The non-Hermitian skin effect and nonreciprocal behavior are sensitive to the boundary conditions, which are unique features of non-Hermitian systems. In such systems, eigenenergies can become complex, and all eigenstates tend to localize at the boundary, a phenomenon that contrasts with Hermitian topologies. In this work, we theoretically study the dynamic behavior of the propagation of Gaussian wavepackets inside a non-Hermitian lattice and analyze the self-acceleration process of bulk state or Gaussian wavepackets toward the system's boundary.

Background: Using event-related potentials (ERPs), we aimed to investigate audiovisual integration neural mechanisms during a letter identification task in the left and right sides. Unimodal (A,V) and bimodal (AV) stimuli were presented on either side, with ERPs from unimodal (A,V) stimuli on the same side being compared to those from simultaneous bimodal stimuli (AV). Non-zero results of the AV-(A + V) difference waveforms indicated audiovisual integration on the left/right side.

Heavy metal pollution has become a serious concern across the globe due to their persistent nature, higher toxicity, and recalcitrance. These toxic metals threaten the stability of the environment and the health of all living beings. Heavy metals also enter the human food chain by eating contaminated foods and cause toxic effects on human health.

Antimony (Sb) poses a significant ecological threat. This study combines biochemical, pathological, transcriptome, and metabolome analyses to assess the short-term (14-day) toxic impact of two Sb levels (25 mg/kg and 125 mg/kg) on earthworms (Eisenia fetida). Higher Sb concentration caused severe intestinal damage, elevated metallothionein (MT) levels, and reduced antioxidant capacity.

Members of the Metal Tolerance Protein (MTP) family are critical in mediating the transport and tolerance of divalent metal cations. Despite their significance, the understanding of MTP genes in mustard (Brassica juncea) remains limited, especially regarding their response to heavy metal (HM) stress. In our study, we identified MTP gene sets in Brassica rapa (17 genes), Brassica nigra (18 genes), and B.

Given the significance of nitrogen (N) as the most constraining nutrient in agro-ecosystems, it is crucial to develop an updated model for N fertilizers management to achieve higher crop yields while minimizing the negative impacts on the environment. Coated urea is touted as one of the most important controlled-release N fertilizers used in agriculture to reduce cropland emissions and improve nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) for optimal crop yields. The sustainability of coated urea depends on the trade-offs between crop productivity, NUE and greenhouse gas emissions (CO, CH and NO); however, role of various agro-edaphic factors in influencing these trade-offs remains unclear.

The present study aimed to investigate the variations in the nutritional composition, antioxidant capacity, and metabolite profile of lilies subjected to different drying treatments, including vacuum freeze drying (VFD), hot air drying (HAD), vacuum drying (VD), and infrared drying (ID). The results show that VFD provided better preservation of the original coloration and displayed the highest levels of total amino acid content, total phenolic content, total flavonoid content, and polysaccharide and alkaloid content. Our results reveal that VFD treatment can be employed to obtain high-quality lilies with desirable appearance characteristics and nutrient compositions.

Hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) is a major cause of liver damage during hepatic resection, transplantation, and other surgical procedures, often leading to graft failure and liver dysfunction. Recent studies have identified ferroptosis, a form of regulated cell death characterized by iron-dependent lipid peroxidation, as a key contributor to IRI. In this study, we investigated the protective effects of Ticlopidine, a thienopyridine compound and platelet aggregation inhibitor, on hepatic IRI.

To explore the application of phase change energy storage materials in building energy conservation, in this study, an innovative composite thermal energy storage cement mortar (CTESCM) was developed using lauric acid-palmitic acid/expanded graphite (LA-PA/EG) as the composite phase change material (CPCM). Seven different CTESCM test blocks with different CPCM mass contents were prepared. The thermal characterization of the CTESCMs was achieved using a differential scanning calorimeter (DSC), a thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), thermal conductivity tests, and heat storage/release tests.

The mass content of expanded graphite (EG) in fatty acid/expanded graphite composite phase-change materials (CPCMs) affects their thermal properties. In this study, a series of capric-myristic acid/expanded graphite CPCMs with different EG mass content (1%, 3%, 5%, 8%, 12%, 16%, and 20%) were prepared. The adsorption performance effect of EG on the PCMs was observed and analyzed.

In this work, three dimensional (3D) self-supported Ni-FeOH@Ni-FeP needle arrays with core-shell heterojunction structure are fabricated via in situ hydroxide growth over Ni-FeP surface. The as-prepared electrodes show an outstanding oxygen evolution reaction (OER) performance, only requiring the low overpotential of 232 mV to reach 200 mA cm with the Tafel slop of 40 mV dec. For overall water splitting, an alkaline electrolyzer with these electrodes only requires a cell voltage of 2.

Antimony (Sb) is known for its severe and extensive toxicity, and earthworms are considered important indicator organisms in soil ecosystems. Therefore, the present study investigated the mechanism of toxicity of the Sb at different concentrations (50, 200 mg/kg) on earthworms using biochemical indicators, pathological sections, as well as metabolomics and transcriptomics analyses. The results showed that as the exposure concentration increased, both the antioxidant system of earthworms, extent of intestinal damage, and their metabolomic characteristics were significantly enhanced.

Objective: Echocardiographic videos are commonly used for automatic semantic segmentation of endocardium, which is crucial in evaluating cardiac function and assisting doctors to make accurate diagnoses of heart disease. However, this task faces two distinct challenges: one is the edge blurring, which is caused by the presence of speckle noise or excessive de-noising operation, and the other is the lack of an effective feature fusion approach for multilevel features for obtaining accurate endocardium.
Methods: In this study, a deep learning model, based on multilevel edge perception and calibration fusion is proposed to improve the segmentation performance.

Global warming and environmental pollutants both pose a threat to the behavior and physiology of animals, but research on the combined effects of the two is limited. Atrazine, a widely used herbicide, has toxic effects on organisms. In this study, the effects of environmental concentrations of atrazine exposure (100 μg/L) for seven days on the movement, metabolism and gene expression related to motility of Pelophylax nigromaculatus larvae (GS8) were investigated under global warming.
