Prostate cancer (PCa) is the most prevalent malignant tumor in males, and many patients remain at risk of biochemical recurrence (BCR) following initial treatment. Accurate prediction of BCR is vital for effective clinical management and treatment planning. This study evaluates the effectiveness of machine learning (ML) models in predicting BCR among prostate cancer patients, comparing their performance to traditional prognostic methods.

Background: Prostate cancer (PCa) is an important cause of fatality in older men, with inflammation and metabolic disorders as risk factors for PCa. This study examined how systemic inflammation, measured by inflammatory indices, interacts with the cardiometabolic index (CMI), a marker of obesity and dyslipidemia, to influence the risk of developing PCa.

Methods: This study consisted of 1,591 male patients recruited from the Department of Urology at the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University between 2022 and 2024.

Background: Prostate cancer (PCa) is a common malignancy among men worldwide, and its risk is strongly associated with obesity, especially visceral obesity. Visceral obesity has been assessed by the visceral adiposity index (VAI), cardiometabolic index (CMI), and lipid accumulation product (LAP), but their associations with PCa remain underexplored. This study investigated the relationship between these visceral obesity indicators and PCa risk.

Morel-Lavallée lesions (MLLs) are uncommon closed soft tissue injuries often arising from blunt trauma, characterized by a separation between the subcutaneous tissue and the underlying fascia, leading to fluid accumulation. This case report aims to enhance the understanding of ultrasonographic features associated with MLLs, supported by data from a patient with a confirmed MLL verified through surgical intervention or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). A 45-year-old male presented with a history of lower leg trauma, sustained approximately 18 days prior to the initial ultrasonographic assessment.

A water-soluble sulfated polysaccharide, SFAP-4, was isolated from Sargassum fusiforme via ion-exchange and gel-filtration column chromatography. It comprised a large amount of fucose (Fuc), minor amount of galactose (Gal), and small amounts of glucose (Glc), mannose (Man), rhammnose (Rha), xylose (Xyl) and glucuronic acid (GlcA). Structural analysis showed that SFAP-4 has very complex structure.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a major global health problem characterized by renal fibrosis, for which effective therapeutic options are still lacking. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have emerged as potential candidates for treating fibrosis due to their paracrine effects. This study first compared the antifibrotic capacities of umbilical cord-derived MSCs (UCMSCs) and dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs).

Background: Anxiety disorders, depression and schizophrenia are the focus of global mental health attention, resulting in a significant number of disability-adjusted life years and a considerable social and economic burden. It's can affect the socioeconomic landscape as a result of experiencing a global epidemic. And rarely, different Socio-demographic Index (SDI) levels and Age-Period-Cohort (APC) have been used to evaluate the prevalence of mental disorders worldwide.

Diquat is a widely used bipyridyl herbicide that is extensively applied in agricultural production and water management due to its high efficacy in weed control. However, its environmental persistence and the toxic effects it induces have raised widespread concern. Studies show that Diquat primarily enters the body through the digestive tract, leading to poisoning.

Introduction: Identifying predictive biomarkers for immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) treatment is critical for gastric cancer (GC) prognosis. C-X-C motif chemokine ligand 13(CXCL13) plays an important role in immune regulation by binding exclusively to its receptor CXCR5. However, its role, underlying mechanisms, and prognostic significance in ICI-treated GC patients remain controversial.

Objective: This study aims to retrospectively analyze the clinical efficacy of ankle arthrography-assisted modified ankle capsular repair for treating recurrent bunion cysts.

Methods: Clinical data from 16 cases of recurrent bunion cysts, treated between December 2021 and June 2024, were collected. All patients underwent intraoperative ankle arthrography with cyst excision, followed by ankle capsule repair based on the arthrography results.

Laser desorption ionization mass spectrometry (LDI-MS) is a critical platform for high-throughput nontargeted metabolomics analysis in clinical diagnosis. However, traditional organic matrices inherently suffer from background interference in the low-mass range and exhibit low sensitivity for small molecule detections. Heterostructure has been regarded as an effective structure for high charge carrier mobility and tunable band gaps, which can enhance ion transfer efficiency and photothermal conversion during the LDI-MS process.

Introduction: This study aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of Crisugabalin in patients with diabetic peripheral neuropathic pain (DPNP), with a focus on its rapid onset of action.

Methods: All the analyses in this study were based on data from a phase 2/3 adaptive randomized clinical trial that enrolled 596 patients. Participants were categorized into four treatment groups according to the intervention received: Crisugabalin 40 mg/day, Crisugabalin 80 mg/day, placebo, and Pregabalin 300 mg/day.

Purpose: Insulin resistance and prostate cancer (PCa) association results remain controversial. However, few studies have compared the role of various non-insulin-based insulin resistance (NI-IR) indices and mean platelet volume (MPV) in PCa.

Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study, the case group included 354 patients with PCa, and the control group included 1,498 non-PCa participants.

Objective: Upper respiratory tract infections are among the most prevalent respiratory diseases, imposing both financial and physical burdens on affected individuals. Roxithromycin (ROX), a primary drug for treating bacterial-induced respiratory tract infections, is typically administered orally due to its hydrophobic nature. However, the non-specific distribution resulting from oral administration reduces bioavailability and can cause side effects such as diarrhea.

Introduction: Increasing evidence indicates that cellular senescence is a significant risk factor for atherosclerosis (AS).

Methods: In the present study, we used an apolipoprotein E knockout (ApoE) mouse model to address the effect of sodium nitrate on senescence accompanied by atherosclerosis. After sodium nitrate intervention, the degree of AS pathological and cellular senescence changes was evaluated in mouse aortic.

Background: Prostate cancer is one of the most frequent malignancies in the world, with significant morbidity and death rates. Identifying novel biomarkers is critical to reducing morbidity and mortality from the illness today. Although lipids have been linked to an increased risk of prostate cancer, it is unclear if the non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (NHDL-C) to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) ratio (NHHR) is related to prostate cancer.

Approximately 40% of marketed drugs and 75% of invested drugs in the pharmaceutical field are poorly soluble hydrophobic drugs with minimal solubility in water which make them difficult to be absorbed by the body and significantly limiting their applications. Among chemotherapeutic agents, numerous antitumor drugs such as platinum compounds, camptothecin, paclitaxel and others are also restricted in processing and preparation due to solubility issues. Therefore, improving the solubility and enhancing the therapeutic efficacy of drugs have always been significant research topics in current pharmaceutics.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to investigate changes in the oral microbiome of children with hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) caused by enterovirus A 71 (EV-A71) compared to healthy children.
  • Using 16 S rRNA gene sequencing, researchers analyzed oral swabs from 80 children, revealing significant differences in microbial diversity and composition between the two groups.
  • Results showed that children with EV-A71 HFMD had reduced microbial diversity, particularly a decrease in the genera Capnocytophaga and Leptotrichia, indicating potential links between oral microbiota and HFMD.
