Terminal Glaucoma Mimicking Posterior Cerebral Artery Infarction: A Case Report.

Visual disturbances such as homonymous hemianopia and visual hallucinations often suggest central nervous system pathology, particularly occipital lobe infarction. However, ocular conditions may present similarly and lead to misdiagnosis. We report the case of a 73-year-old man presenting with right-sided visual field deficits and visual hallucinations, initially suggestive of posterior cerebral artery stroke.

Acute Cauda Equina Syndrome Following Spinal Anesthesia During Cesarean Section: A Case Report.

This case report aims to discuss the prompt recognition and the possible mechanism of acute cauda equina syndrome (CES) following intrathecal bupivacaine administration for cesarean section. A 30-year-old primigravida developed sudden-onset bilateral lower-extremity weakness, numbness, and paresthesia, along with urinary and bowel incontinence, after an uncomplicated cesarean delivery under spinal anesthesia. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed engorgement and gadolinium enhancement of the cauda equina nerve roots, consistent with a diagnosis of CES.

In the simulation analysis of large-scale industrial instruments such as machine tools, in order to ensure simulation accuracy, model parameter correction is necessary. This research presents a machine tool model correction method assisted by the dynamic evolution sequence (DES). The method first introduces a dynamic evolution method to generate a uniformly distributed sequence, replacing the traditional sequence used in Kriging surrogate models, and constructing a more accurate Kriging surrogate model for machine tools.

Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) remains a major concern in swine production. This study investigates the molecular epidemiology of lineage 1 and lineage 3 PRRSV-2 in Taiwan between 2018 and 2024. A total of 43,977 samples were collected across 15 counties in Taiwan, and 13,611 tested positive for PRRSV by real-time PCR.

Transmissible gastroenteritis virus (TGEV) infection induces diarrhea in piglets by targeting the small intestine, especially the jejunum and ileum. However, dynamic changes in the gut microbiota and metabolome during TGEV infection remain unclear. This study investigated these alterations and their association with intestinal damage in weaned pigs during early TGEV infection.

This study investigated common diagnoses from surgical biopsies of domestic rabbits () in Taiwan and examined the role of leporipoxvirus in tumor pathogenesis. Biopsy specimens from 70 rabbits collected between 2014 and 2023 were retrospectively analyzed, yielding 85 diagnoses. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was performed to detect leporipoxvirus in formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissues diagnosed with fibroma, fibrosarcoma, or myxosarcoma.

The tip-of-the-pen (TOP) is a phenomenon in which individuals fail to completely retrieve the orthographic information of a known character, and mainly occurs in Mandarin (a non-alphabetic language in which the orthography is largely independent of the phonology). The present study examined whether and how long-term language experience and brief exposure to non-target language affected TOP rates in Mandarin handwriting. In Experiment 1, high and low proficiency Mandarin-English bilinguals completed a Mandarin character dictation task before and after watching a short English movie.

A novel demodulation scheme for a point-type fiber sensor is designed for salinity concentration monitoring based on a Sagnac interferometer (SI) composed of a tapered polarization-maintaining fiber (TPMF) and optical time stretching technology. The SI, constructed using a PMF with a taper region of 5.92 μm and an overall length of 30 cm, demonstrated a notable enhancement in the evanescent field, which intensifies the interaction between the light field and external salinity.

The cross-script cognate effect in spoken and written second language production: A study based on Chinese-English bilinguals.

Previous studies using cognates with the same writing system have found cognate facilitation effect in the lexical processes of spoken and typewritten productions and cognate interference effect in the sub-lexical process of typewritten production. This study focused on cross-script cognates, Chinese-English, which have different writing systems, and explored cognate effects based on the input and output modalities by using a Chinese-English translation task. Experiment 1 was under visual input modality and investigated the cross-script cognate effect in all three output modalities: spoken, typewritten and handwritten.
