To understand the regulatory mechanism of Janus kinase/Signal Transducers and Activators of Transcription (JAK/STAT) signaling pathway on the immune system of the Pacific white shrimp, Litopenaeus vannamei, RNA interference technique was used to investigate the effects of JAK/STAT signaling pathway on the immune response of hemocyte in Litopenaeus vannamei stimulated by lipopolysaccharide (LPS). The results showed that 1) after 6 h of LPS stimulation, the expression levels of immune genes in hemocyte were significantly up-regulated (P < 0.05), the immune defense ability (hemocyte number, phagocytosis rate, hemagglutination activity, bacteriolytic activity, antibacterial activity, prophenoloxidase system activity) and the hemocyte antioxidant ability were significantly higher than the control group, especially at 12 h.

A three-component reaction of alkynes, arylzinc chlorides, and iodomethanes was found to proceed in the presence of a rhodium catalyst to give high yields of trisubstituted/tetrasubstituted alkenes. The usual arylzinc chlorides only gave trisubstituted alkenes, generated through a migratory carbozincation-cross-coupling sequence, where 1,4-Rh migration from an alkenyl carbon to an aryl carbon occurred. In contrast, 5-membered heteroarylzinc chlorides only gave the tetrasubstituted alkenes via a carborhodation-cross-coupling pathway without 1,4-migration.

The fabrication of heterostructures has inspired extensive interest in promoting the performance of solar cells or solar fuel production, but it is still challenging for nitrides to prepare structurally ordered heterostructures. Herein, one nickel nitride-based heterostructure composed of 1D Ni Mo N nanorods and 0D Ni N nanoparticles (denoted as NiMoN/NiN) is reported to exhibit significantly promoted hydrogen evolution reaction performance in both alkaline and neutral media. In particular, the optimal overpotential of the NiMoN/NiN sample at 10 mA cm in 1 m KOH is 49 mV.

Developing novel nanoparticle-based bioprobes utilized in clinical settings with imaging resolutions ranging from cell to tissue levels is a major challenge for tumor diagnosis and treatment. Herein, an optimized strategy for designing a FeO-based bioprobe for dual-modal cancer imaging based on surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is introduced. N-acetylneuraminic acid (sialic acid) is an abundantly found carbohydrate moiety covering the surface of all vertebrate cells and secreted glycoproteins. The human N-acetylneuraminate pyruvate lyase (NPL) interconverts sialic acid to N-acetylmannosamine and pyruvate, and mutations of the NPL gene were found to cause sialuria and impair the functionality of muscles. Here we report the soluble and functional expression of human NPL in Escherichia coli, which allowed us to study the biochemical properties of two clinically relevant NLP mutations (Asn45Asp and Arg63Cys).

Characterizing marine biotoxins (MBs) composition in coastal aerosol particles has become essential to tracking sources of atmospheric contaminants and assessing human inhalable exposure risks to air particles. Here, coastal aerosol particles were collected over an almost 3-year period for the analysis of eight representative MBs, including brevetoxin (BTX), okadaic acid (OA), pectenotoxin-2 (PTX-2), domoic acid (DA), tetrodotoxin (TTX), saxitoxin (STX), ciguatoxin (CTX) and ω-Conotoxin.
