Bats belong to the order Chiroptera, which represents the second most diverse order among mammals. Bats provide critical ecosystem services through mosquito population control, suppression of agricultural arthropod pests, pollination facilitation, and seed dispersal, while also contributing to human health preservation and economic well-being. Moreover, they have an essential function in the ecosystem of the Earth.

Objective: To evaluate the safety and efficacy of Bonebridge bone conduction implant (BCI) 602 implantation in syndromic and non-syndromic patients with bilateral microtia and aural atresia (AA).
Methods: This retrospective study included 15 patients (3 syndromic, 12 non-syndromic) with bilateral microtia and AA who underwent BCI 602 implantation at a tertiary medical center between January 2022 and June 2024. Intraoperative and postoperative complications were recorded, with a minimum follow-up of six months.
As an emerging platform gaining significant attention from the biomedical community, multiplexed fluorescent imaging from imaging flow cytometry enables simultaneous detection of numerous biological targets within a single cell. Due to the spectral overlap, signals from one fluorophore can bleed into other detection channels, leading to spillover artifacts, which cause erroneous results and false discoveries. Existing color compensation algorithms use special samples to calibrate the fluorophores individually, a time-consuming and laborious process that is cumbersome and hard to scale.

This study presents a novel distance-based Minimum Span Clustering (MSClustering) method to cluster 311 IBV strains, with a comparison of its results to the established IBV classification. Phylogenetic network and recombination analyses were employed to investigate IBV evolutionary relationships and transmission pathways.

Objective: Despite certain studies indicating hearing impairments in individuals with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), the correlation between PCOS and sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) remains inconclusive. This study aimed to investigate the association between PCOS and SNHL.
Data Sources: A systematic literature search was conducted using PubMed, MEDLINE, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Library from inception to June 24, 2024.

This study aimed to evaluate the effects of a media literacy education intervention on adolescents' responses to digital marketing of weight-control products, focusing on media literacy, persuasion resistance efficacy, and purchase intention. Using a quasi-experimental design, the study involved 326 11th-grade students from a municipal high school in Kaohsiung City, Taiwan, with 189 students in the intervention group and 137 in the comparison group. Conducted in 2023, the intervention group participated in baseline and follow-up assessments and attended four 50 min media literacy sessions, while the comparison group completed only baseline and follow-up assessments with standard instruction.

This study investigates the evolutionary patterns of 350 CoVs using four structural proteins (S, E, M, and N) and introduces a consensus methodology to construct a comprehensive phylogenomic network. Our clustering of CoVs into 4 genera is consistent with the current CoV classification.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) play an important role in regulating gastrointestinal homeostasis. However, the mechanism of miRNA-mediated regulation of EGCs in intestinal dysmotility remains unclear.

Poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (polyHEMA) hydrogels are commonly used in biomaterials such as contact lenses. However, water evaporation from these hydrogels can cause discomfort to wearers, and the bulk polymerization method used to synthesize them often results in heterogeneous microstructures, reducing their optical properties and elasticity. In this study, we synthesized polyHEMA gels using a deep eutectic solvent (DES) instead of water and compared their properties to traditional hydrogels.

A total of 3121 high-school students recruited from 36 schools in Taiwan completed a self-administered questionnaire during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2022. The results indicate that 19% of these adolescents consumed non-alcoholic beer and 28% consumed alcohol in the past year.

Background: Excision repair cross-complementing group 1 () was considered a potential candidate gene for ischemic stroke, and its polymorphisms might be associated with the susceptibility to ischemic stroke.
Methods: A total of 513 patients with ischemic stroke and 550 control subjects were recruited. The expression levels of messenger RNA (mRNA) in peripheral blood mononuclear cells and its protein in plasma were detected by quantitative real-time PCR () and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (), respectively.

(dandelion) is often used in traditional Chinese medicine for the treatment of cancer; however, the downstream regulatory genes and signaling pathways mediating its effects on breast cancer remain unclear. The present study aimed to explore the effects of luteolin, the main biologically active compound of , on gene expression profiles in MDA-MB-231 and MCF-7 breast cancer cells. The results revealed that luteolin effectively inhibited the proliferation and motility of the MDA-MB-231 and MCF-7 cells.

Thus, we performed this work to delineate the mechanistic actions of APE1/IL-6 signalling in Erlotinib resistance of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
Methods: We selected human NSCLC cell lines HCC827 and PC9 to establish Erlotinib-resistant HCC827R and PC9R cells.
SOX2 is related to drug resistance in many types of cancer, including lung cancer. Herein, we investigated the role of SOX2 and its regulatory signaling in cisplatin-treated non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The effects of SOX2 on cell viability, proliferation, and apoptosis were evaluated in vitro.

This study developed a tannic acid (TA)-supplemented 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate-co-sulfobetaine methacrylate (HEMA-co-SBMA) nanocomposite hydrogel with mineralization and antibacterial functions. Initially, hybrid hydrogels were synthesized by incorporating SBMA into the HEMA network and the influence of SBMA on the chemical structure, water content, mechanical properties, and antibacterial characteristics of the hybrid HEMA/SBMA hydrogels was examined. Then, nanoclay (Laponite XLG) was introduced into the hybrid HEMA/SBMA hydrogels and the effects evaluated of the nanoclay on the chemical structure, water content, and mechanical properties of these supplemented hydrogels.
