Both programmed death-1 (PD-1) and programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) are important proteins in cancer immunotherapy. Soluble forms (sPD-1 and sPD-L1) have potential for determining treatment and prognosis monitoring. However, there is a lack of detection methods for point-of-care testing (POCT) of these two proteins, so a low-cost rapid detection platform is urgently needed.

Epilepsy detection and focus location are urgent issues that need to be solved in epilepsy research. A cortex conformable and fine spatial accuracy electrocorticogram (ECoG) sensor array, especially for real-time detection of multicortical functional regions and delineating epileptic focus remains a challenge. Here, we fabricated a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS)-parylene hybrid, flexible micro-ECoG electrode array.

The sluggish charge transport kinetics that exist in the energy storage process of all-solid-state supercapacitors (ASSSCs) can be improved by designing open hierarchical porous structures for binder-free electrodes. Herein, a template-directed strategy is developed to fabricate open hierarchical porous Ni-Co-Zn-P nanoplate arrays (NCZP) through phosphating the electrodeposited NiCo-LDH nanosheets loaded on a template. At first, porous conductive NiZn alloy nanoplate arrays are rationally devised as the template by a strong magnetic field (SMF)-assisted electrodeposition.

Severe traction injuries after stretch to peripheral nerves are common and challenging to repair. The nerve guidance conduits (NGCs) are promising in the regeneration and functional recovery after nerve injuries. To enhance the repair of severe nerve traction injuries, in this study KHIFSDDSSE (KHI) peptides were grafted on a porous and micropatterned poly(D,L-lactide-co-caprolactone) (PLCL) film (MPLCL), which was further loaded with a nerve growth factor (NGF).

Background: Coronary heart disease (CHD), sarcopenia and depression are common disorders that markedly impair quality of life and impose a huge financial burden on society. They are also frequently comorbid, exacerbating condition and worsening prognosis. This study aimed to investigate the additive effects of CHD and sarcopenia on the risk of new onset depressive symptoms in older adults.

Objective: To evaluate the clinical characteristics and prognosis of TBI patients from 2016 to 2019 admitted to Port Moresby General Hospital (PMGH) of Papua New Guinea (PNG) and compare the results with previous researches to analyze current clinical characteristics and prognosis.

Methods: A retrospective study was performed on 389 TBI patients in Port Moresby General Hospital (PMGH) over a 48-month period (from January 2016 to December 2019). The clinical and radiographic data were collected.

A novel bacterium, designated BD-1, was isolated from a sludge sample. Cells of the novel Gram-stain-negative strain were identified to be facultative anaerobic, non-motile and short rod-shaped. Growth occurred at 15-37 °C (optimum, 30 °C), pH 5.

Intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC), the second most common primary liver cancer, is a fatal malignancy with a poor prognosis and only very limited therapeutic options. Although molecular targeted therapy is emerged as a promising treatment strategy, resistance to molecular-targeted therapy occurs inevitably, which represents a major clinical challenge. In this study, we confirmed that mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) signaling is the most significantly affected pathways in ICC.

We aim to explore the expression and function of long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) ATP2B1-AS1 in a cerebral ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury. In this study, we established a middle cerebral artery occlusion/reperfusion (MCAO/IR) rat model and an OGD/R PC12 cell model to evaluate the expression and role of ATP2B1-AS1 in the cerebral I/R injury. We found that the expression of ATP2B1-AS1 was upregulated in both and cerebral I/R injury models.

PM pollution has gradually attracted people's attention due to its important negative impact on public health in recent years. The influence of anthropogenic emission factors on PM concentrations is more complicated, but their relative individual impact on different emission sectors remains unclear. With the aid of the geographic detector model (GeoDetector), this study evaluated the impacts of anthropogenic emissions from different sectors on the PM concentrations of major cities in China.

The precombustion washing and washability of coal are increasingly gaining attention as a clean coal technology in China. In this study, the raw coal was collected from different coal seams in the south of Qinshui Coalfield, and flotation experiments were carried out in the laboratory after simple crushing. X-ray diffraction was used for qualitative analysis of the minerals in coal, and mineral morphology and disseminated particle size were measured with the help of an optical microscope.

Alternative lengthening of telomeres (ALT) is a homologous recombination-based telomere maintenance mechanism activated in 10-15% of human cancers. Although significant progress has been made, the key regulators of the ALT pathway and its role in cancer development remain elusive. Bioinformatics methods were used to predict novel telomere-associated proteins (TAPs) by analysis of large-scale ChIP-Seq data.

Because of their ultra-high surface area, large porosity and excellent structural tailorability, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are considered as outstanding candidates among sensing materials for hazardous gas detection. However, most of MOFs-based sensing films show weak film adhesion and low conductivity due to the poor formation ability of MOFs films by traditional sensor fabrication methods as well as the intrinsic insulating character of these MOFs. In this work, we propose a novel strategy to directly grow robust gas-sensing films based on pristine MOFs arrays (ZIF-67 nanosheets) in-situ on the surface of ceramic substrates.

In this paper, we study the hedging effectiveness of crude oil futures on the basis of the lower partial moments (LPMs). An improved kernel density estimation method is proposed to estimate the optimal hedge ratio. We investigate crude oil price hedging by contributing to the literature in the following twofold: First, unlike the existing studies which focus on univariate kernel density method, we use bivariate kernel density to calculate the estimated LPMs, wherein the two bandwidths of the bivariate kernel density are not limited to the same, which is our main innovation point.

Gradual changes in microbial communities in a human body after death can be used to determine postmortem interval (PMI). In this study, gut microflora samples were collected from the vermiform appendix and the transverse colon of human cadavers with PMIs between 5 and 192 h. The results revealed that the appendix might be an excellent intestinal sampling site and the appendix flora had an inferred succession rule during human body decomposition.

Vacuolar protein sorting-associated protein 28 (VPS28), one of the four cytosolic proteins comprising the endosomal sorting complex required for the transport I (ESCRT-I) component, has been reported to be linked to various cancers. However, less evidence is available regarding the involvement of VPS28 in breast cancer. To this end, this study focused on exploring the function of VPS28 in breast cancer cells using the analysis.

Rice production in China is constrained by excessive water consumption, labor shortage, large environmental footprint, and low economic profit. Rice ratooning is a promising practice to increase famers' profit with higher resource use efficiency and less environmental impact compared with other rice cropping systems. However, there is limited information on the differences in energy use efficiency, water and labor productivity, environmental footprint, and economic return between main crop (MC) and ratoon crop (RC) in this cropping system.
