A series of novel 3,3-dimethyl-2,3,4,9-tetrahydro-1H-carbazole derivatives were rationally designed, synthesized and evaluated for their biological activity as AcrB inhibitors. The compounds were assessed for their antibiotic potentiating effects, followed by evaluation of Nile Red efflux inhibition, and off-target effects including activity on the outer and inner bacterial membranes. Ten compounds potentiated antibiotic activity at sub-inhibitory concentrations, reducing the minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of at least one of the tested antibiotics by at least 8-fold, with three derivatives (7c, 11g, and 11i) achieving 32-fold MIC reductions at 128 μg/mL.

Purpose: Healthy aging levels are generally low among rural older adults, yet the effects of combined static-dynamic balance training and reminiscence therapy on this population remain underexplored. This study evaluated the efficacy of a combined static-dynamic balance training and reminiscence therapy (SDBT-RT) program in promoting healthy aging in rural communities, with emphasis on both immediate and sustained outcomes.
Patients And Methods: A randomized, assessor-blinded, controlled trial with two parallel groups included 64 adults >60 years from rural Huzhou, China, randomized to intervention (n=32) and control (n=32) groups.

The commercialization of lithium‑sulfur (LiS) batteries faces fundamental issues from polysulfide shuttling to inefficient redox kinetics, compounded by the absence of systematic methods for catalyst design. Herein, we present a machine learning (ML)-driven strategy to design MoS/MoO heterostructures anchored on nitrogen-doped hollow carbon shells (NCS) via gradient boosting decision trees modeling. The ML-guided optimization identifies critical synthesis parameters (e.

The secondary structure of a protein serves as the foundation for constructing its three-dimensional (3D) structure, which in turn is critical for determining its function and role in biological processes. Therefore, accurately predicting secondary structure not only facilitates the understanding of a protein's 3D conformation but also provides essential insights into its interactions, functional mechanisms, and potential applications in biomedical research. Deep learning models are particularly effective in protein secondary structure prediction because of their ability to process complex sequence data and extract meaningful patterns, thereby increasing prediction accuracy and efficiency.

In continuation of our efforts to identify novel herbicide lead compounds, twenty new 5-(1-amino-4-phenoxybutylidene)barbituric acid derivatives containing an enamino diketone motif were synthesized and evaluated for their herbicidal activities. The greenhouse bioassay results indicated that several of the target compounds, including , , , , and , exhibited notable post-emergence herbicidal activity, with sum inhibition rates exceeding 70% at a dosage of 150 g ha, which was superior to that of the commercial herbicide flumiclorac-pentyl (FP). The structure-activity relationship analysis demonstrated that the steric and electronic effects of the R group, as well as the lipophilicity of the target compounds, significantly influenced herbicidal activity.

: Molybdenum (Mo) is an essential trace element for animals, but too much intake can cause adverse effects. Due to the metabolic characteristics of goats and other ruminants, they are more susceptible to the cumulative effects of Mo toxicity. A high Mo intake can cause multi-organ toxicity in ruminants, but the mechanism of damage to the pancreas is still unclear.

Traditional algorithms such as Dijkstra and APF rely on complete environmental information for path planning, which results in numerous constraints during modeling. This not only increases the complexity of the algorithms but also reduces the efficiency and reliability of the planning. Swarm intelligence algorithms possess strong data processing and search capabilities, enabling them to efficiently solve path planning problems in different environments and generate approximately optimal paths.

The tandem catalytic conversion of furfural to cyclopentanone represents a crucial transformation in biomass valorization, yet faces persistent challenges due to competing hydrogenation and ring-opening pathways. Herein, we report the rational design of a three-dimensional flower-like hierarchical nanostructure catalyst derived from NiZnAl-layered double oxide precursors, which features well-dispersed NiZn alloy active sites. Comprehensive characterization studies reveal that Zn incorporation plays a dual role in modulating surface acidity and promoting oxygen vacancies formation through structural reconstruction.
