The lithium-carbon dioxide (Li-CO) battery is a promising energy storage technology that integrates CO utilization with energy storage and conversion. However, its development is hindered by slow reaction kinetics and insulating LiCO discharge products deposited at the cathode, which cause severe polarization and rapid capacity degradation. Herein, novel Cu-based catalysts with multiple active sites anchored on nitrogen-doped carbon (Cu/NC) are developed to achieve highly efficient Li-CO batteries.

Serum metabolomic characteristics and their predictive value for ninety-day prognosis in patients with acute-on-chronic liver failure.

Background: Acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) is characterized by severe metabolic disturbances; however, the specific metabolomic features and their predictive value on 90-day prognosis remain unclear.

Methods: Overall, 5,728 patients from the 1999-2014 US National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) cycles and 3,456 from the 2005-2010 China Kailuan cycles were included. TyG was calculated as the logarithmic product of the fasting triglyceride and glucose concentrations.

Aims: Lipid-lowering drugs are commonly prescribed for prevention of cardiovascular disease (CVD), but their efficacy in people aged ≥75 years is less understood. This population-based cohort study aimed to examine the association of lipid-lowering drug treatment with all-cause and cardiovascular mortality among people aged ≥75 years and whether the association, if existent, varied with patient characteristics.

Methods And Results: A nationally representative sample of 6409 adults aged ≥75 years and without CVD at baseline was drawn from the Third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES III) conducted between 1988 and 1994 and the 10 continuous NHANES cycles between 1999-2000 and 2017-18 in the USA.

The burden and trend prediction of atrial fibrillation and flutter associated with lead exposure: insights from the global burden of disease study 2021.

Background: Atrial fibrillation and flutter (AF/AFL) are increasingly recognized as major contributors to global cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Emerging evidence implicates environmental lead exposure as a modifiable risk factor for AF/AFL, yet the global burden and trends of AF/AFL attributable to lead exposure remain poorly characterized.

Methods: We used data from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2021 to estimate mortality, disability-adjusted life years (DALYs), and temporal trends in AF/AFL attributable to lead exposure from 1990 to 2021, with projections to 2030.

Reducing radiomics errors in nasopharyngeal cancer via deep learning-based synthetic CT generation from CBCT.

Purpose: This study investigates the impact of cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) image quality on radiomic analysis and evaluates the potential of deep learning-based enhancement to improve radiomic feature accuracy in nasopharyngeal cancer (NPC).

Methods: The CBAMRegGAN model was trained on 114 paired CT and CBCT datasets from 114 nasopharyngeal cancer patients to enhance CBCT images, with CT images as ground truth. The dataset was split into 82 patients for training, 12 for validation, and 20 for testing.

Physical inactivity is a major global public health concern, contributing to the rising burden of chronic diseases and mental health issues. Despite its known health benefits, physical activity levels remain insufficient, particularly among college students, posing significant risks to their physical and psychological well-being. To address this, a cross-sectional study with 406 university students was conducted in Zhuhai, Guangdong, China, including 280 females and 126 males, all aged between 18 and 21.

Quantitative Evaluation of AI-based Organ Segmentation Across Multiple Anatomical Sites Using Eight Commercial Software Platforms.

Purpose: To evaluate organs-at-risk (OARs) segmentation variability across eight commercial AI-based segmentation software using independent multi-institutional datasets, and to provide recommendations for clinical practices utilizing AI-segmentation.

Methods: 160 planning CT image sets from four anatomical sites: head-and-neck, thorax, abdomen and pelvis were retrospectively pooled from three institutions. Contours for 31 OARs generated by the software were compared to clinical contours using multiple accuracy metrics, including: Dice similarity coefficient (DSC), 95 Percentile of Hausdorff distance (HD95), surface DSC, as well as relative added path length (RAPL) as an efficiency metric.

However, their quality is highly vulnerable to deterioration during frozen storage due to ice crystal formation, protein denaturation, and moisture loss. This review outlines the key challenges associated with freezing preservation and highlights the increasing interest in naturally derived saccharides as safe and effective alternatives to conventional cryoprotectants such as glycerol and dimethyl sulfoxide.

Objective: To explore the risk factors for peripheral neuropathy (PNP) and F-wave abnormality during one-year rehabilitation for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Methods: This prospective cohort study included patients with COVID-19 who were discharged from Shijiazhuang People's Hospital after treatment and routine rehabilitation between December 2020 and April 2021. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was used to analyze the independent risk factors for PNP and F-wave abnormality.

Non-Pharmacological interventions for psychological stress reactions in disaster nursing rescue workers: a scoping review.

Background: Disasters exert a significant negative impact on the mental health of medical staff. Although many non-pharmacological interventions exist, there currently is a lack of literature that systematically summarizes these interventions. Therefore, this study aims to review existing literature on the use of non-pharmacological interventions to address psychological stress reactions in disaster nursing rescue workers.

NKD1 enhances colon cancer progression by inhibiting the autophagic degradation of MYC.

NKD1 is a known suppressor of the Wnt/β-catenin pathway. However, our previous study revealed that NKD1 could promote the proliferation and migration of colon cancer cells, enhancing colon cancer progression via unknown mechanisms. In the present study, we found that peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor δ (PPARδ) is a transcription factor of the NKD1 gene.
