[Consideration on implementation of co-administration of Seasonal Influenza and COVID-19 vaccines during pandemic in China].

Influenza is an infectious respiratory disease caused by the influenza viruses. Older people, infants and people with underlying medical conditions could have a higher risk of severe influenza symptoms and complications. The co-infection of Coronavirus Diseases 2019 (COVID-19) with influenza viruses could lead to the complication of prevention, diagnosis, control, treatment, and recovery of COVID-19.

Definition of CRISPR Cas12a -Cleavage Units to Facilitate CRISPR Diagnostics.

The CRISPR diagnostic (CRISPR-Dx) technology that employs the -cleavage activities has shown great potential in diagnostic sensitivity, specificity, convenience, and portability, and has been recognized as the next-generation diagnostic methods. However, due to the lack of standardized definition of Cas -cleavage enzymatic units, it is difficult to standardize the present CRISPR-Dx systems, which have undoubtedly impeded the development of the CRISPR-Dx industry. To solve the problem, we here first systematically optimized the reaction systems for Cas12a, and then defined its -cleavage units (U), which we believe will be of great importance and interest to researchers in both molecular diagnostic industry and basic research.

Methods: A Specific Enhancer for PCR-amplified Nucleic Acid (SENA) was developed based on the Cas12a trans-cleavage activity, which is specifically triggered by the rRT-PCR amplicons of the SARS-CoV-2 Orf1ab (O) and N fragments.

Associations between short-term exposure to PM and stroke incidence and mortality in China: A case-crossover study and estimation of the burden.

Stroke and fine particulate matter (PM) are two important public health concerns worldwide. Although numerous studies have reported the associations between PM and stroke, scientific evidence in China is incomplete, particularly the effect of PM on the acute incidence and national acute health burdens of stroke attributed to PM pollution. This study identified about 131,947 registered patients and 23,018 deaths due to stroke in 10 counties located in various regions from 2013 to 2017.

Ensuring spontaneously adjusting behaviors of the public in their daily life in response to heat waves is an important aspect of successful public health intervention under climate change. However, the current response behavior guidance released by the government is insufficient because of the limited understanding of public perceptions of heat-related risk and the motivating factors for the public's diverse adaptive behaviors. Here, we conducted a survey on the behavioral adaptations of 3065 urban residents in response to heat waves in Jinan, which is a typical city suffering from a hot climate.

The prevalence of non-GII.4 norovirus genotypes in acute gastroenteritis outbreaks in Jinan, China.

Noroviruses (NoVs) are the leading cause of acute viral gastroenteritis outbreaks. From June 2015 to March 2017, fifteen outbreaks of acute gastroenteritis (AGE) were reported to the Jinan Center for Disease Control and Prevention in China. To identify the circulating NoV genotypes associated with outbreaks in Jinan, China, 414 specimens from the 15 outbreaks were collected and analyzed for the causative viruses, and phylogenetic analysis was performed on the NoV-positive strains.

In this prospective cohort study, a total of 42 005 Chinese participants aged 20 to 80 who were free of stroke at baseline were included and selected into subgroups of stroke subtypes (ischemic, hemorrhagic, and total).

[History of influenza pandemics in China during the past century].

Five influenza pandemics had occurred during the past century (1918 "Spanish flu" , 1957 "Asian flu" , 1968 "Hong Kong flu" , 1977 "Russian flu" and 2009 H1N1 Pandemic), accounting for hundreds of millions of people infected and tens of millions dead. China was influenced by all the five pandemics, and three of them (1957 "Asian flu" , 1968 "Hong Kong flu" and 1977 "Russian flu" ) were originated from China. The pandemics triggered the establishment of public health agencies and influenza surveillance capacities.
