Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) carries a dismal prognosis due to high post-resection recurrence, yet current prognostic tools inadequately capture systemic tumor-host interactions. This study developed and validated a novel CT-based body composition radiomics model for predicting recurrence-free survival (RFS) in 191 PDAC patients undergoing curative resection. Using a temporal validation design (training cohort: 2019-2022, n = 142; validation cohort: 2016-2018, n = 49), we extracted 1,688 radiomics features from adipose and muscle tissues at the L3 vertebral level.

To elucidate the interaction between zinc (Zn) and copper (Cu), this study investigates the mechanisms by which Zn mediates detoxification of Cu toxicity in the Pacific oyster Crassostrea gigas. Physiological indices and transcriptome analyses under control (CTR), Cu, and Zn_Cu treatments reveal that excess Cu induces systemic toxicity in oysters. Cu accumulation in tissues alters metal transporters, downregulating Cu importers and exporters (Zn and Cu transporters) while upregulating chaperones and metallothionein (MT1) for detoxification.

As typical filter-feeding organisms, bivalve scallops exhibit strong capabilities in accumulating paralytic shellfish toxins (PSTs) from toxic algae, posing risks to public health. To investigate PST-induced molecular responses in the kidney, the major "center" for toxin transformation, a time-course transcriptome analysis of the Yesso Scallop (Patinopecten yessoensis) over six time points (0, 1, 3, 5, 10, and 15 days) after exposure to the PST-producing algae (Alexandrium catenella) were conducted. During the 15 days exposure, PST accumulation in scallop kidneys showed a continuous increase.

As filter-feeding bivalves, scallops exhibit remarkable tolerance to paralytic shellfish toxins (PSTs) produced by Alexandrium dinoflagellates, yet the molecular mechanisms enabling concurrent PST accumulation and physiological resilience remain poorly understood. Here, we integrated transcriptomics and weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) to dissect dynamic gene networks in scallop digestive glands during a 15-day exposure to PST-producing algae. We identified eight responsive modules, with the hub module M4 coordinating all phases of xenobiotic metabolism: phase I oxidation (CYP enzymes), phase II conjugation (GST/GGT), and phase III efflux (MRP transporters).

Unlabelled: Viral assemblages of scallops are still relatively unknown. Here, metagenomic analysis was used to study virus communities in the gut of scallops to establish the first scallop virome data set (SVD); this contains 7,447 viral operational taxonomic units. Protein-sharing networks and phylogenetic analyses demonstrated the high diversity and novelty of the SVD, which is very different from viromes from other habitats.

The development of separator by tunning the zincophilic and iodide ion-repulsive properties of covalent organic frameworks (COFs) that regulate cycle lifespan and capacity of aqueous zinc-iodine (Zn-I) batteries is one of challenges. In this work, we have shown a systematic strategic-driven investigation to elucidate the role of functional triazine properties in COF modified separator towards overall performance of aqueous Zn-I batteries. As such, three COFs with the same topology but different triazine number in their structures, have been synthesized, among which the triazine-richest framework, TAPA-TTB-COF-based separator demonstrated to be most effective to guide uniform Zn flux and simultaneously inhibit polyiodide shuttling due to the zincophilic nature and good iodide ion-repulsive capability of triazine.

Multiple myeloma (MM) is a hematological malignancy characterized by abnormal proliferation of clonal plasma cells, which is usually confined to the bone marrow (BM). But some malignant plasma cells grow independently of the BM, called extramedullary disease (EMD). With the clinical application of proteasome inhibitors, immunomodulators, monoclonal antibodies, and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, the overall survival of MM patients has been significantly improved, but the survival of patients with EMD is still worse than that of non-EMD patients.

Bivalve breeding programs account for over 50% of global marine aquaculture, and growth is one of the most important traits of them. With the purpose of investigating the key genes related to growth performance of Yesso scallop (Patinopecten yessoensis), an economically important bivalve, we conducted transcriptome comparison between fast- and slow-growing individuals, and identified 1,531 differentially expressed genes (DEGs), with 656 up-regulated in fast-growing scallops, categorizing into six molecular function terms, of which the thyroxine 5'-deiodinase activity term exhibited the lowest p values. This term contained only two genes, and they were both type I iodothyronine deiodinase (D1), the enzyme catalyzing triiodothyronine (T) production in vertebrates.
