Polyphenols and edible polysaccharides have emerged as promising crosslinking agents to enhance structural stabilities of protein emulsions and their templated oleogels. To enhance stabilities of gelatin (G) emulsion-based oleogels, three edible polysaccharides and two typical polyphenols were employed to oleogel preparation. Fucoidan (FUC) and flaxseed gum (FG) formed more compact network than sodium alginate, improving three-phase contact of gelatin.

Women with pre-existing sleep disturbance frequently experience postoperative sleep disturbance after surgery. This randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-group trial was conducted to investigate the efficacy of intraoperative adjunctive esketamine administration in the reduction of postoperative sleep disturbance following surgical abortion for women with pre-existing sleep disturbance. 204 women who had sleep disturbance and were scheduled for elective surgical abortion were randomized in a one-to-one allocation ratio to receive either a single intravenous injection of 0.

Under the dual pressures of rapid global climate change and the transition to a green economy, the policy effects of Climate-Resilient City Pilot (CRCP), launched in 2017, urgently require a systematic quantitative assessment. Based on this, this study utilizes panel data from 282 prefecture-level cities in China from 2010 to 2022 to construct a difference-in-differences (DID) model, analyzing the impact effects and pathways of the CRCP on green economic efficiency (GEE) from a "local-neighborhood" dual-dimensional perspective. The research findings reveal that: (1) CRCP significantly enhances the GEE of pilot cities and passes multiple robustness tests.

Sluggish desolvation of the hydrated zinc ions and disordered zinc deposition are two main challenges for hindering the practical application of Zn anodes. Here, camphor sulfonic acid (CSA) is employed as a sulfonic acid group-containing organic molecule additive in the ZnSO electrolyte for simultaneous regulation of the zinc ions solvation and deposition chemistry. The CSA reshapes the zinc ions solvation structure and reconstructs the hydrogen bonding network among free water molecules, thus effectively suppressing the hydrogen evolution reaction and maintaining stable pH microenvironment.

Background: This study aimed to systematically evaluate the clinical efficacy of acupuncture and external traditional Chinese medicine therapy, each combined with massage, for treating knee osteoarthritis.

Methods: The meta-analysis followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines and was registered with PROSPERO (CRD42024600977). A comprehensive search was conducted in databases including PubMed and Chinese Knowledge Infrastructure until September 2024.

Altered metabolites are pivotal in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) development. This study employed untargeted metabolomic analysis to identify novel biomarkers for early HCC detection and explore their functions. Plasma samples were collected from 138 HCC patients, 69 patients with benign hepatic lesions, and 35 healthy donors.

Background: HIV/AIDS, hepatitis B, and tuberculosis (TB) are chronic infectious diseases prioritized by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and China's "Healthy China Initiative (2019-2030)," posing persistent challenges to global and Chinese public health systems. This study analyzed mortality trends and regional/urban-rural disparities of these three diseases among Chinese elderly individuals aged 60 years and older from 2004 to 2021 to identify priority areas for targeted prevention strategies.

Methods: Data were sourced from the "China Cause-of-Death Surveillance Dataset (2004-2021)" published by the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

Background: Insulin resistance during pregnancy, while physiologically adaptive to enhance fetal nutrient supply, becomes pathological when excessive, contributing to low birth weight (LBW). The triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index, a biomarker of insulin resistance, predicts gestational complications, but its pathways to birth weight disparities remain unclear. This study investigates whether and to what extent first-trimester TyG index influences birth weight through preterm birth and gestational complications.

Background: The profiles of hepatitis B virus (HBV) integration related to hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) loss remain largely unknown.

Aims: We aimed to delineate the patterns of HBV integration in virally suppressed chronic hepatitis B (CHB) patients and their association with HBsAg loss following antiviral therapy.

Methods: Forty-five patients with paired liver biopsies were randomly selected from the Anchor study for high-throughput viral integration detection.

This study explored how online and offline social participation affects depression symptoms in older adults through social networks, basic psychological needs, and cognitive reactivity. Conducted as a cross-sectional survey among 700 urban and rural older adults in Ningde City, Fujian Province, data on social participation, social networks, psychological needs, cognitive reactivity, and depression symptoms were analyzed using partial least squares structural equation modeling and multi-group structural equation modeling. Results indicated that offline social participation directly reduced depression symptoms, whereas online participation did not.

Background: Thyroid nodules (TN) are distinct lesions within the thyroid gland that can cause compression symptoms, disrupt thyroid function, and impact aesthetics and daily life. Nei-Xiao-Pian (NXP), a traditional Chinese patent medicine developed by Suzhou Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, has been effectively used in clinical treatment for TN. Due to the complex nature of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), limited clinical research exists on NXP, and its precise mechanisms of action remain largely unknown.

Introduction: Bear bile powder (BBP) has been traditionally used in Chinese medicine for calming the liver, pacifying the mind, and relieving convulsions, as recorded in Ben Jing Feng Yuan and Yu Qiu Yao Jie. Although the antidepressant effects of BBP have been previously reported, the underlying neurological mechanisms have yet to be fully elucidated. This study aimed to investigate the antidepressant effects of BBP on corticosterone (CORT)-induced depression-like behaviors in female mice and to explore the involvement of the BDNF/TrkB/CREB signaling pathway.

Nucleation regulation in the perovskite film-forming process has been widely studied to optimize crystal quality and enable high-efficiency perovskite solar cells (PVSCs) by an anti-solvent-free method. However, the vertical nucleation process is often difficult to control in anti-solvent-free preparation, due to the heterogeneous metal ion distribution and subsequent non-uniform nucleation. Inspired by natural biomineralization mechanisms, this is pioneered that the introduction of a functional biopolymer carboxymethyl chitosan (CMC) at the buried interface of the perovskite layer, which would promote homogeneous vertical nucleation.

Background: While lysosomal cathepsins are crucial in cellular homeostasis and may contribute to diabetic chronic complications, their precise causal relationships remain insufficiently characterized.

Methods: This study employed comprehensive multidimensional Mendelian randomization (MR) analyses to investigate potential causal associations between nine cathepsins (B, E, F, G, H, L2, O, S, and Z) and six diabetic chronic complications encompassing both microvascular (nephropathy, retinopathy, proliferative retinopathy, maculopathy, neuropathy) and macrovascular manifestations (peripheral angiopathy). The analytical framework incorporated generalized summary-data-based MR (GSMR), univariable MR, multivariable MR, summary-data-based MR (SMR), and cis-expression quantitative trait locus (cis-eQTL) MR approaches, utilizing data derived from publicly available genome-wide association studies (GWAS).

Toward commercialization of organic solar cells (OSCs), photoactive materials that enable high efficiency yet possess low cost should be developed. Fully non-fused ring electron acceptors (FNEAs) that extend the conjugated skeleton with carbon-carbon (C-C) single bonds solely have lower synthetic costs than their fused-ring counterparts. However, the power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) of FNEAs are lagging due to low acceptor crystallinity and difficulty in the formation of fibrillary bi-continuous interpenetrating network morphology.
