Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Conventional Western treatments (CTs) for preeclampsia (PE) are often linked to serious side effects, such as higher rates of cesarean delivery and medically induced preterm birth. In contrast, recent clinical research has highlighted the potential of Chinese patent medicines (CPMs) as an effective alternative treatment. These studies show that CPMs may help lower blood pressure, reduce 24-h urinary protein levels, and improve pregnancy outcomes.

Objectives: To investigate the clinical characteristics of deep infiltrating endometriosis (DIE), summarize the experiences in its diagnosis and management, and identify potential peripheral blood indicators associated with the severity of pelvic adhesions.

Methods: Clinical data were collected from 185 patients with pathologically confirmed DIE admitted to Wuxi Maternal and Child Health Hospital between January 2015 and December 2024. A retrospective analysis was conducted on the general information, perioperative conditions, postoperative pregnancy outcomes, and recurrence status in patients with DIE.

Perinatal depression and anxiety can be experienced simultaneously and change over time. This study aimed to explore the independent and joint developmental trajectories and predictors of perinatal depression and anxiety. From January 2022 to December 2023, a total of 1062 pregnant women from Affiliated Women's Hospital of Jiangnan University were surveyed for depression and anxiety symptoms using the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) and Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale (GAD-7) in early pregnancy (T1, 0-13 weeks), mid-term pregnancy (T2, 14-27 weeks), late pregnancy (T3, 28-41 weeks), and 42 days postpartum (T4).

Background: HELLP (Hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, and low platelets) syndrome is a dangerous obstetric condition that is in great need of simple and inexpensive non-invasive early predictors, but it has been poorly studied. This study was conducted to investigate the predictive role of serum gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase to platelet ratio (GPR) during pregnancy in HELLP syndrome and its adverse pregnancy outcomes.

Methods: This was a retrospective study in a tertiary hospital.

Ovarian cancer is a common malignant tumor in the female reproductive system. Paclitaxel resistance is the primary cause of treatment failure in patients with ovarian cancer. Therefore, elucidating the mechanisms by which ovarian cancer develops paclitaxel resistance is crucial for achieving better therapeutic outcomes.

Introduction: The aim of the study was to report the global, regional, and national burden of retinoblastoma between 1990 and 2021, by age, sex, and sociodemographic index (SDI).

Methods: We leveraged the Global Burden of Disease 2021 Study to elucidate the epidemiological landscape of retinoblastoma, encompassing prevalence, incidence, mortality, and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) across 204 nations and territories spanning the period from 1990 to 2021. The SDI was employed to evaluate the interplay between socioeconomic development and the burden of retinoblastoma.

This study aimed to identify proteins associated with high-fat diet patients and investigate their relationship with this dietary pattern. Five hyperlipidemia female patients and five normal individuals were included as the experiment and control groups, respectively. Blood samples were collected from both groups, and bioinformatics tools were employed for gene ontology annotation, KEGG pathway annotation, GO enrichment analysis, pathway enrichment analysis, and protein clustering to pinpoint genes, proteins, and pathways relevant to high-fat diet patients.

Background: Hyperglycemia is closely related to adverse pregnancy outcomes including pre-eclampsia (PE), a life-threatening complication with a substantial morbidity and mortality. However, the pathogenesis of abnormal placentation in gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM)-associated PE remains elusive.

Method: Here we isolated exosomes from the human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) treated with normal level of glucose (NG) and high levels of glucose (HG).

Background: m6A-RNA modification mediated by the N6-methyladenosine RNA methylation-related molecule methyltransferase-like 3 has been implicated in the progression of endometriosis. However, the functions of other m6A regulators, especially in ovarian endometriosis, remain unknown.

Methods: Three datasets (GSE7305, GSE7307, and GSE37837) with diagnosed ovarian endometriosis were extracted from the Gene Expression Omnibus database.

Diagnosis of major depressive disorder (MDD) is perplexing due to its multifactorial etiologies. Here, we isolated exosomes from the peripheral blood of MDD patients and healthy control subjects for mass spectrometry-based label-free quantitative proteomics. We identified that SERPINF1 is significantly diminished in the peripheral blood-derived exosomes of MDD patients compared to the healthy control subjects.

Swine are considered as 'mixing vessels' of influenza A viruses and play an important role in the generation of novel influenza pandemics. In this study, we described that the H3N2 swine influenza (swH3N2) viruses currently circulating in pigs in Guangdong province carried six internal genes from 2009 pandemic H1N1 virus (pmd09), and their antigenicity was obviously different from that of current human H3N2 influenza viruses or recommended vaccine strains (A/Guangdong/1194/2019, A/Hong Kong/4801/2014). These swH3N2 viruses preferentially bonded to the human-like receptors, and efficiently replicated in human, canine and swine cells.

Currently, H9N2 avian influenza viruses (H9N2 AIVs) globally circulate in poultry and have acquired some adaptation to mammals. However, it is not clear what the molecular basis is for the variation in receptor-binding features of the H9N2 AIVs. The receptor-binding features of 92 H9N2 AIVs prevalent in China during 1994-2017 were characterized through solid-phase ELISA assay and reverse genetics.

Background: The etiology of Autoimmune thyroid disease (AITD) in pediatric age is multifactorial and mainly implicated with immune disorder. Previous studies have reported that interleukin-21 (IL-21) and vitamin D play crucial roles in autoimmune diseases. We investigated the correlation between IL and 21 and 25(OH)D and their potential role in the pathogenesis of AITD.

Article Synopsis
  • The H9N2 avian influenza virus (AIV) poses a public health threat, with a study analyzing eight strains from poultry in South China between 2017-2018.
  • These strains belong to the Y280-like lineage and share similarities with human H7N9 viruses, increasing concern for potential human infection.
  • Laboratory results show these viruses can replicate in mammalian cells and can effectively infect mice and pigs, indicating a heightened risk of transmission from birds to mammals, including humans.
