Hypoxia imposes notable stress on organisms and even causes tissue damage; however, the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying hypoxic adaptation and maladaptation are elusive. Here, we performed single-cell RNA sequencing to analyze hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs) and erythroid cells in a mouse model of high-altitude polycythemia (HAPC) mimicking long-term high-altitude hypoxia exposure. We identified a distinct erythroid-biased multipotent progenitor subset, FOS MPP, characterized by a unique responsiveness to interferon (IFN) signaling, which expands under hypoxia conditions.

Microplastics and antibiotic resistance genes are two new pollutants in water environments, and they have potential risks to human health and ecological safety. On the basis of the accumulation of pollutants and microorganisms in sediment, macrobenthic invertebrates are considered as potential practitioners of microplastic degradation and antibiotic resistance gene (ARG) transfer. However, whether microplastic degradation can affect ARG transfer in aquatic environments, especially in the gut of macrobenthic invertebrates, remains unclear.

The drawbacks of low efficiency, high cost, and high energy consumption have always been main concerns for the treatment of antibiotic wastewater and massive solid wastes. In this work, a novel recyclable catalyst ((RM/BC)) was proposed by "To treat waste with waste" and "Resource oriented utilization of solid waste". Through hydrogenation and co-pyrolysis, the new catalyst was produced by industrial waste of red mud (RM) and biomass waste as the raw materials.

Background: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune disease which afflicts about nearly 1% of global population. RA results in synovitis and cartilage/bone damage, even disability which aggravates the health burden. Many drugs are used to relieve RA, such as glucocorticoids (GCs), non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs) in the clinical treatment.

Atherosclerosis is the leading cause of cardiovascular disease and myocardial infarction. Precise and effective plaque targeting is a major objective for therapeutic outcomes throughout various stages of atherosclerosis. Inspired by the natural recruitment of neutrophils in atherosclerotic plaques, we fabricated a simvastatin (ST)-loaded and neutrophil membrane-cloaked nanoplatform (NNP) for enhancing localized payload delivery and atherosclerosis management.

The human body contains trillions of cells, classified into specific cell types, with diverse morphologies and functions. In addition, cells of the same type can assume different states within an individual's body during their lifetime. Understanding the complexities of the proteome in the context of a human organism and its many potential states is a necessary requirement to understanding human biology, but these complexities can neither be predicted from the genome, nor have they been systematically measurable with available technologies.

Tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) is a key cytokine in inflammation and immune responses, making its rapid and accurate detection essential for disease diagnosis and management. In this study, we developed a highly sensitive chemiluminescence immunoassay (CLIA) using antibody-coated magnetic particles (Ab-MPs-CLIA) for TNF-α detection. From nine candidate antibodies, we identified an optimal pair through epitope competition and affinity assessments, significantly improving assay performance.

Ethylbenzene (EB)-induced hepatotoxic effects has been indicated as oxidative damage and mitochondria-mediated apoptosis in vivo in our previous study, yet the mechanisms remain unclear. This study aimed to explore the role of the mTOR-p70S6K signaling pathway in EB-induced hepatoxic effects in vitro. Normal human hepatocytes (L02 cells) were exposed to different concentrations of ethylbenzene (0-10 mM) for 24 h.

Parabens (PBs), especially propylparaben, commonly used in consumer products, pose environmental and health concerns. This study explored propylparaben's cytotoxicity on HTR-8/SVneo human trophoblast cells, revealing significant dose-dependent cytotoxic effects, particularly post 48-h exposure. Elevated propylparaben levels triggered apoptosis, evidenced by increased Bax and activated Caspase-3, and induced the G0/G1 cell cycle arrest.

Human norovirus (HuNoV) is a leading cause of foodborne diseases worldwide, making rapid and accurate detection crucial for prevention and control. In recent years, the CRISPR/Cas13a system, known for its single-base resolution in RNA recognition and unique collateral cleavage activity, is particularly suitable for sensitive and rapid RNA detection. However, isothermal amplification-based CRISPR/Cas13 assays often require an external transcription step, complicating the detection process.

Background: Preeclampsia (PE) is a global pregnancy concern, characterized by hypertension with an unclear etiology. This study employs Mendelian randomization (MR) and single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) to clarify its genetic and molecular roots, offering insights into diagnosis and treatment avenues.
Methods: We integrated PE-specific genome-wide association study (GWAS) data, expression and protein quantitative trait loci (eQTL and pQTL) data, and single-cell data from peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs).

To alleviate bone loss, most current drugs target osteoclasts. Saikosaponin A (Ssa), a triterpene saponin derived from (also known as Radix bupleuri), has immunoregulatory, neuromodulatory, antiviral, anticancer, anti-convulsant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-proliferative effects. Recently, modulation of bone homeostasis was shown to involve ferroptosis.

Here, we explored the role of Prolyl 4-Hydroxylase Subunit Alpha 3 (P4HA3), the most recently identified member of the prolyl-4-hydroxylase (P4H) family, in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) progression. P4HA3 is upregulated during cancer progression; however, its specific role in HNSCC progression remains elusive. Thus, this study aimed to elucidate the regulatory function of P4HA3 in HNSCC development and progression and to describe the underlying mechanisms.

Introduction: Bacterial resistance presents a major challenge to both the ecological environment and human well-being, with persistence playing a key role. Multiple studies were recently undertaken to examine the factors influencing the formation of persisters and the underlying process, with a primary focus on Gram-negative bacteria and (Gram-positive bacteria). Enterococcus faecalis () is capable of causing a variety of infectious diseases, but there have been few studies of persisters.

Microplastics have emerged as a prominent global environmental contaminant, and they have been found in both human placenta and breast milk. However, the potential effects and mechanisms of maternal exposure to microplastics at various gestational stages on offspring neurodevelopment remain poorly understood. This investigation delves into the potential neurodevelopmental ramifications of maternal exposure to polystyrene nanoplastics (PS-NPs) during distinct phases of pregnancy and lactation.
