Objective: To investigate the efficacy and safety of transurethral water vapor thermal therapy (WVTT) using the Rezūm system for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in the real world.
Methods: A total of 181 patients with BPH were recruited from the Second Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University from August 2022 to December 2023, of whom 173 patients were treated with WVTT using the Rezūm system, while 8 patients were treated with WVTT combined with TURP. They were followed up at 1, 3, and 6 months postoperatively to assess changes in the IPSS, QoL, Qmax, IIEF-5, and the occurrence of any complications.
The relationship between maternal thyroid function and intellectual development of offspring is controversial. Iodine may be an important confounding factor. This study investigated whether maternal iodine status could affect the efficacy of levothyroxine (LT4) treatment during early pregnancy on the intellectual growth of progeny.

Purpose: In the fields of both vestibular and auditory research, reliable vestibular function tests are essential. However, unlike the auditory function tests, which use standard Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) equipment, there is no equivalent widely adopted apparatus for vestibular tests. Vestibulo-ocular reflexes (VORs) are the compensatory ocular reflexes that ensure stable vision during head motion.

However, studies on the quantitative risk assessment of BC-enhanced MSWI FA/bottom ash (BA)-coal FA-based cementitious materials (CBFM) and the synchronous immobilization mechanisms of heavy metals and anions are still limited. This study used multiple leaching methods and the RAC/OPTI model to evaluate the leaching behavior and environmental risk of MSWI FA/CBFM under various pH conditions.

However, how these dipoles determine the SHG emission dipole orientation and intensity in 3R-MoS has not been clearly resolved. Here, we accurately determine the coexistence of in-plane and out-of-plane SHG emission dipoles in few-layer 3R-MoS through radial-/azimuthal-polarization excitation SHG measurements and back focal plane (BFP) imaging combined with numerical simulations, where the SHG emission dipole orientation () in real space for 3L, 4L, 5L, and 6L 3R-MoS is determined to be ∼8°, ∼16°, ∼20°, and ∼32°, respectively.

The core of this technology refers to reactive species (mainly the reactive oxygen species and reactive nitrogen species) generated by the discharge, reacting with water content to form plasma-activated water (PAW). An improved PAW generation configuration was proposed to enhance the mass transfer progress of plasma-generated reactive species in the liquid phase.

Periodontitis, a common oral disease, is prevalent among many individuals. This study aimed to investigate the onset and progression of neuroinflammation in mice with ligature-induced periodontitis under hypobaric hypoxia and to explore the potential underlying mechanisms.

Natural products with polypharmacological properties offer promising leads for drug discovery. In this study, β-carboline-1-propionic acid, a bioactive constituent of Eurycoma longifolia Jack, served as the starting point for drug design.

However, the exact factor responsible for inducing ferroptosis in DCM has not been fully elucidated. SAP30 binding protein (SAP30BP), a member of the HCNGP family, functions as a transcription regulator.

Background: In mammals, skeletal muscle typically constitutes approximately 55% of body weight. The thermogenesis of skeletal muscle increases with increased cold stress, and skeletal muscle maintains the animal's body temperature through the heat generated by shivering. However, less attention has been paid to investigating the impact of cold stress on the fiber type makeup of skeletal muscle, especially the gastrocnemius.

Background And Aims: Vascular ageing often accompanies inflammation, contributing to the onset of local or systemic vascular diseases. Nevertheless, limited research focuses on pivotal factors triggering chronic vascular inflammation and associated pathological changes. This study aimed to investigate the role of methyltransferase-like protein 14 (METTL14) in inflammation in the pathogenesis of vascular ageing.

However, the trans-plasma membrane transport of AsA and its association with autophagy during drought stress are unclear. Here we report an AsA-induced autophagy pathway in plants, wherein plasma-membrane-located cytochrome b561 and DOMON domain (CYBDOM) proteins play positive roles.

In recent years, optical fiber testing has played a crucial role in evaluating cable performance, as well as in the deployment, operation, maintenance, fault repair, and upgrade of optical networks. The Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer (OTDR) is a fiber fault diagnostic tool recommended by standards such as the International Telecommunication Union and the International Electrotechnical Commission.

As an efficient and hygienic advanced oxidation technology, CAP demonstrates tremendous potential in fields such as biomedicine and environmental protection. Through simulations, this paper provides a detailed analysis of the interaction mechanisms between ROS and components of biological tissues and environmental toxins.

However, the neuroanatomical mechanisms linking sleep problems and ASD during early childhood remain underexplored. This retrospective observational study included 183 preschool children with ASD, grouped by sleep problem status using the Children's Sleep Habits Questionnaire (CSHQ).

Background: Hypoxia is common in solid tumors, facilitating tumor growth and treatment resistance, and is crucial for optimizing patient outcomes, but research on the mechanism of hypoxia in bladder cancer (BC) remains limited. This study aims to explore the functional role of hypoxia-related genes (HRGs) in BC.
Methods: The HRGs were obtained from GeneCards, and the hypoxia score in BC patients was evaluated by single-sample gene set enrichment analysis (ssGSEA).
Alterations in myocardial energy substrate metabolism and mitochondrial injury following myocardial infarction (MI) lead to structural and functional abnormalities of the heart. The fatty acid translocase CD36 (CD36) plays a pivotal role in regulating lipid homeostasis and mitochondrial metabolism. Here, we demonstrate that inhibiting the palmitoylation of CD36 and the resulting alteration in its subcellular localization alleviates lipid metabolism disorders and mitochondrial dysfunction in cardiomyocytes of male mice post-MI.

What is new Bangerter filters were found to show an effect on slowing down ocular axial length (AL) growth. When rapid hyperopic reduction occurs in the non-amblyopic eye combined with persistently widening interocular AL differences, Bangerter filter application represents a more preferable alternative to patching for managing anisometropic amblyopia.

Two-dimensional (2D) magnetic semiconductors have received increasing interest for spintronic applications due to their tunable magnetic properties. Using first-principles calculations, we design a series of 2D novel ferromagnetic semiconductors, including VSBr and Janus MSBrX (M = Cr/V, X = F, Cl, I), which exhibit various exotic properties. We realize an indirect-to-direct bandgap transition in CrSBrF, a giant perpendicular magnetic anisotropy in VSBrI, and a significant enhancement in both VSBrF and VSBrI.

Vitamin D (VitD) deficiency (VDD) during prenatal and early brain development may be an environmental risk factor for autism spectrum disorder (ASD). While supplementation with high-dose VitD can improve core ASD symptoms, its mechanism is unclear. In addition, VitD regulates the serotonin (5-HT) pathway, which has been shown to be closely related to ASD.
