Background: The HALP index, a composite biomarker integrating hemoglobin, albumin, lymphocyte, and platelet parameters, reflects both immunological competence and nutritional status. We therefore conducted this retrospective analysis to assess the correlation between HALP score and the risk symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (sICH) risk in patients receiving mechanical thrombectomy (MT).

Methods: This retrospective study included patients with acute ischemic stroke due to anterior circulation large vessel occlusion who underwent MT between October 2019 and July 2024.

Introduction: Acute large vessel occlusion patients can be categorized into fast and slow progressors based on infarction growth rate (IGR) before endovascular treatment (EVT). However, the characteristics of fast progressors remain uncertain, and a comprehensive review investigating the adverse effects of fast IGR is needed.

Methods: A systematic search of studies published before March 24, 2025, was conducted using PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, and Cochrane Library following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses statement.

Vicarious decision-making is a fundamental to social interactions. Growing evidence suggests that the neural mechanisms underlying such decisions may vary according to interpersonal relationship types. However, the specific modulatory effects of romantic love on vicarious risk assessment and outcome evaluation during dynamic decision-making remain unclear.

Background: Previous studies on resting-state functional connectivity (FC) in internet gaming disorder (IGD) have typically assumed that FC is static during the entire scan, neglecting the dynamic reorganization of brain networks. However, understanding the dynamic changes in functional networks is crucial for a comprehensive understanding of IGD, a complex and evolving disorder.

Methods: Resting-state fMRI data were collected from 269 participants (132 IGD subjects, male/female: 72/60, and 137 recreational game users (RGUs), male/female: 85/52).

Dissolved oxygen (DO) is necessary for fish survival and growth. This study investigated the hypoxia tolerance, hematological indexes, hepatic antioxidant capacity, and liver and gill morphological alternation of fat greenling during hypoxia stress. Changes in hematological parameters (cortisol, glucose, lactic acid, hemoglobin [Hb], hematocrit [Hct], and white blood cell [WBC], and red blood cell [RBC] numbers), hepatic antioxidant enzymes (superoxide dismutase [SOD], glutathione peroxidase [GSH-Px], catalase [CAT]), aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT) activities, and malondialdehyde (MDA) contents, and the histology of the liver and gill were evaluated under hypoxia stress and reoxygenation.

Purpose: This study investigates the relationship between attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) symptoms and problematic short-video use (PSVU) in adults, particularly focusing on the affective and cognitive processes that mediate this relationship. The research aims to clarify how different ADHD symptom domains, specifically inattention (IA) and hyperactivity-impulsivity (HI), contribute to PSVU.

Patients And Methods: The study recruited 563 Chinese college students (age: mean±SD = 19.

Background: Hypoxia triggers stress, leading to significant alterations in gene expression patterns, which in turn affect fish's growth and development. Real-time quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) is a pivotal technique for assessing changes in gene expression. However, its accuracy is highly contingent upon the stable expression of reference genes.

BackgroundOur previous studies have established that the broad-spectrum anti-epileptic drug lamotrigine (LTG) confers protection against cognitive impairments, synapse and nerve cell damage, as well as characteristic neuropathologies in APP/PS1 mice, a mouse model of Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, the precise molecular mechanisms responsible for this protective effect induced by LTG remain largely elusive.ObjectiveIn this study, we aimed to investigate the mechanisms underlying the beneficial effects of LTG against AD.

Structural asymmetry is a subtle but pervasive property of the human brain, which has been found altered in various psychiatric and neurocognitive disorders. However, little is known regarding potential alterations of structural asymmetry underlying internet gaming disorder (IGD). Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the structural features of gray matter asymmetry in IGD.

Background And Purpose: The baseline glucose-to-potassium ratio (GPR) is associated with poor outcomes in patients with acute brain injury and intracranial hemorrhage. However, the impact of serum GPR on clinical outcomes after endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) is unclear. This study aimed to evaluate the association between the GPR at admission and functional outcomes at 90 days after EVT.

Oxidative stress induced endothelial dysfunction plays a particularly important role in promoting the development of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). Salvianolic acid A (SalA) is a water-soluble component of traditional Chinese medicine Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge with anti-oxidant potency. This study aims to explore the regulatory effect of SalA on oxidative injury using an in vitro model of HO-induced injury in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs).

  • Caveolin-1 (Cav-1) levels in the blood may indicate the risk of symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (sICH) in patients with large-vessel occlusive stroke undergoing endovascular thrombectomy (EVT).
  • In a study of 325 patients, those who experienced sICH had lower levels of Cav-1 compared to those who did not.
  • The research suggests that higher Cav-1 levels are linked to a reduced risk of sICH, highlighting its potential role in improving patient assessment and risk prediction for sICH after EVT.

Waste activated sludge serves an important reservoir for antibiotics within wastewater treatment plants, and understanding the occurrence and evolution of antibiotics during sludge treatment is crucial to mitigate the potential risks of subsequent resource utilization of sludge. This study explores the degradation and transformation mechanisms of three typical antibiotics, oxytetracycline (OTC), ofloxacin (OFL), and azithromycin (AZI) during sludge hydrothermal treatment (HT), and investigates the influence of biopolymers transformation on the fate of these antibiotics. The findings indicate that HT induces a shift of antibiotics from solid-phase adsorption to liquid-phase dissolution in the initial temperature range of 25-90 °C, underscoring this phase's critical role in preparing antibiotics for subsequent degradation phases.

Optoelectronic synapses are currently drawing significant attention as fundamental building blocks of neuromorphic computing to mimic brain functions. In this study, a two-terminal synaptic device based on a doped PdSe flake is proposed to imitate the key neural functions in an optical pathway. Due to the wavelength-dependent desorption of oxygen clusters near the intrinsic selenide vacancy defects, the doped PdSe photodetector achieves a high negative photoresponsivity of -7.

Article Synopsis
  • The Chinese Visceral Adiposity Index (CVAI) is an important measure of fatty tissue dysfunction, and this study looks at how it relates to outcomes in Chinese patients who had ischemic strokes and underwent endovascular thrombectomy (EVT).
  • Researchers found that among 453 patients, higher CVAI levels were linked to a greater chance of poor outcomes three months after treatment, with over half of the participants showing unfavorable results.
  • The study concluded that CVAI could serve as a useful predictor for recovery in stroke patients, indicating that increased visceral fat correlates with worse outcomes post-EVT.
