUVmax, SUVmean, tumor-to-blood standardized uptake value ratio (TBR), tumor-to-liver standardized uptake value ratio (TLR) were obtained.

25-Hydroxycholesterol (25HC) is a hydroxylated cholesterol with multiple antiviral activities, however, little is known about the mechanisms by which 25HC correlates antiviral ability with lipid droplet (LD) dynamic balance to ensure cholesterol homeostasis. In the present study, 25HC was applied to porcine deltacoronavirus (PDCoV)-infected LLC-PK1 (Lilly Laboratories Culture-Porcine Kidney 1) cells and piglets to explore its antiviral capacity and underlying mechanism. The results revealed that 25HC decreased free cholesterol (FC) levels but increased triglyceride (TG) levels in PDCoV-infected cells and piglets.

A new indigotin alkaloid, named talarindigotin A (), along with the analogue 5H, 6H-quinindolin-11-one () were isolated from the mangrove endophytic fungus SCNU-F0041. Their structures were assigned on the basis of NMR, HRMS, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. In the cytotoxic bioassay, compound showed great cytotoxicity against HepG2, Hela, HCT116, and Huh7 human cancer cell lines with IC values ranging from 2.

Tuning the size of intermetallic nanocrystals is challenging due to the conflicting effects of surface free energy and surface diffusion on the disorder-to-order phase transition during wet-chemistry growth. Herein, we synthesized intermetallic PdCd nanocubes with tunable sizes ranging from 8 to 15 nm by adjusting the Cd precursor concentrations using a wet-chemistry approach. This process shares a mechanism of size tuning similar to quantum dot synthesis, involving the regulation of monomer concentration determined by the precursor concentrations.

Background: Major depressive disorder (MDD) in adolescents and young adults contributes significantly to global morbidity, with inconsistent findings on brain structural changes from structural magnetic resonance imaging studies. Activation likelihood estimation (ALE) offers a method to synthesize these diverse findings and identify consistent brain anomalies.

Aim: To identify consistent brain structural changes in adolescents and young adults with MDD using ALE meta-analysis.

Nonlinear sum frequency generation (SFG) and difference frequency generation (DFG) are fundamental methods to obtain new light sources for various applications. However, most of the on-chip SFG and DFG are based on conventional resonators, lacking robustness against fabrication defects. Here, we demonstrate topologically protected SFG and DFG in a second-order topological photonic system.

Background: Adolescent major depressive disorder (MDD) is a significant mental health concern that often leads to recurrent depression in adulthood. Resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) offers unique insights into the neural mechanisms underlying this condition. However, despite previous research, the specific vulnerable brain regions affected in adolescent MDD patients have not been fully elucidated.

Article Synopsis
  • Sleep deprivation significantly impacts cognitive functions, leading to the need for a thorough investigation into consistent brain changes associated with lack of sleep.
  • The study used systematic searches of neuroimaging databases and involved 21 studies to analyze brain function changes using advanced meta-analytic methods.
  • Results showed that sleep deprivation increased gray matter in the right corpus callosum while decreasing activity in areas like the left medial frontal gyrus, highlighting specific brain regions affected by sleep loss.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the impact of body composition, measured through preoperative CT scans, on the prognosis of pancreatic cancer patients undergoing surgery.
  • Low skeletal muscle index (SMI) was found to be a significant predictor of poor overall survival and recurrence-free survival post-surgery.
  • The correlation between low SMI and worse outcomes was particularly notable in older patients, indicating that age and body composition play crucial roles in treatment prognosis.
