Background: Prevalence and spread of misinformation are a concern for the exacerbation of vaccine hesitancy and a resulting reduction in vaccine intent. However, few studies have focused on how vaccine misinformation diffuses online, who is responsible for the diffusion, and the mechanisms by which that happens. In addition, researchers have rarely investigated this in non-Western contexts particularly vulnerable to misinformation.

Background: While rapid digitalization has helped society cope with the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic, will it bring health equity to the digitally disadvantaged? Limited studies have explored how individuals' digital activities may impact their psychological well-being during the pandemic and whether these effects vary across different sociodemographic groups.

Objective: This study aims to examine how individuals' digital activities influence their psychological well-being and whether socioeconomic status moderates the relationship between digitalization and mental health.

Methods: This study was based on a sample of 2170 residents surveyed in Hubei, the early epicenter of the pandemic in China, between March 23 and April 9, 2020.

Hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) are the primary fibrogenic cells in the liver, and their activation plays a crucial role in the development and progression of hepatic fibrosis. Here, we report that retinoid X receptor-alpha (RXR), a unique member of the nuclear receptor superfamily, is a key modulator of HSC activation and liver fibrosis. RXR exerts its effects by modulating calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase kinase (CaMKK)-mediated activation of AMP-activated protein kinase-alpha (AMPK).

This study sought to define the potential infection risk zone of scrub typhus in Gannan and investigate the factors that contribute to this risk zone. Based on the distribution data of scrub typhus cases and environmental factors in Gannan from 2015-2021, a maximum entropy ecological niche modelling was employed to forecast potential risk areas in the region. The influence of each environmental factor on the risk was quantified using a geographical detector.

To evaluate the development and application of a kind of oil peony by chromatographic analysis of the main active components of the waste moutan pods (MP).The methods adopted in this paper, firstly, the quality evaluation method of MP is established by HPLC-DAD-ESI-MS/MS; The second is to compare the types and contents of the main active components of moutan barks (Chinese Pharmacopoeia, MB) with those of the medicinal parts of peony used in oil. HPLC fingerprint method for the extract of moutan pods (EMP) was established.

Hydroquinone (HQ) is extensively utilized in various industrial applications and as a dermatological agent; however, its metabolic processes and toxicological effects, particularly in the liver, remain insufficiently understood. This study aimed to investigate the impact of different doses of HQ on liver injury and lipid metabolism in C57BL/6 mice, with a specific focus on the SCD1/AMPK signaling pathway. We administered HQ at doses of 0, 12.

Context: Since the outbreak of COVID-19 in late 2019, the transmission dynamics and clinical presentation patterns of influenza A (Flu A) virus have undergone changes.

Objectives: This article conducted a comparative analysis in clinical characteristics and laboratory results of pediatric patients with Flu A before, during, and after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Methods: The medical records of 885 children hospitalized with Flu A virus infection at a tertiary hospital in Guangdong Province, China, were retrospectively analyzed.

Purpose: Terminal nucleotidyltransferase 5A (TENT5A), recently predicted as a non-canonical poly(A) polymerase, is critically involved in several human disorders including retinitis pigmentosa, cancer and obesity. However, the exact biological role of TENT5A in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) has not been elucidated.

Methods: The transcription level of TENT5A and clinical correlation were analyzed using the LIRI-JP cohort, the TCGA-LIHC cohort, and clinical tissue samples of HCC patients in our laboratory.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to explore differences in clinical characteristics and hospital outcomes between male and female patients undergoing surgery for acute type A aortic dissection (AAAD).
  • It included 1137 patients from a cardiac surgery department, analyzing data for outcomes like in-hospital mortality and postoperative complications, with findings showing some differences in symptom presentation and complication rates.
  • Ultimately, the in-hospital mortality rates were similar for both sexes, but females had higher rates of postoperative arrhythmia, while males faced more acute kidney injury and gastrointestinal hemorrhage, highlighting the need for sex-specific considerations in treatment approaches.

  • Scrub typhus is a serious public health concern, and understanding the specific factors contributing to its occurrence is essential for effective prevention and treatment in the Gannan region.
  • The study employed various statistical methods, including spatial autocorrelation and regression modeling, to analyze the incidence of scrub typhus over a 14-year period, identifying key influencing factors like DEM, temperature, and wind speed.
  • Findings revealed that environmental factors, especially the normalized difference vegetation index, as well as economic indicators like GDP, significantly affect scrub typhus incidence, with variations noted across different areas within Gannan.

There is still controversial or limited evidence on whether sex differences exist in clinical characteristics, the risk of contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN), and other clinical outcomes of patients who received coronary angiography (CAG) and/or percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). The aim of this study was to characterize the effect of sex on clinical characteristics and outcomes of patients undergoing CAG and/or PCI. A total of 3,340 consecutive patients undergoing CAG and/or PCI from May 2017 to December 2022 were assessed in this retrospective study.
