Zinc (Zn) anode shows great potential for aqueous zinc-ion batteries yet faces persistent issues of dendritic growth and parasitic reactions at the interface. Here, six polyol additives with different hydroxylated carbon chain lengths are systematically studied under standardized conditions as interfacial regulators for optimizing Zn plating behavior. The calculations coupled with experimental analyses reveal a critical chain-length dependence: short-chain polyols prioritize Zn migration and desolvation but insufficiently protect the interface, whereas long-chain polyols lead to excessive kinetic barriers despite effective interfacial stabilization.

Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV), a leading cause of viral encephalitis in Asia and the Western Pacific, is regulated by type I interferon (IFN) signaling pathway, in which STAT2 is critical. However, STAT2's exact role in JEV-mediated IFN evasion remains unclear. Existing murine models of JEV infection predominantly employ high viral titers to induce encephalitis and primarily use immunocompetent or IFN receptor-deficient mice, limiting their utility for studying JEV's IFN evasion mechanisms.

Background: Hymenopteran stings (Apidae/Vespidae) represent critical emergencies frequently encountered during summer and autumn seasons. These incidents can trigger localized inflammatory responses and severe systemic complications-including anaphylactic shock, acute organ injury, and multi-organ dysfunction-potentially leading to death, especially in resource-limited areas. While honeybee and wasp venom components (melittin/hyaluronidase vs kinins/phospholipase) and effects differ, potentially causing distinct complications, this study develops a universal early risk prediction tool without differentiating bee species.

Cerebral malaria (CM), a life-threatening neurological complication of Plasmodium falciparum infection, is characterized by severe neuroinflammation and long-term neurological sequelae. Central nervous system inflammation, driven by brain-infiltrated CD8 T cells, represents a hallmark pathological feature of CM. In this study, we demonstrate that astrocytes, a critical component of the blood-brain barrier and neurovascular unit, exhibit a robust interferon-γ response during CM, facilitating CD8 T cell recruitment into the brain parenchyma and antigen presentation to these immune cells.

The mediodorsal thalamus (MD) constitutes an integral component of the medial nociceptive transmission system, although its precise role and related neural pathway in pain processing remains incompletely elucidated. While anatomical studies have confirm reciprocal projections between the MD and anterior cingulate cortex (ACC), the functional contribution of ACC-MD neural circuitry to nociceptive regulation has not yet been systematically investigated. In this study, we used immunohistochemistry, pharmacogenetic manipulations, and multidimensional behavioral assessments to investigate the role of the MD and ACC-MD pathway in pain modulation.

Blood pressure (BP) is a crucial component of the APACHE II scoring system for assessing the severity of illness in ICU patients, and it plays a pivotal role in predicting patient mortality. Based on fluctuations, the 24-h BP patterns of ICU patients can be categorized into dippers (10% ≤ the fall < 20%), extreme-dippers (fall ≥ 20%), non-dippers (0% ≤ the fall < 10%), and reverse-dippers (fall < 0%). This study aims to investigate whether there are statistically significant differences in ICU mortality, in-hospital mortality, 28-day mortality, and 1-year mortality among the dipper, non-dipper, extreme-dipper, and reverse-dipper groups.
