Objectives: Disruption of redox homeostasis and ferroptosis have been increasingly implicated in the pathogenesis of inflammatory lung injury. Glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4) and the ratio of reduced to oxidized glutathione (GSH/GSSG) are key regulators in this process. However, the clinical significance of ferroptotic factors in severe community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) is still lacking.

Gene mutations in the Janus kinase/signal transducer and activator of transcription signaling (JAK/STAT) pathway can promote the occurrence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and autoimmune diseases. We report on two patients with T2DM (a mother and her adult son) with concomitant Hashimoto's thyroiditis and autoimmune diseases. The son was diagnosed with systemic sclerosis and antiphospholipid syndrome, while the mother was diagnosed with primary biliary cholangitis.

Introduction: Inflammatory markers such as the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) are associated with poorer prognosis of gastric cancer (GC) patients and may guide treatment decisions. This meta-analysis aims to evaluate the impact of NLR and PLR on the prognosis of GC patients undergoing neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC).

Methods: Cochrane, Embase, PubMed and Web of science were searched for studies up to November 30, 2024.

Prognostic assessment of sarcopenia in patients with fractures: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BMC Musculoskelet Disord

June 2025

Center of Excellence for Pancreatitis, Institute of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, West China Hospital, Sichuan University, 37 Guoxue Alley, Chengdu, 610041, Sichuan Province, China.

Background: Currently, the prevalence of sarcopenia is on the rise. Sarcopenia may significantly affect the prognosis of fracture patients by increasing postoperative complications, diminishing quality of life, and raising mortality rates. This studyaims to investigate the impact of sarcopenia on the prognosis of fractures.

It is unclear how marital status moderates the association between multidomain leisure activities and the progression of cognitive decline in community-dwelling older adults. Data from the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey with up to 10 years of follow-up were used. The study included participants aged ≥65 years without cognitive impairment at baseline.

Autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) comprise a broad category of neurodevelopmental disorders that include repetitive behaviors and difficulties in social interactions. Notably, individuals with ASDs exhibit significant impairments in motor skills even prior to the manifestation of other core symptoms. These skills are crucial for daily activities, such as communication, imitation, and exploration, and hold significant importance for individuals with ASDs.

July 2025

Department of Integrated TCM & Western Medicine, Tianyou Hospital Affiliated to Wuhan University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, 430000, China; Wuhan University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, 430000, China. Electronic address:

Short-chain chlorinated paraffins (SCCPs), a class of widely used industrial chemicals, have raised significant health concerns due to their persistence, bioaccumulation, and potential neurotoxicity. This study investigated the neurotoxic effects of SCCPs on the hippocampus and their impact on brain glycerophospholipid metabolism in mice. Behavioral tests revealed that 50 mg/kg SCCPs exposure significantly reduced spontaneous activity and impaired learning and memory.

Presently, the majority of investigations into the effects blood lipids on prostate cancer (PCa) primarily involve Western populations. Our study endeavors to investigate the impact of blood lipid levels on the risk of PCa among the Chinese population and to elucidate their potential association with the pathological characteristics of PCa. This study drew data from a dataset for early warning of PCa from the China National Population Health Science Data Center, encompassing 2624 patients who had undergone prostate biopsy.

Objective: Ferroptosis, a regulated cell death pathway driven by lipid peroxidation and iron overload, is implicated in neuronal injury caused by hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R). Caffeine, a widely consumed psychoactive compound, has shown neuroprotective effects in various central nervous system disorders, but its role in regulating ferroptosis remains unclear. This study investigates the neuroprotective effects of caffeine on ferroptosis and its regulation of ACSL4, a key ferroptosis-related protein.

Existing geographic atrophy (GA) segmentation tasks can only use 3D data, ignoring the fact that a large number of B-scan images contain lesion information. In this work, we proposed a multistage dual-branch image projection network (DIPN) to learn feature information in B-scan images to assist GA segmentation. Considering that segmenting 3D data slices using a 2D network architecture ignores the neighboring information between volume data slices, we introduced ConvLSTM.
