Aramid films are potential separator candidates for high-safety lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) due to their inherent flame retardancy and outstanding thermal stability. However, both weak liquid electrolyte wettability and poor mechanical properties of aramid separators for lithium-ion batteries result in low ionic conductivity and unsatisfactory electrochemical performance for LIBs. Herein, a novel asymmetric porous composite separator composed of a relatively dense nanocellulose (CNC) layer and a porous poly(m-phenylene isophthalamide) (PMIA) supporting layer has been fabricated by using a water-induced phase conversion process.

During oxidative phosphorylation, the leaked electrons generate superoxide anions to attack the mitochondrial inner membrane and impair mitochondrial activity. Three superoxide dismutases (SODs) are secreted to degrade host superoxide anions in Verticillium dahliae. However, the roles of mitochondrial SODs (mtSODs) in superoxide anion detoxification and in virulence are unknown in this fungus.

Chestnut (Castanea mollissima Blume) is a nutritionally dense food, notably rich in starch, making it an important natural source of carbohydrates and energy for human diets. However, its high content of rapidly digestible starch (RDS) limits its use in low-glycemic-index (GI) food products. This study developed a synergistic bioprocess combining Lactobacillus plantarum fermentation and pullulanase-catalyzed debranching to enhance the nutritional and structural characteristics of chestnut powder.

A one-pot strategy was developed to fabricate a strong and ductile elastomer composed of chitin nanocrystals and poly(deep eutectic solvent) (ChNC/PDES), based on a dual-network structure formed through glycidyl methacrylate (GMA)associated modification, polymerization and crosslinking. This approach enables the integrated pretreatment, chemical modification, and nanodispersion of chitin within a lactic acid/choline chloride deep eutectic solvent (DES) system. Whereafter, the ultraviolet initiated polymerization of GMA with ChNC and DES components produced a homogeneous elastomer with a maximum tensile strength of 4.

Cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) have garnered attention for their renewable and reactive nature, yet CNC allomorph II (CNC-II) remains underexplored compared to the extensively studied CNC-I. This study bridges this gap by introducing a two-step carboxylamine condensation strategy to conjugate poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) onto CNC-II via ethylenediamine, leveraging the high topochemical reactivity of CNC-II. Utilizing bicarboxylate-capped PEG as a probe, quartz crystal microbalance with energy dissipation (QCM-D) assays revealed a significant reactivity increase of 16.

Hydrogel actuators show tremendous promise for applications in soft robots and artificial muscles. Nevertheless, developing a stretchable hydrogel actuator combining remote actuation and real-time signal feedback remains a challenge. Herein, a light-responsive hydrogel actuator with self-sensing function is fabricated by employing a localized immersion strategy to incorporate polyacrylamide (PAM) hydrogel network into semi-interpenetrating carbon nanotube/2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl (TEMPO)-oxidized cellulose nanofiber/poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (CNT/TOCN/PNIPAM) hydrogel.

The direct introduction of a bromine atom into organic molecules is valuable because of its versatility in synthetic intermediates and modular building blocks but traditionally suffers from poor selectivity and relatively complicated and/or harsh reaction conditions. We herein present the first visible-light-driven organic-dye-catalyzed bromination protocol under mild conditions with high regioselectivity. This methodology leverages rapid intramolecular radical trapping to achieve regioselective monobromination of alkenes, thus effectively suppressing competing dibromination and electrophilic bromination pathways.

Metal-organic cage-based crystalline frameworks (MCFs) are distinguished for high porosity and diverse functionality, while their applications are constrained by degradation in wet environments. Inspired by the "fight fire with fire" method in traditional Chinese medicine, trace-water-induced synthesis of armors is proposed to stabilize MCFs. Water at ppm concentration is enriched on the hydrophilic surface of MCFs, and then polymerizes with diisocyanate under the catalysis of MCFs to form hydrophobic shells.

On high-risk construction sites, frontline workers are constantly exposed to dual channels of safety communication: supervisory safety communication (SSC) and coworker safety communication (CSC). While existing research has emphasized the general importance of safety communication in promoting safety performance, the differentiated effects and psychological mechanisms of SSC and CSC remain underexplored. To address this gap, this study aims to adopt a Conservation of Resources (COR) theory framework to examine how SSC and CSC influence construction workers' safety behavior (SB) through psychological mechanisms, and how these effects vary under different levels of work pressure (WP).

This study explores the role of China's Standards of English Language Ability (CSE) descriptors as metacognitive support in promoting translation learners' metacognitive strategy use and translation performance. Forty students from two parallel classes participated, with the experimental group ( = 20) provided with CSE metacognitive descriptors during the translation course while the control group ( = 20) was not. Adopting a pretest-posttest design, qualitative analysis of students' translation processes and products were conducted to investigate students' use of metacognitive strategies.

In response to the urgent need for highly efficient adsorbents for natural flavonoid compounds, this study proposes a novel layered porous aerogel (TOCNS@CS) based on a synergistic hydrogen bonding/electrostatic interaction mechanism. Through a green aqueous sol-gel method, TEMPO-oxidized cellulose nanocrystals (TOCNS) were cross-linked with chitosan (CS), and combined with freeze-drying technology to construct a lightweight, recyclable adsorbent material. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations revealed the synergistic adsorption pathways of carboxyl (-COOH) and amino (-NH₂) groups, enabling ultra-high selectivity in the capture of flavonoid compounds.

The annulation reaction of β-methyl enaminones with alkynones leading to the synthesis of methylene-functionalized 1,2-dihydropyridines (1,2-DHPs) has been realized. In the presence of only CsCO, 1,2-DHPs have been synthesized with a broad scope and generally high efficiency via the novel transformation of the γ-C(sp)-H bond in enaminones. In addition, the application of the method has been demonstrated by the one-step transformation of the 1,2-DHP products into fused tricyclic scaffolds featuring an indole-pyridine hybrid via dual C-H activation.

The analysis of carbon dynamics in old-growth forests helps us understand forest conservation, restoration, and regional carbon sequestration. There is still controversy over whether old-growth forests are carbon sources or sinks. Studying the carbon storage and dynamics of old-growth forests is of great significance for evaluating their carbon source and sink functions, as well as quantifying forest carbon fixation at the regional scale.

To address the vulnerability of electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials to accidental fires, we develop sustainable biocarbon/cellulose composites with integrated EMI shielding and flame-retardant capabilities. In this study, a rationally designed 2D/2D composite from N-doped biochar (NC) and S-doped graphitic carbon nitride (CNS) was developed for efficient peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation toward tetracycline (TC) degradation. Peanut shell-derived NC produced via urea treatment showed both excellent conductivity and an advantageous 2D structural configuration. The strategic incorporation of NC within the CNS matrix to engineer 2D/2D architectures significantly enhances interfacial contact while establishing efficient electron transport pathways, thereby optimizing charge carrier dynamics through improved mobility and separation efficiency.
