Alcoholic liver disease (ALD) is a globally prevalent form of liver disease for which there is no effective treatment. Recent studies have found that a significant decrease in butyrate was closely associated with ALD development. Given the low compliance and delivery efficiency associated with oral-route butyrate administration, a highly effective butyrate-yielding dietary supplement, butyrylated high-amylose maize starch (HAMSB), is a good alternative approach.

Hawthorn ( Bunge) has been highlighted as an excellent source of a variety of bioactive polymers, which has attracted increasing research interest. Pectin, as a kind of soluble dietary fiber in hawthorn, is mainly extracted by hot water extraction and ultrasonic or enzymatic hydrolysis and is then extensively used in food, pharmaceutical, and nutraceutical industries. Numerous studies have shown that hawthorn pectin and its derived oligosaccharides exhibit a wide range of biological activities, such as antioxidant activity, hypolipidemic and cholesterol-reducing effects, antimicrobial activity, and intestinal function modulatory activity.

Hardness is one of the basic parameters of water, and a high-level hardness of drinking water may be harmful to human health. Thus, it is very important to monitor drinking water hardness. In this work, a portable lateral flow distance-based paper sensor for the semi-quantitative detection of drinking water hardness is demonstrated.

Aqueous-phase reforming of methanol represents a promising avenue for hydrogen (H) production. However, developing highly efficient and low-cost nonprecious catalysts remains challenging. Here, we report the synthesis of Cu-based catalysts with Cu, CuO, and CuN nanoparticles anchored on the nitrogen-doped carbon, forming Cu/Cu/Cu-N active sites.

Background: Environmental endocrine disruptors (EEDs) are a class of new pollutants that are diffusely used in the medical industry and animal husbandry. In view of toxicity concerns, elevated levels of EEDs in the environment and food, which cause potential harm to human beings and ecosystems, must be monitored. Determination of EEDs contaminants to ensure environment and food safety has became a major concern worldwide, it is also a challenging task because of their trace level and probable matrices interference.

The development of valid chemical enhancement strategy with charge transfer (CT) for semiconductors has great scientific significance in surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) technology. Herein, a phosphorus doped crystalline/amorphous polymeric carbon nitride (PCPCN) is fabricated by a facile molten salt method, and is employed as a SERS substrate for the first time. Upon the synergies of phosphatization and molten salt etching, PCPCN owns a cascaded internal electric field (IEF) due to the formation of p-n homojunction (interface-IEF) and crystalline/amorphous homojunction (bulk-IEF).

Graphene oxide (GO) and copper nanoparticles (Cu NPs) were incorporated to modulate and enhance the fluorescence properties of pegylated graphite phase carbon nitride (g-CN-PEG). Combined with the specific recognition capability of a molecular imprinted polymer (MIP), a highly sensitive and selective fluorescent molecular imprinted probe for dopamine detection was developed. The fluorescent g-CN-PEG was synthesized from melamine and modified with GO and Cu NPs to obtain GO/g-CN-PEG@Cu NPs.

N,N'-Substituted p-phenylenediamine quinones (PPD-Qs) are the emerging toxicant, which transform from the rubber tire antioxidant N,N'-substituted p-phenylenediamines (PPDs). Because of their potential toxic and widespread occurrence in the environment, PPD-Qs have received great attention. However, efficiently extracting PPD-Qs from complex samples is still a challenge.

Metal-organic frameworks have garnered attention as highly efficient pre-electrocatalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Current structure-activity relationships primarily rely on the assumption that the complete dissolution of organic ligands occurs during electrocatalysis. Herein, modeling based on NiFe Prussian blue analogs (NiFe-PBAs) show that cyanide ligands leach from the matrix and subsequently oxidize to corresponding inorganic ions (ammonium and carbonate) that re-adsorb onto the surface of NiFe OOH during the OER process.

In vivo solid-phase microextraction (in vivo SPME) is an emerging fascinating sample pretreatment technique, but its quantitative correction method is different from the traditional correction methods, which has become a bottleneck limiting its development. At present, the sampling-rate calibration and equilibrium calibration are mainly used, however, their characteristics and applicability are not clear. In this study, the sampling-rate calibration and equilibrium calibration were evaluated in the case of the determination of neonicotinoids in bananas by in vivo SPME.

The constantly diverse demand scenarios for rapid on-site analysis have put forward high requirements for developing low-cost and user-friendly visual detection methods. Therefore, developing a visual detection method with simple operation and intuitive results has important practical value in the field of analysis and detection, but it is also challenging. In this work, we propose a microsyringe-assisted visual volume detection method based on phase separation, and apply it to analyze the milk-clotting activity of chymosin.
