In continuation of our efforts to identify novel herbicide lead compounds, twenty new 5-(1-amino-4-phenoxybutylidene)barbituric acid derivatives containing an enamino diketone motif were synthesized and evaluated for their herbicidal activities. The greenhouse bioassay results indicated that several of the target compounds, including , , , , and , exhibited notable post-emergence herbicidal activity, with sum inhibition rates exceeding 70% at a dosage of 150 g ha, which was superior to that of the commercial herbicide flumiclorac-pentyl (FP). The structure-activity relationship analysis demonstrated that the steric and electronic effects of the R group, as well as the lipophilicity of the target compounds, significantly influenced herbicidal activity. Among these, was identified as a promising herbicide lead compound due to its high total herbicidal efficacy, broad-spectrum activity, and favorable crop safety profile. Molecular simulation studies indicated that binds effectively to protoporphyrinogen IX oxidase (PPO), suggesting its potential as a novel PPO inhibitor. This study highlights as a promising lead compound for the development of novel PPO-inhibiting herbicides.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is characterized by impairments in motor control following the degeneration of dopamine-producing neurons located in the substantia nigra pars compacta. Environmental pesticides such as Paraquat (PQ) and Maneb (MB) contribute to the onset of PD by inducing oxidative stress (OS). This study evaluated the therapeutic efficacy of moderate physical activity (PA) on both motor and non-motor symptoms in a Wistar rat model of Paraquat and Maneb (PQ/MB) induced PD.

The context of the peer review was that requested by the European Commission following the submission and evaluation of confirmatory information in the areas of environmental fate, mammalian toxicology and residues. The conclusions were reached on the basis of the evaluation of the representative uses of pinoxaden as a herbicide in winter and spring cereals.

Auxins are involved in the regulation of fruit set and development; however, the role of IAA is unclear in pea (Pisum sativum) since the endogenous auxin 4-Cl-IAA appears to be the auxin stimulating ovary (pericarp) growth. To further understand the role of auxins during fruit development, auxin localization, quantitation, transport, and gene expression activity were assessed in this model legume species. IAA levels and auxin activity (DR5::β-Glucuronidase [GUS] staining and enzyme activity) were substantially reduced in the pericarp vascular tissues, pedicels, and peduncles of fruit upon seed removal, reflecting auxin transport streams derived from the seeds through these tissues.
