Photocatalytic hydrogen production through water splitting represents a promising strategy to store solar energy as chemical energy. Current photocatalysts primarily focus on traditional semiconductor materials, such as metal oxides, sulfides, nitrides, g-CN, etc. However, these materials often suffer from large bandgap and fast charge recombination, which limit sunlight utilization and result in unsatisfactory photon conversion efficiency.

Previous studies have demonstrated that performance under selective attention and divided attention can be enhanced or impaired, depending on whether the stimuli from different modalities are the same or different. However, it remains unclear whether the modulation of selective attention and divided attention on cross-modal congruence involves shared or distinct neural mechanisms. To clarify this, the present study adopted an audiovisual Stroop task (measuring selective attention) and an audiovisual Matching task (measuring divided attention), using the same physical stimuli, along with event-related potential (ERP) and time-frequency measures.

The emergence and spread of antibiotic resistance in bacterial pathogens are now becoming a serious threat to public health globally. To study the occurrence and transfer characteristics of plasmid-mediated mobile antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) in manure, antibiotic-resistant plasmids were captured from layers, broilers, and pig farms in Beijing, Hebei, and Ningxia provinces. The conjugative antibiotic-resistant plasmids (CARP) were captured by a filter membrane conjugation experiment, and the transfer frequency of plasmids from feces to recipient bacteria was tested.

Unlabelled: Different proportions of cellulose nanofibers (CNFs)/cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) and low methoxyl (LM) pectin were used to prepare hydrogels. By analyzing the apparent morphology, gel strength, rheological characteristics, microstructure, and interaction between cellulose and LM pectin, the characteristics of hydrogels created by the combination of different forms of nanocellulose and LM pectin were compared. At the same concentration, the strength of hydrogel formed by the combination of CNCs and LM pectin was higher than hydrogel formed by the combination of CNFs and LM pectin, which was consistent with the gel structure.

The primary limitation to the practicability of electroactive microorganisms in bioelectrochemical systems lies in their low extracellular electron transfer (EET) efficiency. The proton motive force (PMF) represents the electrochemical gradient of protons generated by electron transport and proton pumping across the cytoplasmic membrane, serving as a crucial energy transfer pathway in bacterial membranes. Nevertheless, the impact of PMF on the EET efficiency remains ambiguous, while the microbial rhodopsin offers a simple and efficient avenue for non-photosynthetic cells to harness PMF.

More than 90% of spermatozoa of boars in pork producing countries is stored in liquid at 17 °C; however, the quality of these spermatozoa is affected by bacterial breeding and oxidative damage. This study analyzed sperm quality and sperm capacitation after storage to study the effects of the effects of ZnO nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) supplementation on seminal plasma (SP)-free sperm preservation. We investigated the effects of adding 20, 50, 100 and 200 μg/mL of ZnO NPs to a seminal free boar sperm diluent over a 7-day period at 17 °C to assess the changes in non-capacitated/capacitated sperm quality parameters, antioxidant capacity, ATP content and extent of protein tyrosine phosphorylation.

Radiative cooling is an emerging zero-energy-consumption technology for human body cooling in outdoor scenarios during hot seasons. However, existing radiative cooling textiles are limited by low intrinsic cooling power, high hydrophobicity, and heat-insulating properties, which seriously impede a satisfying cooling effect, perspiration-wicking, and heat dissipation, thus limiting human thermal comfort in practical situations. Here, we developed a radiative cooling meta-fabric that was integrated with high perspiration-wicking and thermal conduction capacity.

Background: As an important global agricultural cash crop, melon has a long history of cultivation and a wide planting area. The physiological metabolism of melon after harvest is relatively strong; if not properly stored, melon is easily invaded by external pathogens during transportation, resulting in economic losses and greatly limiting its production, development and market supply. Therefore, the storage and freshness of melon are the main challenges in realizing the annual supply of melon, so postharvest storage has received increasing amounts of attention from researchers.

Phycocyanin is a natural blue pigment that tends to denature and lose its color in acidic solutions. In response to this problem, the complexes of phycocyanin (PC) with okra polysaccharides (OP) were prepared by ultrasonic processing at different pH conditions, and the molecular interactions of the complexes were characterized. The results showed that there were significant differences in the color, functional groups, and surface morphology of the complexes formed at different pH conditions.

Internet access for adolescents is becoming more prevalent around the world. Although video game playing has been verified to be negatively related to adolescent academic achievement, the mechanisms underlying this relationship are also unknown. Using a nationally representative sample of adolescents from the China Education Panel Survey (2014-2015), this study aims to explore the parallel mediation roles of self-educational expectation and learning attitude in the link between video game playing and academic achievement, and whether the direct and indirect effects are moderated by parent-child relationship.

All-solid-state lithium-ion batteries (ASSLIBs) are attracting significant attention due to their high energy density, conductivity and safety. However, they are expected to generate substantial waste in the near future, leading to resource depletion and environmental pollution. Therefore, it is crucial to achieve green, mild and safe recovery of ASSLIBs.

Although many studies have assessed the effectiveness of waste sorting policies, few studies have explored residents' waste sorting behavior from the perspective of information intervention as a nudge. This study conducts an online survey to empirically examine the effects of information intervention on residents' willingness to sort domestic waste in urban China. We design and implement three types of randomized information interventions (positive, negative, and neutral) to 720 residents in the city of Beijing.

The ability of many insects to adhere vertically or even upside down to smooth substrates is closely related to the morphology and distribution of the adhesive structures on their legs. During locomotion, the legs are in direct contact with different substrates, and it is hypothesized that the adhesive structures have been evolved as an adaption to smooth substrates in specific environments. To investigate whether there is a relationship between the presence of adhesive structures and the combined effects of different environments and mating behavior, we compared five species of tiger beetles belonging to two tribes living in arboreal and non-arboreal environments, respectively.

Background: Venom glands play a key role in the predation and defense strategies of almost all spider groups. However, the spider family Uloboridae lacks venom glands and has evolved an adaptive strategy: they excessively wrap their prey directly with spider silk instead of paralyzing it first with toxins. This shift in survival strategy is very fascinating, but the genetic underpinnings behind it are poorly understood.

The role of noncovalent bonding, including multiatomic interactions (van der Waals-like forces) and ionic characteristics, in the intermetallic clathrate A Si (A = Na, K, Rb; 0 < ≤ 24) is qualitatively discussed. Using the local density approximation (LDA) to density functional theory (DFT), we investigated the effect of different guest filling and pressure parameters on the structural and electronic properties of these materials. In the context of the rigid-band model, we first noted that the competition between van der Waals-like multiatomic interactions and ionicity due to the extent of charge transfer responsible for guest-framework complexes accounts for the nonmonotonic structural response upon guest filling in A Si (0 ≤ ≤ 8), which is in good agreement with previous experimental findings as well as theoretical predictions.
