Urban drainage systems are crucial pathways for the transport of terrestrial microplastics (MPs) to urban rivers. This study investigates the impact of the bed morphology on the transport of MPs at a laboratory-scale 90° confluence between an open channel and a pipeline. A series of flume experiments were conducted to identify the bed morphology and MPs distribution downstream the confluence junction for different confluence discharge ratios (Q/Q) and pipe heights (h).

Conventional bioelectronic devices are typically powered by external, bulky batteries connected by extended electrical wires, which limit the compactness and miniaturization of bioelectronics, restrict patient mobility, and increase the risk of complications such as infections and device-related failures. This perspective discusses the emerging concept of galvanic-cell-based self-powered bioelectronic devices, in which galvanic electrodes serve directly as the tissue-contacting interfaces.

Background: Global maternal health progress stagnated during the Sustainable Development Goal era, while the impact of meteorological conditions on maternal-infant outcomes remains contentious. We aimed to investigate the relationship between the season of conception and adverse perinatal outcomes.
Methods: We conducted a prospective cohort study, collecting basic demographic characteristics of pregnant women and estimating the season of conception based on the date of the last menstrual period.
Background: The lateral approach in total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is indicated primarily for patients with valgus knee deformity, as it allows direct access to the lateral anatomy and systematic correction of associated pathologies.
Surgical Technique: This technique involves strategic lateral soft tissue releases, which improve exposure to the posterolateral corner, enhance tibial rotation, and support patellar alignment without compromising medial vascularity or requiring a tibial tubercle osteotomy for joint exposure. Critical steps in the lateral TKA approach include maintaining a capsular-synovial overlap and preserving the Hoffa fat pad for optimal joint closure, releasing the lateral soft-tissue structures, and using a contralateral tibial cutting guide for enhanced access and protection of the patellar tendon.
Parabens (PBs), extensively used as preservatives in food, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals, are increasingly detected across diverse environmental matrices. Nevertheless, their presence and potential impacts on marine apex predators remain poorly understood. Here, hepatic tissues from 87 Indo-Pacific humpback dolphins collected from the northern South China Sea (NSCS) during 2004-2021 were analyzed for four PBs and five paraben metabolites (m-PBs) to investigate their bioaccumulation characters and potential health risks.

Methods: We constructed a macrophage polarization gene signature (MPGS) by integrating weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) with multiple machine learning algorithms across two independent cohorts: 363 rectal cancer samples from GSE87211 and 177 samples from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA).
Metal sulfides are intensively pursed as promising anode materials for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) owing to their high theoretical capacities, abundant and inexpensive raw materials, however, challenges remain in designing their structures, particularly due to the slow Na⁺ storage kinetics in individual sulfide, and unshaped and inefficient heterostructure persists the issue of low intrinsic ion conductivity. Herein, hollow triple-shell FeS/MoS@NC structure by integrating molecular and microstructural engineering is constructed. The intimate connection between FeS and MoS in FeS/MoS@NC arises from the simultaneous sulfidation of Fe(MoO).

The heart adapts to cardiac demand via chemical modifications of contractile myofilament proteins. Many of these modifications, such as phosphorylation, occur in proteins' intrinsically disordered regions (IDRs). These IDRs, though challenging to study, are recognized as dynamic, tunable regulators of protein function.

The direct low-temperature synthesis of crystalline silicon nanowires (c-SiNWs) on flexible polymer substrates remains a critical yet unrealized milestone for scalable flexible thin-film transistors (TFTs), hindered by the interfacial mechanical mismatch between rigid silicon and deformable polymers and the ultralow thermal budgets imposed by the flexible substrates. Though nanoscale SiNW channels can be patterned/grown and transferred onto polymer substrates, high-precision postgrowth transferring and alignment of these tiny SiNW channels remain technically difficult or too cost-intensive for the implementation of large-area electronics. Here, we demonstrate a direct growth of orderly c-SiNW channels upon a flexible polyimide (PI) film for the first time, through an in-plane solid-liquid-solid (IPSLS) mechanism at 200 °C, achieving uniform diameters of 44 ± 5 nm.
