To overcome the limitations of poly(lactic acid) (PLA), such as poor toughness, high cost, and slow degradation, this study prepares PLA/PBAT/DBI blends via melt blending by introducing poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PBAT) and a bio-based additive, dibutyl itaconate (DBI). DBI, a multifunctional small molecule exhibiting both plasticizing and compatibilizing capabilities, has found broad applicability across diverse fields. However, its compatibilization mechanism in polymer blend systems remains insufficiently studied.

Article Synopsis
  • Aging leads to a decline in stem cell function, but replenishing these cells to combat aging is not well understood.
  • Researchers developed genetically modified human mesenchymal progenitor cells, called SRCs, to enhance resilience against aging.
  • In a 44-week trial on aged macaques, SRCs reduced aging indicators, improved brain and cognitive function, and showed no adverse effects, suggesting potential for regenerative therapies in age-related health issues.

Walnuts, which are rich in unsaturated fatty acids (UFAs), are highly susceptible to oxidation during storage, leading to quality degradation. Consequently, antioxidant technologies for the oxidative stability of walnuts have garnered significant attention. The addition of antioxidants remains the most cost-effective and efficient method currently available, with synergistic effects enhancing the efficacy of mixed antioxidant combinations compared to single antioxidants.

Ageing-induced skeletal muscle deterioration contributes to sarcopenia and frailty, adversely impacting the quality of life in the elderly. However, the molecular mechanisms behind primate skeletal muscle ageing remain largely unexplored. Here, we show that SIRT5 expression is reduced in aged primate skeletal muscles from both genders.

METTL1, a well-established RNA methyltransferase for the N(7)-methylguanosine (m7G) methylation modification, is responsible for human tumorigenesis. Here, we aimed to examine the activity and molecular determinants of METTL1 in colorectal cancer (CRC) development. METTL1 and ribosomal RNA processing 9 (RRP9) mRNA analysis was performed by quantitative PCR.

Most research on the formation of advanced glycation end-products (AGEs) and N-nitrosamines (NAs) in meat products has focused on high-temperature processing. The effects of low-temperature processing on AGEs and NAs formation have rarely been studied. This study investigated the effects of salt addition (0 %, 2 %, and 4 %) and lean-to-fat ratio (10:0, 8:2, and 6:4) on the formation of AGEs and NAs in Salami.

Ascorbic acid (AA), despite being an essential vitamin, is also a potential precursor to form advanced glycation end products (AGEs) in heat-processed foods. The dual action of AA (act as an inhibitor and a precursor concurrently) in AGEs formation in glucose (Glu)-lysine (Lys) model system has been found in our previous study. However, the mechanism underlying the dual role of AA has not been elucidated.

A notable number of locally advanced cervical carcinoma (LACC) patients experience local or distant disease relapse following radiotherapy. The contribution of tumor microenvironment (TME) to tumor recurrence at different sites remains unclear. Here, single-nucleus RNA sequencing data from 28 pre- and on-treatment LACC samples from patients with different disease relapse patterns is analyzed.

Reproductive aging, spanning an age-related functional decline in the female and male reproductive systems, compromises fertility and leads to a range of health complications. In this Perspective, we first introduce a comprehensive framework for biomarkers applicable in clinical settings and discuss the existing repertoire of biomarkers used in practice. These encompass functional, imaging-based and biofluid-based biomarkers, all of which reflect the physiological characteristics of reproductive aging and help to determine the reproductive biological age.

In the current development of the plastics industry, the use of biodegradable and recycled plastics not only effectively reduces the volume of landfills and incineration but also significantly decreases environmental damage. However, the extensive application of biodegradable polylactic acid (PLA) is limited by its poor toughness and thermal properties. The study introduced recycled linear low-density polyethylene (R-LLDPE) and ethylene-octene copolymer (POE) to modify PLA, primarily based on their excellent toughness and thermal resistance.

Bipolar hip endoprosthesis replacement is a commonly employed procedure in orthopaedic oncology that requires the resection and reconstruction of the proximal femur. With improving survival rates, issues of implant durability and acetabular wear have become increasingly important. The decision to replace the acetabulum in bipolar hip endoprosthesis replacement procedures remains a topic of debate.

The PLA-g-(GMA-co-St) graft copolymer (PGS) was prepared using melt-free radical grafting technology, PGS and ESO were simultaneously employed as compatibilizers for the poly (lactic acid)/poly (butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PLA/PBAT) blends. The effects of the type and amount of compatibilizers on the properties of the blends were studied. The results reveal that the epoxy groups in PGS and ESO can interact with the terminal groups of PLA and PBAT.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates how dibutyl itaconate (DBI) enhances the compatibility of poly (lactic acid) (PLA) and polypropylene carbonate (PPC) by creating a copolymer structure, resulting in improved physical properties.
  • - At an optimal DBI amount of 10 wt%, the blending resulted in significant improvements in flexibility and mechanical strength, with the elongation at break and impact strength markedly higher than the neat PLA/PPC blends.
  • - DBI addition also enhanced the degradation properties of PLA/PPC by increasing hydrolysis of ester bonds, leading to a much higher mass loss rate and reducing haze without sacrificing light transmittance.

  • * Metformin was found to significantly slow aging markers, resulting in about a 6-year regression in brain aging and improved cognitive function.
  • * The research suggests that metformin's benefits on brain health are partly due to the activation of Nrf2, which has anti-oxidative properties, indicating potential for human aging interventions.

Despite China's building into a leading sporting nation and sport-tourism integration high-quality development strategy in the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, existing tourism studies seldom concern sport-tourism integration, especially their spatial hot spots and evolutional trend based on geospatial big data. This study aims to probe into the spatiality and the underlying mechanism of sport tourism through internet attention data in 2015, 2018, and 2021 by social network analysis, with a specific focus on aero-sports tourism. Shaanxi Province is chosen as the study site given its advantages of rich aero-sports tourism resources and various aero-sports modes (e.

Purpose: Adrenal venous sampling (AVS) is recommended for subtyping primary aldosteronism (PA). However, in cases of PA, concurrent subclinical Cushing's syndrome (SCS) has the potential to confound AVS results. Pentixafor, a CXC chemokine receptor type 4-specific ligand, has been reported as a promising marker to evaluate functional nature of adrenal adenomas.
