Retinal image segmentation is essential for analyzing retinal structures like vessels and diagnosing retinopathy. However, the inherent intricacy of the retina, along with annotation scarcity and data heterogeneity, presents prevalent challenges in creating accurate and generalizable deep learning models. Diffusion models, while initially developed for image generation, have recently shown great promise for visual perception by leveraging the learned internal representations.

Traditional coal burning emits a large amount of pollutants, including sulfur dioxide (SO), nitrogen oxides, and carbon dioxide (CO), severely contaminating the environment and exacerbating global warming. In contrast, integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) technology, with highly efficient and clean characteristics, significantly reduces pollutant emissions and has a positive impact on environmental protection. It is a simple and effective method to obtain hydrogen (H) by purifying IGCC fuel gas with the main components of H and CO.

Rab proteins are key regulators of membrane trafficking. Dysregulated Rab proteins are associated with neurological diseases through the regulation of receptor endocytosis, recycling, and/or degradation. Rab26 is highly expressed in the brain, but its physiological function remains poorly elucidated.

Background: Stroke was the third leading cause of global deaths in 2021, linked to air pollution, especially particulate matter (PMP). Research shows that ischemic strokes are more affected by air pollution than hemorrhagic strokes. This study aims to evaluate the disease burden, trends, and future projections of ischemic stroke associated with PMP using the latest data.

Low-concentration coalbed methane (LCCBM) is an abundant unconventional natural gas resource, but the utilization efficiency of methane (CH) is very low. Sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) enhances hydration for CH recovery but generates foams during hydrate dissociation, limiting continuous production. To address this issue, the -SO group was fixed on the polystyrene nanopolymers (named -SO@PSNS) for enhancing hydration to recover CH from 21.

Rationale: Isolated mesenteric injury often results from traffic accidents causing blunt abdominal trauma, exhibit nonspecific symptoms and signs. Most mesenteric injuries occur concurrently with injuries to other organs, such as the liver and spleen. As a result, the incidence of isolated mesenteric injury is very low and often misdiagnosed.

Given the rapid increase in breast cancer incidence, the Automated Breast Volume Scanner (ABVS) is developed to screen breast tumours efficiently and accurately. However, reviewing ABVS images is a challenging task owing to the significant variations in sizes and shapes of breast tumours. We propose a novel 3D segmentation network (i.

Objective: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory disorder that causes joint damage, including cartilage degradation and bone erosion. Bone morphogenetic protein 9 (BMP9), a member of the TGF-β superfamily, plays a key role in osteogenesis and tissue repair. However, its role in bone erosion and inflammation in RA remains underexplored.

Advancements in tissue regeneration, particularly bone regeneration is key area of research due to potential of novel therapeutic approaches. Efforts to reduce reliance on autologous and allogeneic bone grafts have led to the development of biomaterials that promote synchronized and controlled bone healing. However, the use of growth factors is limited by their short half-life, slow tissue penetration, large molecular size and potential toxicity.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers developed a new deep learning model called STGF R-CNN to improve the detection of senescent cells, which are important for studying cell aging but often hard to identify due to their small size and similar appearances.* -
  • The STGF R-CNN combines a Faster R-CNN framework with a Swin Transformer and group normalization to enhance the model's performance and make it more efficient for clinical use.* -
  • Experimental results showed that this model achieved a high detection accuracy (mean Average Precision of 0.835) and significantly reduced assessment time from 12 hours to under 1 second, indicating its potential for applications like drug screening.*

Automatic and accurate classification of breast cancer in multimodal ultrasound images is crucial to improve patients' diagnosis and treatment effect and save medical resources. Methodologically, the fusion of multimodal ultrasound images often encounters challenges such as misalignment, limited utilization of complementary information, poor interpretability in feature fusion, and imbalances in sample categories. To solve these problems, we propose a feature alignment mutual attention fusion method (FAMF-Net), which consists of a region awareness alignment (RAA) block, a mutual attention fusion (MAF) block, and a reinforcement learning-based dynamic optimization strategy(RDO).

To analyze the differential expression profiles of microRNAs (miRNAs) in spermatozoa of patients with sperm DNA damage and to investigate the role of miRNAs in sperm DNA damage. Male infertility patients with sperm DNA damage who attended the First Affiliated Hospital of Henan University of Chinese Medicine from October 2023 to December 2023 were selected and included in this study as a case group. Fertile healthy men who were seen at the health check-up center during the same period and diagnosed by examination were also included as a control group.

  • The study aimed to analyze how high body mass index (BMI) affects short-term outcomes after robotic-assisted total knee arthroplasty (TKA).
  • Researchers compared outcomes from 424 knees across different BMI categories, including normal weight, overweight, and various obesity classes.
  • Findings showed no significant differences in clinical or radiologic outcomes, operation times, or complications related to high BMI after the surgery.

Article Synopsis
  • A study looked at patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) who had knee surgery and checked if using a special type of bone filled with medicine helped prevent infections.*
  • The patients were split into two groups: one group got the special medicine-loaded bone, and the other group got their own bone for the surgery.*
  • The results showed that the special treatment led to lower inflammation after surgery, but both groups had similar infection rates, suggesting more studies are needed.*

Endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-endolysosome interactions regulate cholesterol exchange between the ER and the endolysosome. ER-endolysosome membrane contact sites mediate the ER-endolysosome interaction. VAP-ORP1L (vesicle-associated membrane protein-associated protein- OSBP-related protein 1L) interaction forms the major contact site between the ER and the lysosome, which is regulated by Rab7.

Objective: To assess the clinical effect and safety of comprehensive therapy of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED) with damp-heat stasis.

Methods: We selected 108 cases of ED with damp-heat stasis meeting the inclusion criteria and treated with tadalafil (the control group, n = 54) or tadalafil + comprehensive TCM therapy (the trial group, n = 54) in the First Affiliated Hospital of Henan University of Chinese Medicine in the same period. After 8 weeks of treatment, we recorded the patients' scores on IIEF-5, TCM syndrome, erectile quality (EQS), 9-Item Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) and Generalized Anxiety Scale 7 (GAD-7).

Rare diseases have various types, low incidence rates, complex conditions, and are often difficult to diagnose. Due to China's large population, there is a significant number of rare disease patients, but there is a shortage of orphan drugs. Consequently, these patients often find themselves in a situation where necessary medications are either unavailable or unaffordable.

  • Accurate segmentation of gastric tumors from CT scans is crucial for effective diagnosis and treatment of gastric cancer, but it faces challenges like varying resolution and complex tumor characteristics.
  • The study introduces a new segmentation method called Hierarchical Class-Aware Domain Adaptive Network (HCA-DAN), which combines a 3D neural network and a Transformer to effectively extract features from 3D CT images while addressing cross-center data variations.
  • Results show that HCA-DAN outperforms other segmentation models, achieving higher mean dice similarity coefficients in both in-center and cross-center tests, indicating promising performance in accurately identifying gastric tumors.
