Article Abstract

Objective: To analyze the association between indoor light at night (LAN) exposure with myopia in children and adolescents.

Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted in 2023 involving 872 students aged 6-14 years in Beijing, China. Portable photometers continuously measured indoor LAN exposure over four nights. Log-binomial regression explored the association between LAN with myopia. Iso-temporal Substitution Model (ISM) investigated how reallocating exposure durations at different LAN levels affects myopia.

Results: Compared to the overall ≤1 Lx LAN group, the risk of myopia increased during the 1h post-sleep and 2h post-sleep in the (1,10] lx and >30 lx group and during the 4h post-sleep in the >30 lx group. In contrast, myopia risk decreased during the 2h pre-wake in the (10,30] lx group and during the 1h pre-wake in the (10,30] lx and >30 lx group. Replacing bright light with dim light 2h post-sleep, and dim light with bright light 2h pre-wake, may help reduce myopia risk. The associations were more pronounced in girls and the group with ideal healthy lifestyles.

Conclusion: LAN cycle has a dual association with myopia. Promoting healthy LAN environment, with dim light (≤1 lx) post-sleep and soft light (10-30 lx) pre-wake, may contribute to myopia prevention.

Background: Cardiac issues following radiotherapy are increasingly prevalent among patients with thoracic cancer and coronary disease. However, the mechanisms underlying radiotherapy-induced plaque instability and changes in plaque characteristics on imaging remain unclear. This study used single-cell RNA sequencing to identify key features of vulnerable plaques following radiotherapy.

Background: Nutritional supplements and environments have been linked with food allergy (FA), but little research has explored their interactions on children's FA.

Objectives: To explore the associations between early-life nutritional supplements, household environmental factors (HEFs), and outdoor air pollutant (OAP) exposures, and their interactions on children's FAs.

Methods: We collected 20,730 surveyed questionnaires from five Chinese cities, covering data on individual characteristics, health outcomes, and HEFs.

Bisphenol A (BPA) and di-n-butyl phthalate (DBP) are ubiquitous endocrine disruptors implicated in bone metabolism disorders, but their precise mechanisms remain unclear. Here, we demonstrated that BPA and DBP bidirectionally disrupt bone homeostasis by targeting CD36 in bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs). Mechanistically, both chemicals upregulate CD36 expression, which sequesters ATG9a at the Golgi apparatus, inhibits autophagosome maturation, and thereby impairs osteogenic differentiation of BMSCs, as evidenced by reduced ALP and RUNX-2 levels.

Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), a promising class of metallic nanomaterials with strong antibacterial properties and biomedical potential, are increasingly being used in a variety of consumer products. The widespread application of AgNPs has raised concerns about their toxicological effects, particularly their accumulation in the liver and the associated oxidative stress. However, the precise molecular mechanisms driving these effects remain unclear.

Tetrabromophthalate bis(2-ethylhexyl) ester (TBPH) is a common brominated flame retardant, which exhibits environmental persistence, the potential for bioaccumulation, and concerning toxicological effects. But until now, there is limited data on TBPH-induced nephrotoxicity. Therefore, this study assessed the impact of TBPH exposure on renal cells and tissues through in vitro and in vivo models.
