Partial reprogramming (pulsed expression of reprogramming transcription factors) ameliorates multiple tissue functions in aged mice; however, its impact on peripheral nerve regeneration remains largely unexplored. In this study, the temporal dynamics of Schwann cells following sciatic nerve injury in young and aged rats are systematically examined using single-cell transcriptomics to identify a Runx2 cell population highly enriched with stress granules as transitional homeostatic cells during Schwann cell differentiation. It is found that pathological accumulation of this cluster during axonal regeneration constitutes a critical contributing factor to impaired neural repair in aging.

The skin, a vital barrier against environmental damage, plays a crucial role in maintaining organismal homeostasis. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying skin wound repair remain incompletely understood, with microRNA regulation potentially serving as a key regulatory component. Utilizing the amphibian-derived cyclic peptide Cy as a molecular probe, we identified the miR-181d-5p/Ikbkg/NF-κB axis as significantly associated with wound healing through small RNA sequencing of early-stage skin injury.

Background: Houge-Janssens syndrome type 2 (HJS2, OMIM 616362) is a rare neurodevelopmental disorder caused by pathogenic variants in PPP2R1A, typically characterized postnatally by hypotonia, developmental delay, intellectual disability, and distinctive craniofacial features.

Methods: We describe a 28-year-old pregnant woman referred for increased nuchal translucency (4.4 mm) and high risk on first trimester screening.

GATAs, a type of zinc finger protein transcription factors, can bind to DNA regulatory regions to control the expression of target genes, thereby affecting plant growth and development under normal conditions or environmental stress. However, the gene family has not been identified in sweet potato. In this study, a total of 35, 33, 34, 39, 63, and 56 genes were identified in sweet potato, , , , , and , respectively.

The preparation of plant proteins generally involves three independent steps, which is time-consuming. Here, we integrated these three steps into one consecutive process (one-step preparation), which involved alkali extraction, membrane purification, and ultrasound modification. The obtained walnut protein was evaluated in terms of self-assembled structure, interfacial behaviors, and emulsifying properties.

Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is a common form of esophageal cancer with a poor prognosis and limited treatment options. Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), an overexpressed oncogenic gene in all ESCC patients, is an attractive target for developing therapies against ESCC. There is an extremely urgent need to develop immunotherapy tools targeting EGFR for the treatment of ESCC.

Purpose: As microwave ablation (MWA) becomes an increasingly popular treatment for gynecological diseases, complications such as surgical site infections (SSIs) have emerged as critical concerns, particularly in high-risk patient populations. Identifying independent risk factors for SSIs is essential to implement effective preventive measures and enhance patient outcomes.

Methods: This retrospective study included women aged 18-55 with a diagnosis of uterine myoma or adenomyosis who underwent MWA at the First Affiliated Hospital of the University of Science and Technology of China between December 2020 and November 2023.

Unlabelled: The persistent threat posed by SARS-CoV-2-related coronaviruses (SC2r-CoVs) in wildlife highlights the risk of zoonotic transmission. Cross-species infectivity is predominantly determined by spike (S) character and S-mediated cell entry. In this study, we systematically investigated BANAL-52 and BANAL-103, which exhibit the closest genetic proximity to SARS-CoV-2, focusing on their spike structures and functional characteristics.

Visnagin (VNG), a furanochromone, is a major active component of the plant (L.) Lam often used for the preparation of tea products. This study aims to comprehensively investigate the mechanism of VNG-mediated CYP2A6 enzyme inactivation and the effects of VNG on the pharmacokinetics of the antitumor drug tegafur.

Background: Clinical nursing information systems have certain safety vulnerabilities in the complex interactions of the healthcare environment. Near-misses refer to patient safety incidents that have the potential to cause harm but do not result in adverse outcomes, serving as frontline sentinels for identifying risks. The aim of this study was to assess the current status of near misses in clinical nursing information system tasks and the factors that influence them, to provide insights for improving patient safety and enhancing care management.

Background: Individuals with inactive pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) lesions were found to be high-risk populations for active PTB development. This retrospective study evaluated the association between different types of inactive PTB lesions and the development of active PTB aiming to provide epidemiological evidence for developing precise intervention strategies.

Methods: Based on a population-based PTB active-case-finding project conducted on the elderly, 154 028 subjects who had participated in the 2020 baseline survey were included in the current analysis.

Genetic mutations in the TMEM53 gene have been linked to Craniotubular Dysplasia, Ikegawa Type (CTDI). To elucidate the etiology in a consanguineous family exhibiting the typical clinical phenotype of CTDI, trio whole exome sequencing (Trio-WES) was conducted, and a homozygous missense variant in the TMEM53 gene (NM_024587.4: c.

The widespread use of sunscreens has contaminated aquatic environments with UV filters like oxybenzone (BP-3), which act as endocrine disruptors in aquatic organisms and exhibit enhanced toxicity under UV radiation. This study employed a multi-omics approach integrating responses from genes to whole organisms to investigate UVB-potentiated toxicity of BP-3 in embryos of the marine fish Mugilogobius chulae. Results demonstrated that UVB significantly amplified BP-3 toxicity, reducing LC from 5674 μg L⁻¹ to 3653 μg L⁻¹ and impairing key developmental endpoints: spontaneous movement, heart rate, and body length.

The transformative trajectory of urban development in the contemporary era has engendered a substantial escalation in construction waste generation, particularly in China, where it constitutes approximately 40% of the total solid waste stream. Traditional landfill disposal methodologies pose formidable ecological challenges, encompassing soil contamination, groundwater pollution, and significant greenhouse gas emissions. Furthermore, the unsustainable exploitation of natural sandstone resources undermines energy security and disrupts ecological balance.

1,2,4-Thiadiazoles, an important five-membered heterocyclic ring containing nitrogen and sulfur, are widely present in various functional molecules. Hence, a facile electrochemical three-component reaction of isocyanides, elemental sulfur, and amidines is reported for the construction of 1,2,4-thiadiazoles. A series of 5-amino-1,2,4-thiadiazoles are prepared in a simple undivided cell at room temperature with good functional group tolerance and high atom economy.

8-Epidiosbulbin E acetate (EEA), a furan-containing diterpenoid lactone and key component of Dioscorea bulbifera L., has been found to induce notable liver injury in mice through CYP3A-mediated metabolic activation to a cis-enedial reactive metabolite. EEA exposure at 25, 50, 100, or 200 µM triggered apoptosis in cultured mouse primary hepatocytes, evidenced by alterations in mitochondrial and endoplasmic reticulum (ER) pathway protein levels.

Bavachin (BVC), a flavonoid, is found in Psoraleae fructus (PF) which has been reported to induce various adverse effects, particularly hepatotoxicity, such as increases of serum alanine transaminase (ALT) and aspartate transaminase (AST) in mice given BVC. However, the mechanisms underlying its hepatotoxicity remain unclear. During the incubation of mouse microsomes with BVC in the presence of glutathione (GSH) or N-acetylcysteine (NAC), one oxidative metabolite (M1), one GSH conjugate (M2), and one NAC conjugate (M3) were observed.
