Lichens exemplify a unique symbiotic relationship between fungi and algae or cyanobacteria, where fungi (mycobionts) provide structural support, while algae or cyanobacteria (photobionts) provide nutrients. Recent discoveries in the order Chaetothyriales have led to the description of several lichenicolous species, underscoring an intricate relationship of some black yeast-like fungi with lichens. The present study aims to investigate public metagenomic data of lichens available in the SRA database, covering a total of 2888 samples.

Objective: The impact of desert-originated dust has been underestimated in fine particulate matters (PM)-related disease burden studies. This study aimed to assess the association of long-term dust PM exposure and all-cause mortality among older adults in China.
Methods: A cohort study using electronic health records (2010-2020) across Weinan, a city in northwest China, which experiences persistently high PM levels and frequent sand and dust storms, included 1,553,724 adults aged ≥45 years.

Skin aging serves as a critical indicator of systemic health decline. Despite Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptor Gamma (PPARγ) being a key therapeutic target, mechanistic understanding remains incomplete and potent, safe activators are lacking, hindering clinical progress. This study proposes the "Barrier-Skin-Systemic Aging Axis," demonstrating that epidermal barrier disruption accelerates aging via PPARγ suppression.

The diagnosis of brain tumors is pivotal for effective treatment, with MRI serving as a commonly used non-invasive diagnostic modality in clinical practices. Fundamentally, brain tumor diagnosis is a type of pattern recognition task that requires the integration of information from multi-modal MRI images. However, existing fusion strategies are hindered by the scarcity of multi-modal imaging samples.

Small extracellular vesicles (sEVs) critically orchestrate inter-tissue and inter-organ communications and may play essential roles in heart-tumor interaction. However, whether cancer-secreted sEVs affect the progression of doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity (DOXIC) via orchestrating the tumor cell-cardiomyocyte crosstalk has not yet been explored. Herein, we reveal that Doxorubicin (DOX)-treated breast cancer cells secrete sEVs (D-BCC-sEVs) that exacerbate DOX-induced ferroptosis of human iPSC-derived cardiomyocytes (hiCMs).

The epidermal immune microenvironment is a multifaceted system in which the interplay between the skin microbiome and antimicrobial peptides plays a pivotal role in sustaining skin homeostasis and preventing dysbiosis. Disruption of these interactions can lead to inflammatory skin conditions such as atopic dermatitis. This review aims to explore the complex mechanisms by which antimicrobial peptides and the skin microbiome communicate within the epidermal immune microenvironment, emphasizing causal dynamics and the dual role of antimicrobial peptides.

Deep learning (DL) has significantly improved the diagnostic accuracy and efficiency of cytopathologists. However, current DL-assisted reading modes have yet to be fully evaluated, and there is limited evidence regarding cytopathologists' preferences and experiences. This study employs a randomized, controlled, four-way crossover design to assess the effectiveness of four different reading modes in cervical cytopathology readings.

LP-98 is a lipopeptide HIV fusion inhibitor showing strong treatment and pre-exposure prophylaxis efficacies in non-human primates. In this study, we further characterized its pharmacokinetics, long-lasting antiviral activity, and post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) efficacy using 62 macaques. In cynomolgus macaques, LP-98 achieved high concentrations (C) with a half-life (T) of ∼31 h, and sustained an effective therapeutic concentration for two weeks post-injection.

Multiple biological barriers severely restrict the delivery efficiency of nanoparticles (NPs) to tumors. To overcome biological barriers, traditional NPs usually require a complex design, which increases the difficulty of clinical translation. Therefore, there appears to be a dilemma between the complex biological barriers and clinical requirement for a simple molecular structure of NPs.

Restenosis following endovascular intervention in lower extremity arterial disease contributes to significant morbidity and mortality. This study investigates the role of formylpeptide receptor 2 (FPR2) in neointimal hyperplasia and evaluates the therapeutic potential of the selective FPR2 agonist BMS-986235 in mitigating restenosis. FPR2 expression was significantly reduced in the popliteal and anterior tibial arteries of male amputees with restenosis compared to healthy controls.

Systematic characterization of the molecular states of cells in livestock tissues is essential for understanding the cellular and genetic mechanisms underlying economically and ecologically important physiological traits. Here, as part of the Farm Animal Genotype-Tissue Expression (FarmGTEx) project, we describe a comprehensive reference map including 1,793,854 cells from 59 bovine tissues in calves and adult cattle, spanning both sexes, which reveals intra-tissue and inter-tissue cellular heterogeneity in gene expression, transcription factor regulation and intercellular communication. Integrative analysis with genetic variants that underpin bovine monogenic and complex traits uncovers cell types of relevance, such as spermatocytes, responsible for sperm motility and excitatory neurons for milk fat yield.

Aldehyde dehydrogenase 2 (ALDH2) is a critical enzyme involved in the detoxification of acetaldehyde. Although numerous studies have demonstrated the significance of ALDH2 in alcohol-associated liver disease (ALD), its role in alcohol-induced activation of liver progenitor cells (LPCs) has not been thoroughly investigated. Proteomic analysis of serum samples from patients with either normal ALDH2 genotype or ALDH2 mutation following alcohol consumption revealed that ALDH2 deficiency may suppress LPC proliferation.

Background: In menopausal women, decreased estrogen levels lead to genital tract mucosal atrophy and reduced mucosal immune function. Low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (LSIL) associated with persistent or newly acquired high-risk HPV infection may progress silently to high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (HSIL) and eventually cervical cancer.
Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of photodynamic therapy combined with estrogen in the treatment of menopausal women with LSIL and high-risk HPV infection.
