Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a major contributor to cardiovascular diseases (CVD), the leading cause of death globally. HCM can precipitate heart failure (HF) by causing the cardiac tissue to weaken and stretch, thereby impairing its pumping efficiency. Moreover, HCM increases the risk of atrial fibrillation, which in turn elevates the likelihood of thrombus formation and stroke.

Objective: To explore the correlation between chromosome 8 open reading frame 76 (C8orf76) and cyclin-dependent kinase 4 (CDK4) and the potential predictive effect of C8orf76 and CDK4 on the prognosis of colorectal cancer (CRC).
Methods: We constructed a protein-protein interaction network of C8orf76-related genes and analyzed the prognostic signatures of C8orf76 and CDK4. Clinicopathological features of C8orf76 and CDK4 were visualized using a nomogram.

Objective: Humans are exposed to complex mixtures of environmental chemicals and other factors that can affect their health. Analysis of these mixture exposures presents several key challenges for environmental epidemiology and risk assessment, including high dimensionality, correlated exposure, and subtle individual effects.
Methods: We proposed a novel statistical approach, the generalized functional linear model (GFLM), to analyze the health effects of exposure mixtures.

Objective: This study aimed to reexplore minimum iodine excretion and to build a dietary iodine recommendation for Chinese adults using the obligatory iodine loss hypothesis.
Methods: Data from 171 Chinese adults (19-21 years old) were collected and analyzed based on three balance studies in Shenzhen, Yinchuan, and Changzhi. The single exponential equation was accordingly used to simulate the trajectory of 24 h urinary iodine excretion as the low iodine experimental diets offered (iodine intake: 11-26 μg/day) and to further deduce the dietary reference intakes (DRIs) for iodine, including estimated average requirement (EAR) and recommended nutrient intake (RNI).

Objective: To identify the key features of facial and tongue images associated with anemia in female populations, establish anemia risk-screening models, and evaluate their performance.
Methods: A total of 533 female participants (anemic and healthy) were recruited from Shuguang Hospital. Facial and tongue images were collected using the TFDA-1 tongue and face diagnosis instrument.

Objective: To investigate the association between long-term glycemic control and cerebral infarction risk in patients with diabetes through a large-scale cohort study.
Methods: This prospective, community-based cohort study included 12,054 patients with diabetes. From 2006 to 2012, 38,272 fasting blood glucose (FBG) measurements were obtained from these participants.

Objective: Lipid oxidation is involved in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis and may be contribute to the development of Ischemic stroke (IS). However, the lipid profiles associated with IS have been poorly studied. We conducted a pilot study to identify potential IS-related lipid molecules and pathways using lipidomic profiling.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) and their risk factors are exerting an increasingly significant impact on public health, and the incidence rate of CVD continues to rise. This article provides an interpretation of essentials from the newly published Annual Report on Cardiovascular Health and Diseases in China (2024), aiming to offer scientific evidence for CVD prevention, treatment, and the formulation of relevant policies.

The synthesis of tirzepatide relies heavily on solid phase peptide synthesis (SPPS), a process that is both costly and time-consuming. In this paper, a novel soluble liquid-phase assisted (LPPS) strategy for the efficient synthesis of tirzepatide is presented. The efficacy of the method is based on the distinct solubility properties of the soluble tag, which enables high yield synthesis while significantly reducing wastage of amino acids and solvents.

Unlabelled: Cholesterol 25-hydroxylase (CH25H), an interferon-stimulated gene (ISG), has been implicated in broad-spectrum antiviral immunity. Here, we identify CH25H as a potent suppressor of hepatitis B virus (HBV) replication that significantly outperforms IFN-α in reducing HBV DNA, pregenomic RNA (pgRNA), HBsAg, and HBeAg, without inducing cytotoxicity. However, CH25H is weakly expressed in hepatocytes and only modestly induced by type I interferon.

Human-associated metagenomic data often contain human nucleic acid information, which can affect the accuracy of microbial classification or raise ethical concerns. These reads are typically removed through alignment to the human genome using various metagenomic mapping tools or human reference genomes, followed by filtration before metagenomic analysis. In this study, we conducted a comprehensive analysis to identify the optimal combination of alignment software and human reference genomes using benchmarking data.

The study analyzed pregnancy outcomes among 498 women living with HIV in East Asia. We found 15% had pregnancies postdiagnosis, with 57% resulting in live births. Older age at antiretroviral therapy initiation and higher pre-antiretroviral therapy viral loads were negatively associated with pregnancy.
