Patients with primary plasma cell leukemia (pPCL), particularly those with extramedullary disease (EMD), face a poor prognosis even with chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)-T cell therapy. This case report describes a patient with relapsed/refractory pPCL and life-threatening malignant pleural effusion (PE) treated with intrapleural CAR-T cells targeting B-cell maturation antigens. CAR-T cell expansion within the PE was observed, along with a rapid reduction in leukemia cell count and PE volume.

Antigen-induced clustering of cell surface receptors, including T cell receptors and Fc receptors, represents a widespread mechanism in cell signalling activation. However, most naturally occurring antigens, such as tumour-associated antigens, stimulate limited receptor clustering and on-target responses owing to insufficient density. Here we repurpose proximity labelling, a method used to biotinylate and identify spatially proximal proteins, to amplify designed probes as synthetic antigen clusters on the cell surface.

The electrolyte-electrode interface serves as the foundation for a myriad of chemical and physical processes. In battery chemistry, the formation of a well-known solid-electrolyte interphase (SEI) plays a pivotal role in ensuring the reversible operations of rechargeable lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). However, characterizing the precise chemical composition of the low crystallinity and highly sensitive SEI presents a formidable challenge.

Reciprocity is considered one of the vital mechanisms that sustain the evolution of cooperative behavior. However, free-riding, where assistance is received but not reciprocated, poses a serious threat to reciprocity behavior, which relies on future payback. Previous theories proposed that third-party punishment plays a vital role in preventing free-riding behavior.

Objectives: Although lung cancer in never smokers (LCNSs) accounts for an estimated 25% of all lung cancer cases, the temporal trends in LCNS incidence and its broader epidemiological patterns remain poorly understood. Our study examines the temporal trends in LCNS incidence and analyses key epidemiological characteristics, specifically, the trends in mortality rates, survival rates and changes in age at onset to illuminate the reasons for temporal trends in LCNS incidence.
Design: Retrospective population-based cohort study.

Migraine is a complex neurological disorder influenced by multiple genetic susceptibility factors, yet current animal models fail to fully recapitulate its human-specific pathophysiology. In this study, we explored the potential mechanisms underlying migraine by examining functional abnormalities and molecular dysregulation in glutamatergic neurons derived from induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) of migraine patients. As key excitatory cells in the central nervous system, glutamatergic neurons are implicated in migraine through altered excitability, ion channel dysfunction, and dysregulation of nociceptive signaling molecules.

There is increasing evidence that nuclear receptor subfamily 1 group I member 3 (NR1I3) plays a significant role in the progression of many malignancies. However, it is unclear whether NR1I3 suppresses colorectal cancer (CRC) growth or alters gluconeogenesis. Western blotting, flow cytometry analysis, cell proliferation, colony formation assays, quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT‒PCR), gluconeogenesis tests, and animal models were used to examine the functional role of NR1I3 in CRC cells.

Background: The relationship between spousal depressive symptoms and cardiovascular risk remains understudied despite established links between individual depression and cardiovascular outcomes.
Methods: Using data from 6651 married Chinese adults (≥45 years) in the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (2011-2018), we examined associations between spousal depressive symptoms and incident cardiovascular disease (CVD) using Cox proportional hazards models. Cox models with penalized splines were performed to explore the dose-response relationship.

Recent advancements in artificial intelligence have significantly enhanced the efficiency of abdominal MRI segmentation, thereby improving the screening and diagnosis of liver diseases. However, accurate precise liver segmentation in MRI remains a challenging task due to the high variability in liver morphology and the limited availability of high-quality annotated datasets. To address these challenges, this study presents an advanced semi-supervised learning framework that integrates cross-teaching with pseudo-label generation and intra-batch entropy minimization.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is an aggressive cancer with poor prognosis, underscoring the need for novel therapeutic approaches. In this study, we investigate the role of Annexin A2 (ANXA2) in PDAC progression and its potential as a therapeutic target. Single-cell RNA sequencing of PDAC tissues identified distinct subpopulations of ductal cells, with elevated ANXA2 expression strongly correlating with poor patient prognosis.

We present a coordination-inspired strategy for assembling binary nanocrystal superlattices (BNSLs) using CdSe nanotetrapods as symmetry-encoding building blocks. Exploiting their intrinsic tetrahedral geometry, which mimics the sp hybridization of carbon atoms in a diamond lattice, we encode spatially defined binding sites that guide regioselective coassembly with spherical nanocrystals. By tuning the size ratio between components, we achieve both three-dimensional and two-dimensional BNSLs with long-range structural order.

Objective: We previously documented that exposure to a spectrum of elements is associated with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). However, there is a lack of mechanistic understanding as to how elemental mixtures contribute to the ASD development.

Building localized states with high quality factors in compact dynamic systems could enhance the performance of wave control devices such as elastic filters and high-precision sensing devices. Here, we report on the theoretical and experimental investigation of symmetry-protected bound states in the continuum (BICs) in a compressed metaplate. The proposed theory establishes a Bessel-zero-directed multipolarization design that enables precise modulation for the frequencies and modes of BICs.

Acoustic tweezers leverage acoustic radiation forces for noncontact manipulation. One of the core bottlenecks in multidimensional manipulation is the lack of a systematic design methodology, which prevents the generation of an acoustic field that simultaneously meets the collaborative control requirements of multi-degree-of-freedom forces and torques, making it difficult to achieve precise control under conditions of stable suspension, high-frequency rotation, and complex spatial constraints. To address this challenge, we develop an end-to-end inverse design methodology for acoustic tweezers based on coding metasurfaces, establishing a dual-objective, dual-scale optimization paradigm.

Triple-negative breast cancers (TNBCs) lack predictive biomarkers to guide immunotherapy, especially during early-stage disease. To address this issue, we used single-cell RNA sequencing, bulk transcriptomics, and pathology assays on samples from 171 patients with early-stage TNBC receiving chemotherapy with or without immunotherapy. Our investigation identified an enriched subset of interferon (IFN)-induced CD8 T cells in early TNBC samples, which predict immunotherapy nonresponsiveness.

Partonic collectivity is one of the necessary signatures for the formation of quark-gluon plasma in high-energy nuclear collisions. Number of constituent quarks (NCQ) scaling has been observed for hadron elliptic flow v_{2} in top energy nuclear collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider and the LHC, and this has been theoretically suggested as strong evidence for partonic collectivity. In this Letter, a systematic analysis of v_{2} of π^{±}, K^{±}, K_{S}^{0}, p, and Λ in Au+Au collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=3.

Recent studies have shown that the glymphatic system plays a crucial role in driving hyperacute edema after ischemic stroke. This has sparked interest in understanding how this system changes in later phases of ischemic stroke. In this study, we utilized cisternal contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (CE-MRI) and immunofluorescence staining to investigate glymphatic system alterations at subacute and chronic phases of ischemic stroke.
