Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a major cause of morbidity and mortality from lower respiratory infections (LRIs) worldwide. This study analyzes trends in age-standardized death rates (ASDRs) and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) due to RSV-induced LRIs from 1990 to 2019, using data from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2021 (GBD 2021). The findings show a gradual decline in deaths, ASDR, and DALYs throughout this period.

National Clinical Research Center for Cardiovascular Diseases, NHC Key Laboratory of Clinical Research for Cardiovascular Medications, State Key Laboratory of Cardiovascular Disease, Fuwai Hospital, National Center for Cardiovascular Diseases, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Med

Background: The association between lifestyles and carotid plaque showed heterogeneity in results across studies, which may be limited by sample size or population characteristics. In addition, there is a lack of evidence on how long healthy lifestyles delay plaque development and on the metabolic factors which are likely to mediate these associations. This study aims to investigate the impact of multiple healthy lifestyles on the risk and time of carotid plaque incidence in the early stages of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (CVD), and to identify the metabolic factors mediating this association.

Gut microbiota and blood metabolites play crucial roles in the progression and outcomes of COVID-19, but the causal relationships and mechanisms remain unclear. Our aim is to use two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) to explore the causal relationships between gut microbiota, COVID-19 susceptibility, and potential mediating blood metabolites. We utilized summary statistics from the largest genome-wide association studies (GWAS) to date on gut microbiota (n = 18,340), blood metabolites (n = 115,078), and COVID-19 susceptibility (cases n = 60,176 and controls n = 1310,725 from the COVID-19 Host Genetics Initiative meta-analysis).

Background: Neoadjuvant chemotherapy has become a common and effective treatment modality for triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). The primary goal is to reduce the size of the primary tumor, enabling breast-conserving surgery, axillary preservation, and a transition to operability, thereby providing patients with more therapeutic options. Although neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) has demonstrated favorable outcomes in clinical practice, predicting its efficacy and prognostic value in TNBC remains a key challenge in current clinical research.

March 2025

Department of Laboratory Medicine, Key Laboratory of Clinical Laboratory Technology for Precision Medicine, School of Medical Technology and Engineering, Fujian Medical University, Fuzhou 350005, China.

Lower respiratory tract infections (LRITs), including community-acquired pneumonia (CAP), are the fifth leading cause of death worldwide over the last ten years, posing a serious threat to global healthcare. Conventional laboratory assays for detecting pathogens are hindered by complicated procedures, a long turnaround time and a lack of multiplex detection capabilities. In this study, a flap-endonuclease 1 (FEN1)-assisted loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) method was designed, and an assay based on this method was developed to identify three leading pathogens for CAP, namely, , and .
