A visible-light-catalyzed three-component cyclization reaction of 2-vinylarylamines with CFSONa and arylaldehydes is developed to build a series of 3-(2,2,2-trifluoroethyl)-3-indoles. This protocol features mild reaction conditions using an 18 W blue LED as the light source at room temperature. The desired 3-indole products can be successfully transformed into valuable tetrahydroindole scaffolds through either reduction or cross-coupling reactions.

Waste three-way catalysts (TWCs) and waste LiCoO batteries represent critical environmental challenges due to hazardous components yet contain high-value resources, and their recycling has garnered widespread attention. We propose a novel 'waste-to-waste' synergistic recycling where spent LiCoO batteries reconstruct mineral phases of waste TWCs, enabling co-recovery of platinum group metals and Li/Co without traditional oxidants. However, the environmental performance of this process still requires further analysis.

Wound healing is a complex, tightly regulated process involving a range of enzymes, growth factors, and cytokines that coordinate cellular activities essential for tissue repair and wound closure. However, in cases of extensive or severe injury, the intrinsic repair mechanisms are often insufficient, underscoring the need for advanced therapeutic strategies to accelerate healing and minimize scar formation. Electrically conductive hydrogels (ECHs), combining the advantageous properties of hydrogels with the physiological and electrochemical characteristics of conductive materials, present a safer and more convenient alternative to traditional electrode-based electrical stimulation (ES) for treating chronic and nonhealing wounds.

Building a heterogeneous structure is favorable for improving the performance of photocatalyst materials. In this study, we fabricated a ternary SrTiO@TiO/SrSO heterojunction material with a porous shell composite structure a simple one-step direct high-temperature treatment using the commercial strontium titanate and ZnSO. The effect of the synthesis temperature on the ZS-STO- products was investigated.

The potential of hafnia-based ferroelectric materials for Ferroelectric Random Access Memory (FeRAM) applications is limited by the imprint effect, which compromises readout reliability. Here, we systematically investigate the asymmetric imprint behavior in W/HfZrO/W ferroelectric capacitors, demonstrating that the imprint direction correlates directly with the ferroelectric polarization state. Notably, a pre-pulse of specific polarity can temporarily suppress the imprint effect.

Globular proteins, traditionally regarded as non-structural biomolecules due to the limited load-bearing capacity in their monomeric states, are increasingly recognized as valuable building blocks for functional-mechanical materials. Their inherent bioactivity, chemical versatility, and structural tunability enable the design of materials that combine biological functionality with tailored mechanical performance. This review highlights recent advances in engineering globular proteins-spanning natural systems (serum albumins, enzymes, milk globulins, silk sericin, and soy protein isolates) to recombinant architectures including tandem-repeat proteins-into functional-mechanical platforms.

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) induces oxidative stress that triggers a compensatory upregulation of intracellular glutathione (GSH), thereby diminishing PDT efficacy. The simultaneous generation of reactive oxygen species and depletion of GSH holds promise for amplifying oxidative damage and enhancing therapeutic outcomes yet remains a challenge. In this work, we present a Type-I supramolecular photosensitizer designed to deplete GSH through a hydrogen atom transfer mechanism while concurrently generating superoxide radicals.

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a major pathogen causing acute respiratory infections, and the RSV fusion glycoprotein (F) has been identified as a key target for developing small-molecule inhibitors. Based on our prior identification of lonafarnib as an F protein inhibitor, medicinal chemistry efforts led to the development of , which exhibits significantly enhanced potency against both laboratory and clinical RSV isolates in cellular assays. Time-of-addition and SPR assays indicate that inhibits viral entry by targeting the RSV F protein, but has farnesyltransferase-independent antiviral efficacy.

The ATPase caseinolytic protease X (ClpX), forming the ClpXP complex with caseinolytic protease P (ClpP), is essential for mitochondrial protein homeostasis. While ClpP targeting is a recognized anticancer strategy, the role of ClpX in cancer remains underexplored. In pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), elevated CLPX expression correlates with poor prognosis, suggesting its oncogenic function.

The donor/acceptor (D/A) interfaces in bulk heterojunction (BHJ) organic solar cells (OSCs) critically govern exciton dissociation and molecular diffusion, determining both efficiency and stability. Herein, we design a double-cable conjugated polymer, SC-1F, to insert into a physically-blended D/A system to optimize the interface. We have found that SC-1F spontaneously segregates to the interface through favorable miscibility and heterogeneous nucleation with the acceptor.

The metal-nitrogen chelated species, MN, have shown promise as efficient electrocatalysts for nitrate reduction, yet the symmetric arrangement of N atoms results in suboptimal adsorption affinity toward reaction substrates and intermediates. The current approaches to breaking the symmetry of MN suffer from inaccuracy and inhomogeneity because of the lack of strategies stemming from molecular design aspects. Herein, we report the construction of symmetry-broken MNO sites in coordination polymers via sequential coordination-covalent control in a one-pot reaction.

Developing artificial hosts with temperature-driven conformational switching behaviors facilitates our understanding of the temperature-dependent allostery and adaptation mechanisms in natural recognition systems. Herein, we report the design and synthesis of three pairs of water-soluble, enantiomeric binaphthalene-based tetraimidazolium macrocycles (SS/RR-1•4Cl- - SS/RR-3•4Cl-) as artificial hosts for exploring sequence-selective recognition of dinucleotides in aqueous media. Owing to the reversible rotational conformation of axially chiral binaphthyl units, SS-1•4Cl- demonstrates the conformational switching, converting from cis-conformation (SS-1) to trans-conformation (SS-1) by increasing temperature, thereby causing the recognition cavity to transition from a closed to an open state.

With the improvement of living standards, consumers' demands for color diversity and nutritional quality of tomato products have increased. Flavonoid is a considerable index of peel color and nutritional quality in tomato fruit, where flavonoid biosynthesis is controlled by various phytohormones, including brassinosteroids (BRs). However, the underlying mechanism by which BR regulates flavonoid biosynthesis is still unknown.

A visible-light-induced cascade annulation of -cyanamide alkenes with unsaturated α-halogenocarbonyls for the facile synthesis of piperidino-quinazolinone derivatives has been developed. This transformation simultaneously constructs three C-C bonds, one C-N bond, and three cyclic structures through a cascade process involving alkyl radical addition to alkene followed by three radical annulations. The reaction proceeds under mild conditions and demonstrates a high bond-forming efficiency.

Ampere-level electrocatalytic nitrate reduction to ammonia (eNRA) offers a carbon-neutral alternative to the Haber-Bosch process. However, its energy efficiency is critically hampered by the inherent conflict between the reaction and diffusion. Herein, we propose a reaction-diffusion-coupled strategy implemented on a well-tailored CuCoNiRuPt high-entropy alloy aerogel (HEAA) to simultaneously realize energy barrier homogenization and accelerate mass transport, endowing ampere-level eNRA with a high energy efficiency.
