Background: Entomophagous fungi (EPF) not only directly kill insect pests, but also colonize plants and improve their resistance against pests. However, most previous research has focused on Beauveria bassiana and Metarhizium anisopliae, and there are few reports on whether other EPF can enhance resistance against pests via endogenous colonization. Herein, an EPF strain was isolated from diseased larvae of Spodoptera litura in a soybean field, and subjected to genome-wide sequencing at the chromosomal level.

Materials (Basel)

January 2024

The College of Biological and Agricultural Engineering, Jilin University, 5988 Renmin Street, Changchun 130025, China.

In this paper, Ni60/WC wear-resistant coatings have been created on the Ti6Al4V substrate surface using a pre-layered powder laser cladding method by deploying various scanning speeds of 8, 10, 12, and 14 mm/s. The coatings are characterized through X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and a high-speed reciprocating fatigue wear tester. It is found that the phase composition of the coating comprises the synthesized, hard phase TiC and TiB, the silicides WSi and W5Si, and NiTi and γ-Ni solid solutions.

Deoxynivalenol (DON) is one of the most common sources of fungal toxins in fish feed, posing a significant risk to the immune and reproductive systems of fish. Microalgal astaxanthin (MIA), a potent antioxidant derived from microalgae, confers multifarious advantages upon piscine organisms, notably encompassing its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant prowess. Herein, we investigated the potential of MIA in ameliorating the immunotoxicity of DON on carp (Cyprinus carpio L.

Hypovirulence-associated mycovirus epidemics cause pathogenicity degeneration of Beauveria bassiana in the field.

Virol J

November 2023

Institute of Plant Protection, Jilin Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Jilin Key Laboratory of Agricultural Microbiology, Key Laboratory of Integrated Pest Management on Crops in Northeast China, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Areas, Changchun, 130033, People's Republic of China.

Background: The entomogenous fungus Beauveria bassiana is used as a biological insecticide worldwide, wild B. bassiana strains with high pathogenicity in the field play an important role in controlling insect pests via not only screening of highly virulent strains but also natural infection, but the pathogenicity degeneration of wild strains severely affected aforementioned effects. Previous studies have showed that multiple factors contributed to this phenomenon.

Chemical, Physical, and Degradation Characteristics of Ryegrass Cultivars Grown in Autumn and Winter for Dairy Cows.

Animals (Basel)

October 2023

The Innovation Centre of Ruminant Precision Nutrition and Smart Farming, College of Animal Science and Technology, Jilin Agricultural Science and Technology University, Jilin 132109, China.

During winter and early spring, pasture supply is usually lower than the demand in New Zealand dairy farming systems and thus the 'autumn saved pastures' (stockpiling) are introduced to fill the gap. This study aimed to investigate the chemical, physical, and degradation characteristics of ryegrass pastures, the predominant forage in New Zealand, grown in autumn and winter. To serve as 'autumn saved pasture', nine ryegrass cultivars, comprising three types (three perennial, three hybrid, and three Italian), were grown in late autumn (Autumn) and early winter (Winter) and harvested after 7 and 9 weeks of regrowth, respectively.
