Background: As a common postoperative neurological complication, postoperative delirium (POD) can lead to poor postoperative recovery in patients, prolonged hospitalization, and even increased mortality. However, POD's mechanism remains undefined and there are no reliable molecular markers of POD to date. The present work examined the associations of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) sTREM2 with CSF POD biomarkers, and investigated whether the effects of CSF sTREM2 on POD were modulated by the core pathological indexes of POD (Aβ42, tau, and ptau).

September 2025

State Key Laboratory of Fine Chemicals, Frontiers Science Center for Smart Materials Oriented Chemical Engineering, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Institute of Chemical Process Systems Engineering, School of Chemical Engineering, Dalian University of Technology, Dalian 116024, China.

Organometallic catalysis lies at the heart of numerous industrial processes that produce bulk and fine chemicals. The search for transition states and screening for organic ligands are vital in designing highly active organometallic catalysts with efficient reaction kinetics. However, identifying accurate transition states necessitates computationally intensive quantum chemistry calculations.

Sonazoid, a combined blood pool and Kupffer-cell agent, can be specifically phagocytosed by Kupffer cells in the liver, allowing lesion detection and characterization of focal liver lesions (FLLs) at the post-vascular phase apart from the vascular phase which is similar to that of other second-generation US contrast agents. Sonazoid CEUS is currently approved for use in some Asian countries. With the increasing use of Sonazoid CEUS for FLLs in clinical practice, developing consensus or guidelines to help standardize its use is required.

Background: Patients with T1 colorectal cancer (CRC) often show poor adherence to guideline-recommended treatment strategies after endoscopic resection. To address this challenge and improve clinical decision-making, this study aims to compare the accuracy of surgical management recommendations between large language models (LLMs) and clinicians.

Methods: This retrospective study enrolled 202 patients with T1 CRC who underwent endoscopic resection at three hospitals.

Comparison of short- and long-term outcomes between transcatheter and surgical aortic valve replacement for bicuspid aortic valve stenosis: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Int J Surg

September 2025

Department of Cardiovascular Surgery, The Affiliated Hospital, Southwest Medical University, Metabolic Vascular Diseases Key Laboratory of Sichuan Province, Key Laboratory of Cardiovascular Remodeling and Dysfunction, Luzhou, Sichuan, PR China.

Objective: This meta-analysis aimed to compare the perioperative safety and efficacy of transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) versus surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) in bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) stenosis.

Methods: We systematically analyzed studies from PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase, and CNKI comparing TAVR and SAVR in BAV stenosis. Outcomes included postoperative mortality, complications, all-cause survival, and freedom from stroke.

The impact of surgeons' visual angle misperception on acetabular cup positioning accuracy: a retrospective multicentre cohort study.

Int J Surg

September 2025

Shanghai Key Laboratory of Orthopaedic Implants, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, Shanghai, People's Republic of China.

Background: Precise acetabular cup placement in total hip arthroplasty (THA) heavily relies on surgeons' visual judgment of angles. However, whether inherent visual angle misperception among surgeons affects surgical outcomes remains unclear. This study is the first to reveal that surgeons universally exhibit visual angle misperception, a key factor causing the cup implant positioning deviations in THA.

Causes of Death After Surgery Among Cancer Patients: A Population-based Cohort Study.

Int J Surg

September 2025

State Key Laboratory of Oncology in South China, Guangdong Key Laboratory of Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma Diagnosis and Therapy, Guangdong Provincial Clinical Research Center for Cancer, Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center, Guangzhou, China.

Introduction: Recent advancements in surgical techniques and perioperative care have improved cancer survival rates, yet postoperative comorbidity and mortality remain a critical concern. Despite progress in cancer control, systematic analyses of long-term mortality trends and competing risks in surgery-intervened cancer populations are lacking. This study aimed to quantify temporal patterns of postoperative mortality causes across 21 solid cancers and identify dominant non-cancer risk factors to inform survivorship care strategies.

Telerobotic surgery: a comprehensive two-decade evolution and the integration of emerging technologies.

Int J Surg

September 2025

Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery, Xiang'an Hospital of Xiamen University, School of Medicine, Xiamen University, Xiamen, People's Republic of China.

Telerobotic surgery has undergone remarkable advances over the past two decades, driven by the integration of sophisticated robotic platforms and modern communication technologies, thereby alleviating many constraints of conventional surgical procedures. Building upon previous studies that focused on individual specialties or specific innovations, this review provides a comprehensive and integrated perspective by tracing the evolution of the field and highlighting applications in gastroenterology, urology, neurology, and cardiology. Landmark achievements include the 2001 transatlantic remote cholecystectomy and the introduction of next-generation platforms such as the Hinotori surgical robot, enabling low-latency remote interventions.

Blackcurrant is rich in polyphenolic substances with corresponding antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Therefore, based on the identification of typical functional components of blackcurrant polyphenols (BCP), the present study investigated the therapeutic effects of BCP on alcoholic liver disease (ALD) by modulating fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21) in both an HepG2 cell model and an C57BL/6J mouse model of acute alcoholism. In total, 892 polyphenols and 45 anthocyanins were identified in blackcurrant.

Background: Water hardness, which refers to the level of dissolved calcium and magnesium salts, is of significant public health concern due to its potential impact on health. The association between water hardness and digestive diseases remains underexplored, with limited evidence from small-scale clinical studies. Given the rising prevalence of digestive disorders worldwide, large-scale cohort studies are needed to address this gap in the literature.

Inverted quantum dot light-emitting diodes (QLEDs) show great promise for next-generation displays due to their compatibility with integrated circuit architectures. However, their development has been hindered by inefficient exciton utilization and charge transport imbalance. Here, we present a strategy for regulating charge-exciton dynamics through the rational design of a multifunctional hole transport layer (HTL), incorporating polyethylenimine ethoxylated (PEIE) as a protective interlayer in fully-solution-processed inverted red QLEDs.
