Selenium (Se) enhances plant growth and As accumulation in As-hyperaccumulator Pteris vittata, but its effects on As-hyperaccumulators Pteris multifida and Pteris cretica are unknown. Here, they were exposed to 50 μM arsenate (As) plus 1.25 (Se) or 2.

Here, we demonstrate that the chalcone compound isobavachalcone (IBC) inhibits α-Syn aggregation and remodels mature fibrils into fragmented filaments. IBC exhibits dose-dependent inhibition of wild-type α-Syn and PD-linked mutants (E46K, H50Q, G51D and A53T) while effectively abrogating seeded fibrillization.

Phytate (salts of -inositol-1,2,3,4,5,6-hexakisphosphate) constitutes a large portion of the organic phosphorus in most soils, but its strong interactions with soil minerals and organic matter limit its availability to plants. Phytate can be used by plants only after it is desorbed from the soil matrix, with the inorganic P being released by phytases via cleavage of its phosphomonoester bonds. While plant phytases function primarily in its internal phytate remobilization, the role of microbial phytases in facilitating phytate-P utilization by plants remains poorly understood.

In 2024, the World Health Organization (WHO) classified carbapenem-resistant (CRE) as a critical-priority pathogen and carbapenem-resistant (CRPA) as a high-priority pathogen. This study aimed to evaluate the performance of meropenem (MEM), imipenem (IPM), cefepime (FEP), and cefoperazone/sulbactam (SCF) using the BD Phoenix™ NMIC-413 antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) panel (NMIC-413 panel) for CRE and CRPA at Nanfang Hospital, China.

Renal fibrosis, developed from persistent inflammation, is worsened by M2 macrophages, yet the precise mechanisms underlying macrophage M2 polarization remain unclear. In this study, we investigated the role of Kv1.

Purple acid phosphatases (PAP) can hydrolyze a wide range of P, playing an important role in P utilization by plants. In this study, we investigated a novel secretary PvPAP1 from the As-hyperaccumulator Pteris vittata, which can effectively utilize exogenous P, including adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and phytate.

However, the underlying mechanisms of As-enhanced plant growth are unknown. We used untargeted metabolomics to investigate the potential metabolites and associated metabolic pathways regulating As-enhanced plant growth in P.

Rationale And Objectives: To evaluate the image quality of low-dose CT colonography (CTC) using deep learning-based reconstruction (DLR) compared to iterative reconstruction (IR).
Materials And Methods: Adults included in the study were divided into four groups according to body mass index (BMI). Routine-dose (RD: 120 kVp) CTC images were reconstructed with IR (RD-IR); low-dose (LD: 100kVp) images were reconstructed with IR (LD-IR) and DLR (LD-DLR).
As a class of persistent organic pollutants (POPs), the spatial and temporal distribution of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in seawater is important for environmental assessment. Surface water samples were collected from 35 stations during summer and 36 stations during autumn of 2020 in the Bohai Bay. The concentration, composition, distribution and sources of PCBs were analyzed to assess the ecological impact of PCBs.

However, inhibitors of TWIK2 channel are currently in an early stage of development, and the molecular determinants underlying the chemical modulation of TWIK2 channel remain unexplored. In this study, we identified NPBA and the synthesized derivative NPBA-4 potently and selectively inhibited TWIK2 channel by using whole-cell patch clamp techniques.

To achieve accurate selection and synchronous imaging of blood vessels and lymph, a speckle spectrum contrast method (SSC) based on spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) is proposed in this Letter. In this method, the time-lapse optical coherence tomography (OCT) intensity signal is transformed to the Fourier frequency domain. By analyzing the frequency spectrum of the time-lapse OCT intensity signal, a parameter called SSC signal, which represents the ratio of different intervals of the high frequency to the low frequency, is utilized to extract and contrast different types of the vessels in the biological tissues.

As a class of pseudo-persistent organic pollutants, the spatial and temporal distribution of Pharmaceuticals and Personal Care Products (PPCPs) is particularly important to the ecological environment, and it will be imperfect to assess the ecological risk of PPCPs for the lack of systematic investigation of their distribution in different season. 14 typical PPCPs were selected to analyze the spatial and temporal distribution in the Bohai Bay by combining online solid-phase extraction (SPE) and HPLC-MS/MS techniques in this study, and their ecological risks to aquatic organisms were assessed by risk quotients (RQs) and concentration addition (CA) model.

The acute toxic effects of pristine and aged polystyrene (P-PS and A-PS) and their leaching solutions (L-PS) on microalgae Skeletonema costatum were investigated by measuring algal density and growth inhibition rate (IR), chlorophyll concentration and photosynthetic efficiency (Fv/Fm) over 96 h. Total protein (TP), superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) and malondialdehyde (MDA) were measured to analyze the oxidative damage to microalgae by microplastics and their leachates. Hydrodynamic diameter of microplastics in seawater, FITR and SEM images were used to study the changes of polystyrene during aging.

The computational results revealed that the [3 + 2] annulation sequence could be ruled out, due to a difficult Knoevenagel condensation of aromatic aldehydes and active methylenes. The reaction proceeds through a [4 + 1] annulation pathway, which involves a phosphine-catalysed MBH-type reaction followed by a [1,5]-proton shift and dehydration to afford vinyl phosphonium intermediates as four-carbon synthons in the annulation reaction.
