Cardiac autonomic neuropathy resulting from human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection is common; however, its mechanism remains unknown. The current work attempted to explore the function and mechanism of the P2Y receptor in HIV-glycoprotein 120 (gp120)-induced neuropathy in cervical sympathetic ganglion. The superior cervical ganglion (SCG) of the male SD rat was coated with HIV-gp120 to establish a model of autonomic neuropathy.

Shiga toxin (Stx)-producing (STEC) infections cause outbreaks of severe disease in children ranging from bloody diarrhea to hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS). The adherent factor intimin, encoded by , can facilitate the colonization process of strains and is frequently associated with severe disease. The purpose of this study was to examine and analyze the prevalence and polymorphisms of in clinical STEC strains from pediatric patients under 17 years old with and without HUS, and to assess the pathogenic risk of different subtypes.

At present, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) has caused a serious impact on a global scale. The infection and carrier rate of MRSA in the community is increasing year by year, but there is still no convenient detection system for on-site rapid detection. It is very important to select a rapid detection system to accurately and quickly detect patients infected with MRSA.

Background: Treatment interruption has been found to increase the risk of opportunistic infections and death among HIV-positive adults, posing a challenge to fully realizing antiretroviral therapy (ART). However, it has been observed that short-term interruption (<16 weeks) was not associated with significant increases in adverse clinical events. There remains a dearth of evidence concerning the interruption and resumption of ART after short-term discontinuation in China.

What Is Already Known About This Topic?: Vaccine effectiveness (VE) is positively correlated with the number of administered co-purified diphtheria, tetanus, and acellular pertussis vaccine (DTaP) doses. A matched case-control study conducted in Zhongshan City revealed that the co-purified DTaP VE against pertussis-related illnesses in children aged 4-11 months was 42% for one dose, 88% for two doses, and 95% for three doses, respectively.
What Is Added By This Report?: The results of this study contribute to the current body of research.

Background: This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of the standard agglutination test (SAT), the Brucellacapt test and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) in clinical specimens collected from patients with suspected brucellosis.
Methods: A prospective study was conducted from December 2020 to December 2021. Brucellosis was diagnosed on the basis of clinical evidence, and confirmed by isolation of Brucella or a four-fold rise in SAT titer.

Background: Consistent and complete adherence is considered an essential requirement for patients on antiretroviral therapy (ART). This study aimed to evaluate the impact of ART duration on ART adherence, identify the trend of complete adherence, and compare the factors associated with ART adherence between short-term and long-term ART group among men who have sex with men (MSM) living with HIV in Jinan of China.
Methods: MSM living with HIV aged 18 or above and currently on ART were recruited from October to December 2020 using convenience sampling.

Ferroptosis is an iron-dependent form of nonapoptotic cell death characterized by the accumulation of lipid peroxides in cells. In recent years, extensive attention has been dedicated to exploring safe and effective natural ferroptosis regulators which can provide novel treatment strategies for ferroptosis-related diseases. This study identified galangin, a natural flavonoid, as an effective inhibitor of ferroptosis, which could increase cell viability in RSL3-inhibited HT1080 cells, decrease levels of lipid ROS and MDA, improve PTGS2 mRNA expression, and enhance the expression of glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4).

Macrophages play an important role in causing silicosis eventually becoming an irreversible fibrotic disease, and there are no specific drugs for silicosis in the clinic so far. Pirfenidone has consistently been shown to have anti-inflammatory and anti-fibrotic effects, but the specific mechanism by which it ameliorates fibrosis in silicosis is unclear. A rat silicosis model was established in this study, and lung tissues and serum were collected by batch execution at 14, 28, and 56 days.

A high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry method was established for the simultaneous determination of mycophenolic acid, mycophenolate mofetil, tacrolimus, rapamycin, everolimus and pimecrolimus in human whole blood by optimizing the QuEChERS (Quick, Easy, Cheap, Effective, Rugged, and Safe) preparation method. Whole blood was extracted into ethyl acetate, salted out with anhydrous magnesium sulfate, and purified with ethylenediamine-N-propyl silane adsorbent. The supernatant was evaporated under nitrogen until dry and finally reconstituted in methanol.

In this study, we examined the sources and temporal variability of 16 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) found in fine particulate matter (PM) in a typical industrial city in northern China. We also evaluated the incremental lifetime cancer risk (ILCR) from the inhalation of these PAHs. Atmospheric PM samples were collected for 7 consecutive days each month from 2014 to 2019, and the 16 PAHs were measured using multiplex gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry.

Background: Emerging mite-borne pathogens and associated disease burdens in recent decades are raising serious public health concerns, yet their distributions and ecology remain under-investigated. We aim to describe the geographical distributions of blood-sucking mites and mite-borne agents and to assess their ecological niches in China.
Methods: We mapped 549 species of blood-sucking mites belonging to 100 genera at the county level and eight mite-associated agents detected from 36 species of blood-sucking mites in China during 1978-2020.

The anti-apoptotic protein HAX-1 has been proposed to modulate mitochondrial membrane potential, calcium signaling and actin remodeling. HAX-1 mutation or deficiency results in severe congenital neutropenia (SCN), loss of lymphocytes and neurological impairments by largely unknown mechanisms. Here, we demonstrate that the activation of c-Abl kinase in response to oxidative or genotoxic stress is dependent on HAX-1 association.

Introduction: Several vaccine events causing public concern have occurred in China that were investigated and responded to by the central government. We describe causes, influences, and policy or practice changes associated with vaccine events that occurred between 2005 and 2021. We make recommendations to foster resilience in China's Expanded Program of Immunization (EPI) system and vaccination enterprises and to sustain vaccine and program confidence.

Acute influenza infection has been reported to be associated with neurological symptoms such as influenza-associated encephalopathy (IAE). Although the pathophysiology of this condition remain unclear, neuroinflammation and associated alterations in the central nervous system (CNS) are usually induced. Microglia (MGs), CNS-resident macrophages, are generally the first cells to be activated in response to brain infection or damage.

Neurturin (NRTN) is one of the glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor family ligands crucial for neuron growth, differentiation and maintenance. Recent studies showed NRTN promotes an aggressive pancreatic cancer phenotype, and predicts shorter survival in lung cancer patients. However, its expression and function in colorectal cancer (CRC) remain unclear.
